I experienced great hospitality from the staff at the Tanzanite hotel long before i arrived with the organisation of their taxi service, having communicated with the manager through e-mail several times from home. I searched ther internet endlessly before i made my booking for a hotel that was, comfortable, in a good location, safe, and value for money. I was sure i had found the best place for me and i wasn't dissapointed.
I was picked up prompt upon my arrival into Zanzibar and was taken to my hotel by a very friendly driver and greeted by welcoming, smiling staff and a refreshing welcome drink which was greatly appreciated in the blistering heat! After a quick check in, a porter carried my bag to my room (a basic garden view) which was spacious, clean and very comfortble. I made my way to the sea front of the hotel which i can only discribe as beautiful and peaceful with hammocks, comfortable sunbeds and a stunning views over the indian ocean. The gardens were well maintained each day by staff who would always greet you as they passed and the very sweet young girls in the restauraunt were only too pleased to make me feel welcome and at home.
I enjoyed a full breakfast each morning after sunrise, in the spacious dining area that had perfect views of the sea and the Dhows sailing by. And the lovely Monica would organise cooked eggs...I experienced great hospitality from the staff at the Tanzanite hotel long before i arrived with the organisation of their taxi service, having communicated with the manager through e-mail several times from home. I enjoyed a full breakfast each morning after sunrise, in the spacious dining area that had perfect views of the sea and the Dhows sailing by. And the lovely Monica would organise cooked eggs for me from the kitchen :-) After the tide went out each morning it was possible to take a walk down the beach into the town of Nungwi which was about ten minutes away, where you could find the bigger hotels and main stretches of beach. However in my opinion the best spot of beach was right outside the Tanzinite as there were no crowds and it was much more peaceful. To the right of the hotel (about 100metres) was the best spot for swimming or snorkelling and you can watch the locals fishing or shell collecting in the shallow waters.
The food at the Tanzinaite was yummy, and the fresh fish was delicious. At twilight they would light a fire at the beach front, where you could relax or dine. On a few occasions i chose to go into the town in the evenings with friends to explore different resauraunts and bars and the staff were only more than happy to organise a taxi back for us in the late hours. On one evening i had a shaperone kindly walk me safely to a resaurant down the road, as to walk anywhere after dark, whether it be along the beach or on the road is definately not a good idea even if you are in a group. I felt perfectly safe walking along the beach alone during the day, and i was told i was safe to walk along the road outside the hotel in daylight, however i never felt comfortable in doing so unless i was with friends. After sundown, it was definately a must to be driven into town and back due to safety issues and the staff at the Tanzinite were always vigil about their residents safety.
I felt perfecly safe in Nungwi village in the evening and made many friends at the local beach bar and ate some great food at the Langi Langi on a few occasions which i would definately recommend for dining! The chef there is very friendly and more than willing to make any dish to your taste even if it isn't on the menu.
I stayed at the Tanzinite for ten nights and still wasn't ready to leave, it provided perfect R&R after a tough trip up mount KIlimanjaro, where the friendly staff were more than willing to accomodate my stay, really, there is nothing they won't do for you! The hotel is clean and comfortable with views and sounds of the indian ocean from your room, in a great location i would definately recommend the Tanzanite to anybody. The only thing i could fault was the price of the trips and massage facilities at the hotel as they were quite pricey compared to other hotels however it is possible to barter to an agreed price. The laundry and internet service is very reasonable however!
Thankyou to all the staff at the Tanzinite for making my stay in Zanzibar one i will never forget! :-))More
