“Loved Riversong-absoltuley gorgeous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2009

My partner and I stayed here for a night on our way to Queenstown and absolutely loved the hosts. They are just so sweet and helpful, from giving us maps, tips of where to eat, the best way to Queenstown, the amazing breakfast, and the packed muffins for our trip on. Just amazing.
The room was comfy and was welcomingly warm given how cold it was at that time of year.

Would love to stay at Riversong again in the future

Riversong is truly a lovely stay - comfortable, clean, friendly hosts, unbeatable view, scrumptious breakfasts, I could go on an on. We stayed 2 nights, and just loved the place. It's about a 5-minute drive to Wanaka, and the Clutha River is right across the drive! We relaxed on the deck, watching the sunset, drinking wine, and Ian gave us flyfishing lessons! Truly a wonderful stay and charming place. A must-stay!

The view from our room was exquisite, and it's a wonderfully quiet location. We hadn't come for the fishing but wanted somewhere with a beautiful outlook that we could stroll along. The Clutha runs almost outside and with the trees lining it and the mountains behind was beautiful to look at whatever time of day. As we weren't fishing we had more to do with Anne than Ian, who was out guiding mostly. Anne was a wonderful combination of kindness and empathy, intelligent opinions, and practical knowledge. She took us up to the mouth of the Clutha so we could have a walk that wasn't too tiring, and gave good advice about what to see in town and around. The breakfasts set you up for the whole day. While smallish what we loved about our downstairs room was being able to open the side door and sit on the deck. We had a look at upstairs, which is bigger with its own balcony to see if next time we'd want to stay up there. But it's a hard choice as both rooms have wonderful features.
Wanaka is a great location to stay if you want to have day trips to the West Coast and Glaciers, and the wineries of Central Otago. We'd go back.

I can't add much more to what has already been said in the other reviews. This was such a peaceful, relaxing location. We had the upstairs room and bath with views of the Clutha River. Every afternoon I took a wonderful nap with the sounds of the river floating over me. The hosts were so warm and friendly...we felt as if we knew them for years.
The breakfasts every morning were delicious...fresh fruits, yogurts, breads, jams and cooked eggs, meats....always something different.
My partner fished every day with Ian and really enjoyed his guidance and friendly conversation. He and his wife Ann are wonderful hosts. We also loved Ann's pretty garden. We hated to leave after our 6 night stay.

We have recently retuned from a months holiday throughout N.Z.and are going to write via tripadvisor about those places worth staying at(or otherwise) to reciprocate for all the reviews we have so often checked before going on holiday.
Riversong was one of the highlights of our time in the lovely South Island. We had booked one night and stayed two, such was the welcome As fly fishing novices we availed ourselves of the true expertise(and patience) of Ian -the host and had we time would have stayed longer to build on the solid foundations he gave us.His wife Ann is one of the best adverts for N.Z. hospitality making us feel very special indeed.

Julie and I are privileged to have enjoyed excellent holidays with the Riversong Flyfishing Guide Service and accomodation at Riversong B&B. Ann and Ian Horrax have welcomed us into their beautiful riverside home on 3 trips to the South Island. Albert Town and Wanaka have been a special "vacation home" and Riversong a comfortable and welcome rest in our travels. On our last trip we should have doubled our stay through the Easter holiday! Our stays have become longer on each visit. Beyond friendship, Ann and Ian have guided our travels with advice for tramping, day hiking, auto touring, dining, shopping, reading and relaxing. Genuine Kiwi hospitality will continue to make the Riversong a highlight of our trips to Otago. Ian, John and Jake have guided us on epic fishing journeys into superb wild trout backcountry fishing venues. Julie and I enjoy the guiding tutelage and patience so expertly shown by Jake, John and Ian. Keen fly anglers, we hope to return to Otago annually to renew and cultivate our friendships.
