“Very natural and basic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

I is lovely to go to a conservation pond where it is all very natural and no mod cons , you pay $5 to go in and they take you to feed the turtles and snd tell yo which species they have in Zanzibar, don't expect coffee and shops this is all about the conservation of the turtles that are captured along with a comentary of how 600 hundred dolphins got washed up on their shores in approx 2006 along with a skeleton of whale

“Interesting, but conservation?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 15, 2012

A pond that follows the tides, with a number of green turtles that are fed seeweed by the visitors. Nice to see them that close, but I see no reason for keeping perfectly healthy turtles in captivity -except of course attracting tourists. It's a Nungwi community initiative, and these people can use some support, so your 5 dollars may be well spent after all.

“Hmmm not sure about this one”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

As any person really enjoyed looking and feeding turtles but I am not sure if "conservation" is the real aim of this establishment. Its very hard to judge these days as everyone brands themselves eco friendly etc. but to my naked eye conditions that these turtles are kept I would not describe as happy ! I would not visit again personally.

Really interesting visit, the staff were very informative & keen to share the history & intentions of the sanctuary, we also got to feed the turtles.

“Worth a look, but nothing special”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2012

Sure, they've got a load of turtles in there, but the water doesn't look the cleanest and I wasn't entirely convinced that they do actually release the turtles back in to the wild. If it's a genuine conservation and rescue centre then full credit to them and it deserves a higher rating. If it's a zoo exhibit, then not happy being conned.
