“Perfect!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

Spent three nights here and had a great time. The hosts "Stu" and "Mel" were fantastic and went out of their way to help us with recommendations for dinner, assistinmg with Transport and tips on what to do. Breakfasts were stunning as was the location of the Lodge.

Wanaka is a beautiful area, dominated by a large glacial lake with very good fishing. Swimming is also popular, if rather bracing, the water is cold! Local restaurants are either a short walk or a couple of minutes by car. This is a beatifully fitted out B&B with exceptional views, great service and great breakfasts, definitely five star service to match. Sited in quiet countryside above the main town, but close enough for easy access, Mountain Range Lodge is all a great B&B should be, you are made to feel very welcome. Our hosts were helpful, very polite and nothing was too much trouble. Sitting sipping cold pinot gris in the hot tub, looking out over lovely hills and beautiful sunsets are our main memories of this exeptionally good B&B. Book without fear, we would love to go back for longer!

Room Tip: We found our room overlooking the mountains really lovely.

We had a stay in may and were spoilt rotten. Sandra looked after us, she was very attentive. I was impressed by the attention to detail and care. A lovely stay you won't be disappointed.

We spent 4 days at Mountain Range Lodge over the April event of wings over wanaka. What a fantastic few days with hosts that you could never fault. Mel and Stuart's friendliness, knowledge of the area coupled with the home comforts of baking, fires and just general relaxation made our stay so enjoyable. I would certainly recommend anyone contemplating accommodation in Wanaka to pull up outside Mountain Range and check in. Thanks Mel and Stuart for a great stay.

Room Tip: Every room is a good room - there are only 5 so peace and tranquility awaits

We arrived in a wet and windy Wanaka which forced us to change our plans about what to do that afternoon. But we immediately felt better when Stuart lit the fire, made us a pot of proper tea and Mel baked some of her delicious brownies. During the rain, the lodge was a gloriously comforting haven. And during the subsequent three days when the weather improved and we explored the beautiful scenery around Wanaka the lodge became a home from home. It was fab returning to the lodge, eating some more of Mel's delicious treats, making some tea or having a glass of wine. And Mel, Stuart and Sandra couldn't be more helpful; I could give lots of examples but just one was when one night when we were too tired to go into town, Sandra drove us in so we could pick up an Indian takeaway to eat at the lodge. Perfect.

I know you'll probably be headed to Queenstown - but it is an over-commercialised dump. Change your plans so you spend time in beautiful Wanaka instead. In fact change your plans just so you stay at Mountain Range. Your only regret will be that you will, eventually, have to leave.

Room Tip: The deluxe McKerrow room is well worth it but all rooms are beautiful

In February we spent a week in Melbourne and Sydney and then two glorious weeks in New Zealand where we picked up a car in Auckland driving as far south as Dunedin and ending our stay with three nights at the fantastic Mountain Range Lodge. We spent a lot of time on line planning our trip and this was the icing on the cake.....A big enticement was having the dinner coupon at the Lone Star for booking a third night where we had a delicious meal (and it is in walking distance). The accommodations at Mountain Range exceeded our expectations and we are still talking about "I wonder what Melanie is baking for our dessert tonight."
Stuart, Mel and Sandra were there for whatever our needs were and we so appreciate their kindness and hospitality. On our first trip in 2008 we stayed in Queenstown which was nice but too many tourists.....Wanaka is beautiful, only an hour from Queenstown and all activites are at your disposal. Stuart helped us plan a hike up to the Rob Roy Glacier and we had a great time. The lodge is immaculate and the decor is tastefully done with attention to detail....hopefully we can visit again in the future....Thanks for having a frist-class operation.
