“A great place to unwind after Safari.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2012

Stayed in Breezes on a half board basis as part of our second Honeymoon in Feb '12 after spending time on safari in Kenya. Everything booked through Trailfinders in Dublin.

The Good
- Amazing location on a long white sandy beach, coconut palm trees and turquoise blue waters.
- Weather was hot for Feb (36-38c) but Indian ocean breezes and great cocktails (Shark Bite or Mojito) help to cool you down!
- Staff were very professional and friendly (lots of them!)
- Nice small resort - think max capacity is 130-140 so never crowded – sun loungers always available on the beach!
- Nice Persian/North African decor.
- Actual beach is public but hotel property on the beach front is raised up 1 metre above beach level and has constant security so no hassle from hawkers etc.
- Very European (mainly northern) with a nice mix between couples and families (not a “honeymoon resort”).
- Got an amazing suite (on top floor with large balcony) right on the beach front. Best rooms are Coconut 11-12 (ours was 12) and Clove 5-6 which over look the beach/sea, all others are back from the beach.
- Great activities available - with a water sports centre, dive centre, thai style spa (wife loved it!) and gym plus loads of day trips around Zanzibar (do go to Stonetown and the spice tour if you do nothing else).
- Food was generally excellent with each dinner night having a different theme (Indian, Swahili, BBQ etc). Breakfast had a huge selection and 3 places to eat at lunch all very inexpensive.
- We were on half board but did not need to pay cash at all just sign for drinks etc and settle up at the end of our stay. Think we racked up €250 drinks and lunch bill over entire week so very good value.
- Nice honeymoon surprises in our package…free wine, free lunch, free spa, free sailing lesson, made a bed under the stars one of the nights and brought us canapés and sundowners etc.
- Amazing snorkelling/scuba.

The Bad
- No TV or phones in the room. There is a communal TV and VERY slow internet room.
- Tides/Lagoon mean you will not always be able to swim in the sea when you want.
- On day of arrival we did not get our room until 6pm due to some mix up with the booking which after a long flight was frustrating.
- On day of departure you have to check out by 10.30am but hotel will provide you with a day room if requested.
- Electricity does go out intermittently
- Had to kill 2-3 wasps in the bathroom each morning!
- Wife did have one bout of food poisining from some BBQ chicken at the resort.
- Not much in the way of nightlife but then we were not after that on this trip.

The Ugly
- Not related to the resort but to Zanzibar generally so please be aware:
- Zanzibar is 95% Muslim so gals need to cover up when going out for day trips plus no public displays of affection which can be a bit of a mood killer on a honeymoon!
- Entry visa is $50 for Europeans and $100 for US. For some reason Irish must pay $100. Think the airport authorities think Ireland is the 51st state!!! They couldn’t explain it to me.
- Wife’s IPod was robbed from her checked luggage from Nairobi to Zanzibar so keep all electronics in your carry on bags. That said we felt very safe in both Stonetown and the resort.
- Airport is small and a little crazy…everyone from baggage handlers to customs officers want a “tip”!
- Driving is dangerous as cars/vans have no bother over taking into the oncoming lane at short notice so leave it to the locals to drive!

Room Tip: Best suite rooms are Coconut 11-12 (ours was 12) and Clove 5-6 which over look the beach/sea, all ot...

We had just finished a wonderful but full on Safari and spent the last week of our trip relaxing at the beautiful Breezes Beach Club, a little piece of paradise. The staff made you feel so welcome , nothing was too much trouble. The resort looks like something out of Arabian nights. The accomodation is first class. We did a daytrip to Stone Town and Prison Island which was great but we were happy to just relax.

Breezes was beautiful. Everything from the food to the beach to the spa was exactly as we wished for our week-long stay post-safari. The service was great and they couldn't have been kinder regarding our honeymoon status - including free champagne, room upgrade and discount vouchers. We were sad to leave at the end of our stay.

We have just returned from Breezes in Zanzibar. Before I write anymore - people should know that the hotel is excellent, the management team are great, the staff could not be more helpful and the facilities and accommodation are excellent.

However...you should know that you are trapped in the hotel, there is no way you can get money out so all the trips and excursions haves to be put on your room. All the trips are money making exercises for the hotel and are extortionate, also the hotel prices for water sports are extortionate. Nothing is included. Kayaks for an hour - extra, reef shoes for a day - extra, sailing a hobie cat for one hour $30. Internet $15 per day. There seems to be a monopoly on these trips. I would recommend coming out the hotel onto the beach take a left hand turn and walk up the beach past the second volleyball net where you will find a local shop and a lovely man called Mr Azziz and Mr Mohammed. We took tours with them that were half the price of the hotel tours.

Zanzibar is a beautiful island that has much to offer tourists - but these hotels don't allow you to get out. Be warned

I loved this resort! The facilities and staff were great! Took a lot of time to help me out and get to know me. Kept me entertained as I was travelling alone, while on a break from working in Nairobi.

Went into the local village, on a tour organised by the Resort. Was so interesting and informative! Meet some fantastic people. Also went on the Spice and Stone Town tours, was very impressed with the service and the tour guides.

Would stay again.

I think by the sidebar everyone has pretty much covered the place. It is a getaway with all you could want for a relaxing time on the beach and in the hotel.

Rooms were great, food was excellent and service was perfect. I could only stay for a few days, as I prefer the city and the people. But I did meet other nice people. The hotel staff were exceptionally friendly and happy to chat in the laid back atmosphere.

What made the event special was the wedding I was attending. After many years of visiting Zanzibar and my friend's desire to get married in Zanzibar. When she was going to get married she suggested they do it in Zanzibar. so the hotel staff put together a nice package with a wedding on the beach! Very quiet sun down wedding at a little spot built by the workers at the hotel. Thanks to them for putting on a great event with lots of food and special places for the couple and guests to enjoy. It was a success.

Recommended for some downtime and relaxing time. Internet was available as well as spa service. Pricey, so not a budget hotel. Fits the you get what you pay for rule. Equipment is available on at the beach house, and is reasonably priced, if you want to get out into the ocean. There is a little store with some nice things from Zanzibar. I know I am missing things, but what can you do when you are sitting back relaxing by the pool? Not remember the details, just the experience.

We had been to Breezes 14 months previously so they must have done something right to get us back there again!!
If you want nightlife, discos, bingo and raucous behaviour then go elsewhere. On the other hand, if you want beautiful grounds, helpful friendly staff, great food, brilliant service, an excellent beach and wonderful sea then Breezes is the place for you.

If you want to pick holes, it's a pity you can't swim at low tide but apart from that it's pretty much perfect.
