“Rest and Relaxation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

We have stayed at Grand Mercure Oakridge Resort in Wanaka three times now as a member of the Accor Vacation Club and each time found the place to be quiet, clean and modern. We had a couple of small disappointments this time round though. There was a light bulb out in the bedroom. When I asked to have it fixed, we were told it would be looked at the next day. It wasn't. Also, I can't understand why a single sheet would be used on the double bed. The price you pay for accommodation here, you'd think you would expect better than this. The bed was also very hard.
Anyway, we found the staff to be very friendly and our time here was very enjoyable.

Found it eventually, further out of town than expected, nice welcome in reception, our standard allocation was at the far end of the complex with nice views of the mountains, we found the room rather small for two people, like a previous reviewer it seemed that the bed was to big for the room layout thus obstructing access to the wardrobe which also had the fridge and tea making facilities within, in an attempt to overcome this problem, the side table had been cut in half and propped against the wall, we felt that the resort was not fully functioning, there seemed to be very few guests staying. We were informed that the restaurant was closed and a eatery next door was suggested if required, the walk into town is about 2km downhill, so consider the walk back.
Breakfast was continental only and over looking the pool area which looked very nice.
If we needed to stay in this area in future we would probably search for somewhere closer to town.

Oakridge is about 2kms from Wanaka township by a good road. Set on expansive rural grounds with mountain views it is a welcoming palce to stay. There is an excellent outdoor pool surrouinded by a number of hot spa pools - all free for guests.
Staff were friendly and helpful; food in the restaurant was acceptable and we were pleased we stayed there for the night.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights from 19-21 november 2012. We had initially booked a hotel room but decided to ask at reception about changing to a self catering apartment. Our request was fulfilled efficiently and politely, and all the reception staff we came across were friendly and helpful. The 1 bedroom apartment was on the first floor and was huge; really spacious, clean, well equipped kitchen area, dining table seating 6, lounge area, big bedroom, big bathroom with washing machine and tumble dryer, and big patio area with another big table and stunning views of the mountains. Like other reviews said, it is about a 5 minute drive from the lake and has no lake views but it doesn't advertise itself as having lake views, and the views arent exactly horrible! We used the gym which was well equipped, the 2 main pools and surrounding hot tubs which were lovely, the smaller lap pool was shut as its not heated and still a bit too cold, and we had a massage which was very good. We found it a great base to explore the area from, great value for money and would stay here again.

My new wife and I travelled around NZ as part of our honeymoon, and we started in this hotel. The staff were lovely and upgraded us as it was our honeymoon to a lovely apartment and gave us money off for the restaurant. The apartment was lovely with an enormous bed, and was also very well equipped with washer, drier, dish-washer and fridge/freezer. Also the compliamentary wifi was very useful! The pool area with the hot-tubs was excellent, and was lovely to relax in. Also on a clear night you can chill out looking up at the stars while in the hot-tub. The food at the restaurant was superb, especially the NZ lamb which was delicious! Also had a very good selection of wines from Central Otago. The staff around the hotel were very friendly and did all they could to help us out with our activities. The only downside of the hotel was that it was about a 20min walk from the centre of Wanaka and to the bus station etc, and about 30-40mins away from Puzzlingworld. However, if you can manage the walk I would definitely recommend this hotel. It wasn't the cheapest hotel in the world, but I feel that you get a lot for your money. Worth going for the pools alone!
