“Best Getaway Ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Amaan's photos do not do this resort justice. It is absolutely beautiful! The staff are so friendly, the food is fabulous. Our room was sea view, and stunning. We spent most nights in the sports bar drinking cocktails and living the island holiday dream.

The managers are more than willing to help you plan any excursion.

The rooms are clean and neat. The furniture in the room is exactly what one would expect on an island holiday, and the air conditioner in the room was an added bonus.

Thank you for a wonderful stay

Amaan beach bungalows was the cheapest hotel we could find in Nungwi! We were very impressed with the resort!
The pool was lovely, and the resort is right on the beach. there were yoga classes and diving tours from the resort, and a restaurant there too. You could also book onto loads of different boat trips - sunset trips, booze cruises, snorkelling trips...
You can walk through either end of the resort to the next resort along the beach. All the resorts have their own restaurants, so it's worth a short walk to see which place you fancy. There is also a small craft market just off the next resort.
Our room was clean, and there were good mosquito nets, and a safe, although our safe got stuck shut twice! (that might have been our fault though, and the staff were very cheerful about helping us!)
You are able to get cash out at reception, however the signal to the card machine is very temperamental, and this resulted in my debit card being charged twice for a transaction that we only got the cash from once - this was refunded without me having to do anything, but only a month after the transaction date, so we were $152 short for the rest of our trip! Just beware!

Room Tip: We chose the cheapest rooms there, which were priced lower because they weren't "near the p...

Thank you very much for your good review about us. we highly value you and consider all reviews as part and percell of our daily work.

Amaan Beach Bungalows is one of the Ocean group of Hotels property. The Ocean Group of Hotels owns The Zanzibar Ocean view beach Resort and conference centre just a stone throw from the historical Zanzibar Stone Town and Pemba Misali Sunset Beach in Pemba Island. We do not only offer rooms of different prices but also offer other opportunities to our guests who would easily want to transfer to the sister hotels in the areas mentioned.
The low net work on our card machine at times is now history. we found a permanent solution whereby if the card machine does not work during payment transactions, then the client can pay online. You only need to give in all your details and within a blink of an eye, all is done.

we have opened up a sheesha cafe recently and introduced more items in our happy hours that start from 17hrs to 19hrs daily. Beach dinners can be organized upon booking when tide is low.

We had a very bad experience in hotel LangiLangi next to hotel Amaan, where we were offered very small rooms equipped with 3 queensize beds allowing only a few square meters for access and absolutely NO space for bagage.
Furthermore there was an ugly smell in the rooms like bad drain in the sewer!

Consequently we had to seek alternate accomodation – and fortunately the nearby Hotel Amaan had two 3 beds rooms next to the pool – and the children went to bed around midnight.
We had of course to pay normal fee for these new rooms adding extra costs to our budget.

In this hotel we greated welcome by very friendly and efficient staff and we enjoyed our stay very much. Rooms are spacious even for 3 beds and the fantastic pool area and restaurants facing the see will stay in our memory for very long time!

Stayed here for three nights with a few friends and we couldn't fault the place. We stayed in Garden Rooms and some of our other friends stayed in Deluxe Rooms.

From the second we arrived the staff were more than helpful, telling us all about the resort's facilities and making us feel so welcome. This excellent service continued right through our stay. They really couldn't do enough for you and you were always greeted with a smile.

The rooms were lovely, with flowers presented on the beds and were very clean. Mosquito nets on all the beds. Showers were a dream- piping hot water and amazing pressure. Towels are provided and you can also avail of beach towels for a small deposit. We didn't eat there too often but the food we saw other guests getting looked great! They have happy hour from 5-7pm which we enjoyed immensely! The breakfasts were included and were amazing- buffet style with cereal, hot foods (potato, eggs any style, pancakes, croissants, sauages etc) and fruit. We were a bit concerned having read other reviews about the breakfast but honestly we loved it and couldn't fault it.

They have a gorgeous pool and are also right on the beach so you get the best of both worlds. They also have a small shop and diving centre which we took advantage of. The dive was our first and was absolutely incredible. I'd definitely recommend checking it out if you're there!

All in all I'd definitely recommend Amaan Bungalows and hope I can return one day!

Lets get the negative bits over and done with first - the rooms are very basic. Don't get me wrong - they're scrupulously clean and the beds are comfortable, but the furniture is 'rustic' (I'm being charitable) and the bathrooms are very tired. Our shower was little more than dribble due to lack of water pressure. BUT .... you don't go to Zanzibar to spend your holiday in a room! So ..... the good bits. The location is fantastic. Our sea view room had a west-facing balcony that overhang the glorious white-sand beach, so you fell asleep to the gentle lapping of the Indian Ocean waves following a beautiful sunset. The hotel has a couple of restaurants, both of which do a decent selection of food, with the fresh fish particularly good. It's not Michelin-starred food, but it was tasty, good value and plenty of it. The pool was pretty small, but why use a pool when the Indian Ocean is 10m away?! There's an all-day bar (with sports TV if you really can't do without football!) and an on-site diving school (Divine Diving - really, really good BTW). A couple of reviews mentioned poor staff, but we found them all most helpful and friendly. So, don't expect The Ritz or Burj al Arab, but it is a good value hotel in a beautiful part of the world.

Was scared reading the reviews below but just gave it a chance and was given a wonderful surprise. From the time of pick-up (a smiling driver) to check-in (3 mins check in as the rooms were prior booked). Wanted to check the room before payment and was allowed to, the sea view was awesome and waves literally knocking at the balcony. Two bars and a restaurant with sea view provides ample comfort with changing their serving style daily from banquet to a la carte. Snake dance in the evening was an add-up and really gave the excitement required. Restaurant attracts many a people from nearby resorts who weren't able to get a room here. A blanket request at 1.30 in the night was promptly attended to, request for little extra check out time was gladly permitted, taxi to drop back was ready at the requested time. It was absolutely fun with diving facilities, small shop inside the premises, spa, pool, greenery and sea. We would highly recommend it if you are a leisure traveller and want to be in a place which provides full relaxation and your privacy is well respected. And yes the beach, one of the best and safest in Zanzibar.

Room Tip: Prefer a sea-view room. Visit all the resorts nearby as all are inter connected. Have a late night w...

I recently returned from 3 nights here and have mixed feelings...

- CONS -

The Room: we booked the deluxe rooms and while they were very close to the pool, the bar and the restaurant they were not inviting nor welcoming. Rooms were very basic, stark white paint, no decorations, basic bathroom and bad lighting. They are not worth the money. I also viwed the sea rooms which look directly onto the ocean again was not impressed, there is just no character to them.

Service: The service at the bar and restaurant was not friendly or helpful. It was an effort for the staff to bring a menu over and even more effort to get the bill. There are no smiles here.

- PROS -

Location: Absolute beachfront on the most wonderful beach which also showcases wonderful sunsets. This hotel also connects with the Langi Langi Beach Bungalows and you can use their pool which was low key and lovely.

Happy Hour: 5,000 shilling cocktails from 5-7pm. Again with the service though, slow and unfriendly but when made by the cocktail bar manager, they were yummy.

Pool: The pool was huge and had lots of day beds around to relax and chill out.

Day Spa: Located by the poolside and I received the best massage of my life there. It was wonderful.
