“Kind reception, nice stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013

The room is very humble. There's no AC, but the fan works really fine. It was amazing sleeping with the sounds of the tidal hitting the stones. It was the best beach that we've visited in Zanzibar, such a peaceful place for those who want to rest all day long. The hotel is located around 3km until the best point to appreciate the most beautiful sunset! You can have a nice walk until there (if the tide is not high).

Staying at Sazani was great. Although a bit disappointed at first given a few run down parts, the staff quickly made us feel welcome. You won't get the luxury hotel feel, but you will get a great beach free for beach boys and other people trying to sell you things; staff that makes you a part of their "family"; and plenty of hammocks for relaxation while overlooking the picturesque azure water. David in particular was great and even took us to a local bar the last night. Most of the food was pretty good given the price (especially the curries). Good atmosphere when several guests share a larger dinner table.

3 couples stayed for 5 nights together. Rooms have an amazing view and the beach is lovely. Rooms were always impeccably cleaned and the beds were pretty good for the most part (some too soft, some too hard, some too lumpy... but all in all ok) Staff went out of their way to make everything wonderful - Becca and Ali and Saleh were excellent. Mr Pondi in the office can whip you up something nice on his sewing machine in a day or two! David goes out of his way to help - and loves to chat with guests. The resident dog and cat are a treat too :)
Breakfast was pretty good - fruit, juice and pancakes or eggs. The size and quality of breakfast was not always consistent - especially as other guests began to join us. We personally found lunch a bit expensive and short on choices BUT that being said they did serve quality dishes the two times we did eat there. We also chose not to eat suppers there - 3 courses at 8 pm were too late and too much food for us. We found the price prohibitive for us as well - we chose to walk into the village for suppers.
The place was nice - we would stay again. It is not the most luxurious but we appreciated the more rustic feel. We slept ok - the waves can be quite loud and for a few of our nights, another couple had brought a very yappy dog (what the heck??) But for the most part, it was quite and peaceful. I would recommend this to others easily.

We had a great time at sazani, the staf is verry friendly and helpfull. We feel at home, the guys from the bar and the kitchen are friendly and serve good food. Lunch is 10$, diner (3 courses) was 20$. It was lovely, so enjoy at this beautyfull spot. The small tips that we had for this hotel is the water for shower, the presior feld down almost everytime, so ask and they help you. The wifi is verry slow, and the garden isn't that nice. If those points are done its the best hotel that you can wish. We had a verry nicetime. Good luck for them.

Spent 2 nights at sazani and I must say it's good value for money......David (the manager) along with beccar, saleh, aisha.......are fantastic people, always there to plan your day with you and make your stay enjoyable. Beccar took myself and another guest on a free tour of nungwi village, the fish market and the boat factory while David help arrange a snorkelling trip to the mnemba island. I had an amazing stay at sazani and will definitely go back Asante sana sazani

My wife and I spent more than two weeks at sazani during August to relax after backpacking through east Africa. We could not have made a better choice. Sazani is perfect if you are looking for a five star location in a warm family b&b atmosphere and for fair prices. For us the best part about sazani was its incredible staff which practicaly became our family for two weeks. David, musini, Beka, mouenzi, Ali,Mr Pondi, saleh, jua Kali & muezi - you guys are the best!
We highly recommend talking to the staff about going on a village tour and getting a feeling of what life is like outside the tourist bubble.
Walking from the hotel to nungwi beach through the village will only take 15 minutes and is a great way to open your eyes to the fascinating local zanzibari culture surrounding the hotel.

I spent 5 nights here at Sazani Beach hotel, in the north of Zanzibar.
The staff were attentive , helpful and very friendly. The hotel itself was well appointed in that there was everything I needed for a relaxing few days on the beach. The room was comfortable and spacious and the sound of the waves on the beach just yards away was amazing to wake upto.
Good food, good service, great massage and I highly recommend it to those who are not seeking a busy, sanitised , air conditioned , main stream chain hotel. No swimming pool or spa , but its just seconds from your room onto a beautiful white sandy beach !
