This was our second visit to The Cow in Wanaka. The place is nicely tucked away between a couple of other nice looking places, with a shared outdoor fireplace. As it was mid-winter, the place was reasonable full with families coming from the slopes.
The restaurant has a simple menu of pizzas, and pastas. The wine list is nice, with some local stuff, as well as some South Island beers. Unfortunately they didn't sell the local Wanaka beers.
We ordered pizza (the Queens) and mushroom pasta. The ordered pizza (smallest size) was absolutely great, and huge. Full of ingredients, and really tasty. The pasta was I would say OK. It was a bit bland, and could be a bit tastier. The portion was also huge. The Monteiths beers and ciders were very good, and served cold in a cold glass.
The staff was quick, and very friendly. Also the woman in the kitchen greeted us friendly and made us feel welcome.
Definitely a recommendation, and hope that the pastas in the future will be as good as the pizzas.
