“Overwhelming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2014

This museum appears from the middle of nowhere. It is vast and has all types of transport imaginable and toys from many eras. It is a real trip down memory lane. It is well organised considering how many exhibits there are. Not just for blokes. There is plenty of interest for females also. Certainly worth a visit.
There is a decent café where beer tasting is also available.

“Mind blowing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

I have been dragged through plenty of museums in my time but I have to say that this one was the most interesting yet. So much to look at and discover. What a collection! Great way to spend a few hours - or a day! Brought back plenty of memories. Nice food and coffee at the cafe.

“Collector's nirvana (a little crazy)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

This place was lots of fun on a windy Wanaka day (except when walking between the four buildings, amazed that it just kept going). To call this museum eclectic is an understatement: we expected cars, planes, and "toys" of all descriptions, but there were additional collections that went uncommented on (sewing machines, radios, salt & pepper sets, mining lamps etc. etc.). In the spirit of celebrating collecting in its own right, many of the descriptions dealt with how things had been obtained, rather than just what the items were. A nostalgic place more than a museum per se.

“Too much junk”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2014

Cons:
Too much stuff crammed in
Almost impossible to access exhibits
Badly organised
Little or no information
Large part of collection rusting or rotting and filled with dead plants and model planes
Expensive
Poor cafe experience.

Pros:
Interesting exhibits can sometimes be found
Varied

Would be better to get rid of a large proportion of the stuff and give better access to the rest.

“Too much stuff!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014

There really is so much stuff to see here, but it did seem a little cluttered in parts - some cars were crammed in so closely in one of the sheds that there was hardly room to move amongst them! That said, the collection really is impressive. My four children, ranging in age from 8 to 16, all found much to keep them interested, especially the two-seater pedal cars that kept them entertained for ages.
