“Perfectly located and heavenly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

Imagine this..a home away from home located literally a few hundred metres from the access road to Cardrona Ski Fields, amazing views, luxurious bedrooms with divinely comfortable beds and everything you could need at your fingertips, impeccable and tasteful interior and a warm and welcoming lounge with a fireplace and two lovely hosts who have thought of everything when it comes to making you feel at home and thoroughly spoilt. This was our blissful reality when we stayed at the homestead last week with our two teens. Anne and Blyth are naturals when it comes to hosting and literally everything was taken care of. I have travelled a fair bit and our stay was a very happy surprise because we had never experienced this kind of hospitality before. The breakfast spread was plentiful and even our teens went away from the table unable to eat anymore. We did the special dinner cooked by Blyth and it was well worth it. He is a chef and everything was wonderful. Again everything including the wine and the ambience was considered. Oh and say yes to the cheese plate, it was divine. We will be back!

Dear Brisgirl & family, Thank you very much for coming to stay at Waiorau, your kind review and feedback. We really enjoyed your company and were pleased you had a chance to get some skiing in. Hopefully we will see you again during your next Summer break to NZ. Take care. Blyth & Ann

We were only going to stay 2 nights but stayed an extra night because it was so nice.
Great location and very family friendly, my 3 yr old still talks about Mr Basel and Miss BB.
Blyth and Ann are fabulous hosts and their home is beautiful, comfortable and most importantly warm after a hard day on the slopes.
We are looking forward to staying there again and Waiorau Homestead would be my pick of places to stay in Wanaka.
Thank you for a wonderful stay.

I can't wait to go back to Waiorau Homestead for future snow holidays! I enjoyed the friendly atmosphere created by Blyth and Ann - always up for a general chat and great with providing advice about restaurant choices, accessing the snow, etc. Their pets (2 beagles and a cat) were another highlight and we enjoyed meeting and hanging out with them, although if you are not an animal person it would be more than easy to avoid them. I loved the little details that made the stay more comfortable such as the warmth of our room and the house, the comfy bathrobes, the underfloor heating in the bathroom, the warm fire in the lounge room, the supply of yummy beverages, the delicious breakfast and the general hospitality of Blyth and Ann. We also enjoyed one of the dinners cooked by Blyth and it was amazing!! If you want to go out to dinner there is Cardrona Hotel a couple of minutes drive up the road and Wanaka is a 20 minute drive away. Also the entrance to Cardrona ski fields is only a couple of minutes drive also so very convenient for skiers and snowboarders.

Dear Guests
Our apologies for the delay in coming back to thank you very much for your review and which we appreciate very much. It has been a busy winter and we were glad to host you during that time and pleased also that you loved the beagles - they like their own special mention as well! We hope to see you at Waiorau again in the future. Kindest regards, Ann & Blyth.

My husband and I were looking for places to stay on our snow trip to NZ and we choose this property because one of these specials you can find online time to time and were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful, cozy and comfortable it was. Waiorau Homestead is a perfect charming and enchanted little place in the middle of snow farms and skifields, Cardrona is just next door. The hosts Ann and Blyth are just amazing people and they don’t measure efforts ttrying to please you. The bedrooms are amazingly well equipped and decorated to make you few at home. Breakfast is delicious with a big variety of everything and not forgetting to mention the cozy guest lounge area with fire place and good selection of music and movies, afternoon nibbles and tea, wine and spa! Love it love it love it! We are definitely staying there again on our next trip to NZ. Highly recommended!

Upon arriving at Waiorau Homestead, we were instantly blown away with the beauty of the place. The quiet serenity was just what we needed to unwind and relax. But there was also never a shortage of things to do should you felt like it. It was the perfect escape.

Blythe and Anne were so accommodating, friendly, and generous. Nothing was too much or too hard. They really went out of their way to make our time at the Homestead a memorable one and were sad to leave.

The location was perfect, just being a short drive down the road into Wanaka for great shopping, and even greater restaurants, pubs, cafes, anything you wanted. And an even shorter drive to the ski fields for some fun in the snow.

My husband and I will definitely be returning to the Homestead in future and want to bring some friends and family. Whatever reason for going, whether it’s a romantic holiday or a getaway with friends, Waiorau Homestead is the perfect place.

This is the best place we have stayed in NZ. Every year we travel to the South Island for the snow and chanced upon the Waiorau Homestead with a late booking. From before we arrived (a phone call to ensure we knew the directions) to our departure; the service, comfort and attention to detail was second to none.
Hosts, Ann and Blyth could not have made our stay a more pleasant one. The breakfasts were wholesome and fulfilling and the one dinner we had prepared for us by Blyth was quite simply the best meal I've eaten in NZ. (Sorry I couldn't finish it all - my belly isn't that big!) Sampled some very nice NZ wine along with the apres ski cheese platter - food was never a shortage.
Location to the Cardrona skifield access road is very close and not too far to travel to surrounding skifields.
We will definitely be staying here again if we are lucky enough to get a booking and am happy to recommend to anyone a chance to enjoy these great host's company.
Thanks again Blyth for running my phone down to the airport!!

This was our second stay at the homestead and it was just as great as the first. Ann and Blyth are fabulous hosts and as soon as we walked in we remembered why we loved it so much. The rooms are beautiful, the location as close to the skiing as you can get, and the hospitality fantastic. There is always something to eat and drink, be it tea and fleshly baked muffins or wine and a cheese platter, all to be eaten in front of the endlessly roaring fire. The dinners cooked by Blyth were delicious, and he even cooked separate fresh and healthy meals of our kids. As parents of young kids, it is great to be able to put them to bed, not worry about a babysitter and sit down to a romantic adults dinner. And of course the kids loved the skiing, the dogs, and marshmallow roasting on the outside fire....
