Beautiful location, good restaurant and very reasonable prices, although the cost will be going up quite a bit starting in Jan/11 (from $50/night for a garden view room to around $80/night - the other rooms increasing accordingly as well). Great front desk staff, can arrange transport and tours. Free wireless internet - was on and off during our stay but that seemed like it might have been unusual.

Water is only high enough to swim at certain times of the day. Likewise, walking on the beach is only possible the opposite times.

Gorgeous little thach-roofed huts most of which face directly onto the ocean- its like something out of a postcard. On arrival we were greeted with a glass of tropical juice served in a coconut, complete with hibiscus flower garnish! The rooms are very clean, serviced daily, and the bed was very comfortable. The resort has a restaraunt which serves a mostly western menu for breakfast lunch and dinner and the food is reasonably good-our seafood was overcooked, but otherwise quite tasty. The restaraunt however is how they make their money- with a captive consumer market. There are not many other food options in Nungwi, and stonetown is a good hour and a half away by taxi.

The service is pretty good too. We had an issue paying our bill by Visa, and the receptionist blamed us (he was convinced that our card was faulty), but it turned out that it was actually his machine- we recieved no apology! Besides this one incident however, we were very happy with the service.

If you are looking for a fun and/or adventurous holiday, this place is not for you. The resort is small and the other travellers staying here were predominantly introverted couples, most spending the day lazing on the beach-beds reading books. Again, the isolation of this end of the island is such that there aren't many other choices for things to do in and/or around Nungwi.

If on the other-hand, reading books under the beatiful african sun on an island in the midlle of the Indian Ocean is your thing, I highly recommend Tanzanite.

Not sure what to expect on the drive to the hotel but once we arrived it was amazing. Well kept grounds and incredibly friendly staff. Given a welcome drink on arrival. Breakfast was complimentary every morning and included just about anything you wanted as well as fresh local fruit and juices. The staff make your stay relaxing and pleasant. I would return here tomorrow.

Tanzanite is the perfect beach resort. isolated from mainstream Nungwi but close enough to go and enjoy the nightlife. Wonderful service. Everything is beautiful and clean.

Cannot recommend this enough and we will be going back!

We spent 6 nights at the Tanzanite, and loved it. Quite, secluded, clean and friendly. We were given welcome drinks on arrival - fresh passion fruit juice, and shown to our spotless room with flowers on the bed. We stayed in a garden-facing room, it was just perfect. Complimentary breakfast with eggs, toasts, fresh fruit, juice and coffee. The water is beautifully clean, and the walks down the beach were wonderful. The food was delicious - good local seafood, and vegetarian options too! The staff was incredibly friendly and easy going.

We used the dive shop at the Tanzanite to go on a few dives, two at Mnembe Atoll. The divers and boaters were great, friendly, funny and knowledgeable! We also used the tours offered and took the Spice Tour (highly recommended) and the Stonetown tour, both of which were great.

Overall, Tanzanite was a wonderful place to spent a week, and we had a GREAT time!
