“Outstanding hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

From the moment we arrived at the Montrose, Barbara and Phil made us feel like a part of their family with their wonderful warmth and hospitality. We had a cozy room in their beautiful home and everything was well laid out and the cleanliness was simply outstanding. Barbara was sweet enough to even make some strong tea just the way we have it at home. Would boldly recommend the place to anybody traveling to Wanaka.

During our 12 days stay in NZ, Montrose B&B was the best we had. Barbara, Phil and Mika (the beautiful dog) were excellent hosts. The room was so comfortable, tidy and clean. Together with the warm hospitality, we can't agree more with the previous reviewers that this is indeed a wonderful place to stay. Barbara was very kind to buy a new baby cot for our little baby during our stay without us requesting it.
Real value for money and I doubt you can get better B&B elsewhere is Wanaka.
So, make sure you contact Barbara to get the best deal and I can guarantee you that you will not regret!

Barbara and Phil made us welcome from the moment we arrived. They even gave us parking space in their own garage! Our evening meal and breakfast were both excellent and they are clearly had the very highest standards in everything they did. Our room was spotless and had all the amenities we needed for a really comfortable stay. Our evening was relaxing after a long and tiring drive, but we soon forgot those worries as they engaged us in conversation over a wide range of subjects. It was definitely the best accommodation during nearly three weeks in New Zealand. Our one regret was that we did not stay longer as they were such good hosts and Wanaka is such a beautiful and peaceful location, but with enough to do to make it warrant a longer stay.

From the moment we introduced ourselves we felt comfortable and Wanaka became our home away from home. Barb and Phil welcomed us and we relaxed in their company with a cuppa in hand and chatted about mutual friends that had stayed there and recommended there B&B to us.
Five stars for the experience and the same for their hospitality.

Stayed 15 nights on the South Island in New Zealand and this was our most memorable and enjoyable stay. A modern, clean, and inviting home in the beautiful city of Wanaka. The hosts Barbara and Phil made us feel at home with great conversations, warm hospitality, and a yummy and hearty breakfast to start off the day right. Free unlimited wi-fi and use of their laundry facilities were added perks. We stayed in the queen room with private bath which we were kindly upgraded to, and the room was nicely furnished with a modern bathroom. We stayed at a lot of hotels/motels throughout our trip and this was by far the best value and most relaxing stay. We originally booked two nights but stayed a third night to go on a deep canyoning trip that was delayed due to weather, and we were so glad to have an extra night at this charming B&B. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back if we are fortunate enough to return to New Zealand one day. Thanks Barbara and Phil for a great stay!

We stayed at the Montrose bed-and-breakfast in mid-September on the last leg of our trip to New Zealand and Australia. Originally when we planned this trip we were going to use our hotel points but decided instead to try something different so we booked a combination of hotels and very budget friendly bed and breakfast. We had a crazy schedule with very limited time and thought this would give us a more authentic experience.

The bed-and-breakfast that we have experienced before were more akin to boutique hotels and not actually in someone's home. Recently having an unpleasant experience we were very leery and thought maybe of changing but we had already prepaid so we gave it another try, at least for one night. All of our apprehensions were gone upon meeting Barb and Phil.

We thought maybe we would feel uncomfortable or
restricted being that we were in someone's home but we did not. Barb and Phil were very warm and welcoming. They were very friendly and very helpful, we felt completely comfortable and at ease in their home and with them. We enjoyed their company and had many pleasant conversations. We also enjoyed interacting with other guests. It was very interesting to hear about their travels and what they were doing and where they were going.

We are glad that we stayed at the Montrose and would highly recommend the bed-and-breakfast.
