“A gem of a place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

Stayed here three nights with a friend to relax after hiking Mount Kilimanjaro. We chose Langi Langi based on location and value. After an exhaustive search, I found lots of high-end and budget options but few in the middle. I also wanted a locally owned place vs. an international resort. Langi Langi fit the bill. Right on the beach, plenty of luxury, no hefty price tag. After walking the beach every day we definitely got the feeling most people were paying much MUCH more than us for the exact same strip of beach.

We had warm service throughout our stay. The owner arranged for airport pick-up and transfer and we were greeted with welcome drinks and a tour upon our arrival. He even arranged for us to get a bite when we got in even though we'd just missed the kitchen closing time.

Based on other reviews we splurged on the ocean view suite and were not disappointed. The room was spacious and open with a lovely veranda for enjoying a morning coffee or evening drink. The wood furnishings integrated well into the environment and whole space felt natural and relaxing. I even loved the smell of the natural cleaner they used on the floors each day--I still remember that smell.

Last but not least, the food was fantastic. The (included) breakfast options were varied and vast: lots of fresh fruit, breads, pastries, eggs, vegetables and delicious local coffee. We enjoyed fresh seafood every night for dinner and worked our way through the tasty wine list (lots of South African varietals). I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: The ocean view suites are worth it!

Moved here from another hotel in matemwe that was the same price but no where near as nice. This hotel is in a perfect location, right on the beautiful beach, and many other hotels and restaurants within walking distance. The pool is lovely, rooms clean, staff super friendly. Owners really take the time to talk to you and make sure you are happy with everything. Restaurant had some of the best food in around so we ate their most nights...will definitely stay here next time we come :-)

The beach here is beautiful but I think this place is overpriced for the quality. The food is average, grounds are messy in certain areas and staff seem unhappy (it just didn't have a great vibe). I would probably pay a bit more and go for one of the more quality places in Matemwe.

Langi Langi is beautiful. The balconies on the sea view rooms overlook the Indian ocean and the candle lit restaurant has delicious food for a reasonable price right on the water. Their lounge chairs are delicious.

The customer service however is very poor. Very unhelpful and judgmental, most people refer you to another manager if you have a question.

Also disappointing that the hotel does not have liquor. You have to go to another hotel for a cocktail.

Wifi is very weak.

Room Tip: Choose the seaview room. It's very worth it.

We stayed 4 nights at what is called sea-view which in reality is restaurant-view. The room itself was good with a/c and ceiling fan. Nungwi beach is fantastic and the hotel is located right over the beach with stunning views from the restaurant. Be aware of extremely aggressive beach boys who persistently do not allow you to relax on the beach trying to sell and scam you and even threaten if you don't pay attention. Hotel staff seem not to care about this serious issue and are somewhat incompetent and do not help make you feel safe and relaxed. Food was mediocre at best compared to local restaurants down the beach.

We had a last minute booking at LangiLangi and we were more than pleased to do so. The place is great and also value for money, especially if you have the chance to book a room which is overlooking the ocean. They have a nice restaurant over the sea were they serve breakfast, and the rooms are clean and spacious. The location is the best, you can walk along the beach, swim, rent a dhow and cruise in the sunset. The owner and the staff are very friendly and helpful. would definately visit again!

After a lot of research on the various hotels and guesthouses in the Nungwi area my partner and i chose to stay at Langi Langi Bungalows for 4 nights on a very decent rate, thanks Sajid who i corresponded with through email.

Nungwi and Kendwa rocks are definitely the 2 best areas to stay in Zanzibar in terms of beautiful beaches, relaxation, various activities and small local villages within walking distance to explore.

I am fortunate enough to have stayed at some outstanding resorts and hotels around the world with my job as a flight attendant and have also stayed at many guesthouses and backpackers during extensive trips backpacking before this job. Here is a run down of our experience at Langi.

Our first impression upon arriving at Langi Langi was wow!! Beautiful tropical gardens and setting with the restaurant overlooking the beach. Our check in experience was quick, stress free and the staff on duty that night were extremely hospitable and polite. We were upgraded to a Marhaba suite which was exceptional! Beautiful 4 poster bed, large modern room and amenities with a beautiful balcony looking out over the ocean. We had no problems with mosquitos or anything else during our stay for that matter. Food in the restaurant was a bit overpriced although fresh and breakfast was to a high standard. We walked along the beach in both directions and didn't find any other places to this standard except for a couple of exclusive 5 star resorts.

Our stay was perfect and we were leaving on a happy note until it came to checking out and dealing with an extremely rude and unprofessional staff member. This issue put a dampener on our holiday and an otherwise perfect stay, the difference between 4 and 5 stars on this review.

First of all i explained by email that i wished to pay BEFORE arrival by card although the link that was sent to me for payment did not work. We arrived tired at the hotel after a long international flight to Tanzania so decided we would pay on checkout instead of arrival and yes we 'were' told on arrival that if we wished to pay by card it should be done the night before as the EFTPOS machine was unreliable and failed to work during the day. We were unaware that the nearest ATM on the island was situated 1.5 hours away in stone town therefore decided morning of checkout that using card would be the only option for us as we were spending the next 2 days at Kendwa rocks. My partner said to the man at reception that he would like to try and pay by card and if it fails we would leave our bags there until that night then come back to pay. While saying this my partner had his wallet open with his card out, the gentleman at reception rudely pointed at my partners wallet and said "give me this money! u have cash!" My partner calmly explained that cash was to last until we had the chance to use an ATM and he would like to use his card to which the gentleman replied "Give me cash! This buys food and pays my bills card does not!!" He continued to refuse to try my partners card arguing that he wanted him to pay cash. During this time a group of ladies were waiting to check in and were disgusted by the treatment we were shown by this man. In the end he said he would try the card but only if we paid 50% cash, turns out the card worked first time round! We then realised that we had been overcharged and the disagreement continued until the man finally gave in and handed my partner the money that he was most likely going to pocket.

I understand this is Africa and not a 5 star establishment however it is up to the guest how we wish to pay not what suits the hotel staff best. Looking into someones wallet and demanding to be paid cash not card was extremely rude and unacceptable! This mans attitude and behaviour was the only thing that lets this place down and the only difference between 4 and 5 stars. We would stay again but next time we would pay on arrival regardless how tired, calculate the bill carefully to ensure we r not over charged and i would not be dealing with this man again!
To Sajid and the rest of the staff at Langi Langi thank you for an otherwise perfect and memorable trip to Zanzibar!
