“Wonderful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

This was not the first time we went To Kololo, we love to go there because every time is a different game experience and the quality of the lodge is very good, the staff very friendly and for us it's the perfect place to unwind! The hiking and Biking trails we realy love where you just hike or bike between giraffe kudu wildebeest and more. The Welgevonden big 5 game drives are always an adventure many times we saw lion, elephant, rhino, cheetah and lots of other animals. There very extensive anti poaching measures make sure you will see rhino!

We stayed there over a long weekend. Very good place with friendly staff. The reserve has game like giraffes and other buck that visits the living areas at night.
The rooms are clean and neat.
The restaurant serves good food has a good view over the reserve.

Room Tip: Choose room away from restaurant

We've stayed here twice, once in 2012 and once in 2013 and both times it was amazing. The chalets are excellently maintained and equipped and the reserve is large enough to adventure around on foot during the days. Game drives to the neighboring game reserve are an absolute must as well - our guide was fantastic both times. Will be back!

What a wonderful experience, after being left stranded at the gate of Matingwe, a neighbouring game reserve where we had a booking for the week-end, we were received with warmth, friendliness and care by Elize and the team at sunset feeling very scared and angry. They not only made a plan to give us emergency accommodation but gave us a discount to make up for the poor show of their neighbours. We had the most fantastic time, with excellent service, food, beautiful accommodation, close encounters with antelope and most of all experiencing the personal touch added by all staff. I would recommend this game reserve to anyone. What a fantastic and beautiful place to go to and just relax into the calm and caring care hands of people who know what customer care is. I would highly recommend Kololo.

My husband is cabin crew and took myself and our 6 year old son on a trip to Johannesburg with him. We only had 2 nights and spent the first one at Kololo. We were tired when we arrived after an 11 hour flight and a three hour drive, the last part of which is down a bumpy unmade road however when we arrived we had the most wonderful welcome from Kellyn. We were worried that we had arrived too early to check in but she showed us straight to our accommodation which was a delightful house with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a lounge and an outside kitchen. At the front was a huge verandah with table and chairs, a bbq and a stunning view over to Welgevonden. We settled in, had a delicious lunch and chilled until our game drive at 3.30. The drive was lovely and we were looked after by Jasper who was very friendly and knowledgeable and poured us a lovely glass of wine when we stopped by the river for a break.
Our son had a great time and Jasper was very sweet with him, telling him about the animals and treating him like a mini ranger!
That evening we had dinner in the restaurant. Our food was delicious and my son loved his fish fingers. Kellyn continued to give us lots of attention, sat and chatted with us between courses and even took my son off for a while to play on the drums.
The following morning we were up early for a game drive in Welgevonden. It was chilly but we wrapped ourselves in rugs and had a fabulous morning. We saw loads of Rhino and a cheetah with 2 cubs. When we got back we had a superb breakfast including cold meats and cheese, cereal and yoghurt, lovely fresh fruit and croissants. We were then offered a hot breakfast also!
We were very sad to leave and wish we could have stayed longer.
Kololo is a beautiful lodge in a stunning area and we would have loved our time there anyway but the people who work there make it even better. Kellyn, in particular made our stay very special and has stolen a little piece of our son, Franks heart.
Do stay here if you get a chance - we hope to come back when we can.

We spent 4 nights in the kings villa. Kololo is a wonderful lodge to enjoy the Waterberg: the hiking, the cycling, the horse riding (Savannah Horse Trails), and the game drive at Welgevonden are excellent. It was very nice to be able to walk with the kids so close from the games such as the giraffes, the zebras, and the wild beasts in such a nice environment.
