“The perfect enchanted place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

My husband and I were looking for places to stay on our snow trip to NZ and we choose this property because one of these specials you can find online time to time and were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful, cozy and comfortable it was. Waiorau Homestead is a perfect charming and enchanted little place in the middle of snow farms and skifields, Cardrona is just next door. The hosts Ann and Blyth are just amazing people and they don’t measure efforts ttrying to please you. The bedrooms are amazingly well equipped and decorated to make you few at home. Breakfast is delicious with a big variety of everything and not forgetting to mention the cozy guest lounge area with fire place and good selection of music and movies, afternoon nibbles and tea, wine and spa! Love it love it love it! We are definitely staying there again on our next trip to NZ. Highly recommended!

Hi Ludmilla, my apologies for the delay in coming back - we have had a busy winter and only now taking the time for a small breather! But thank you so much for taking the time to post a review for us - we are glad you enjoyed your time at Waiorau Homestead and of course we would love to have you back again for another holiday some time. Take care and best regards. Ann & Blyth

Upon arriving at Waiorau Homestead, we were instantly blown away with the beauty of the place. The quiet serenity was just what we needed to unwind and relax. But there was also never a shortage of things to do should you felt like it. It was the perfect escape.

Blythe and Anne were so accommodating, friendly, and generous. Nothing was too much or too hard. They really went out of their way to make our time at the Homestead a memorable one and were sad to leave.

The location was perfect, just being a short drive down the road into Wanaka for great shopping, and even greater restaurants, pubs, cafes, anything you wanted. And an even shorter drive to the ski fields for some fun in the snow.

My husband and I will definitely be returning to the Homestead in future and want to bring some friends and family. Whatever reason for going, whether it’s a romantic holiday or a getaway with friends, Waiorau Homestead is the perfect place.

This is the best place we have stayed in NZ. Every year we travel to the South Island for the snow and chanced upon the Waiorau Homestead with a late booking. From before we arrived (a phone call to ensure we knew the directions) to our departure; the service, comfort and attention to detail was second to none.
Hosts, Ann and Blyth could not have made our stay a more pleasant one. The breakfasts were wholesome and fulfilling and the one dinner we had prepared for us by Blyth was quite simply the best meal I've eaten in NZ. (Sorry I couldn't finish it all - my belly isn't that big!) Sampled some very nice NZ wine along with the apres ski cheese platter - food was never a shortage.
Location to the Cardrona skifield access road is very close and not too far to travel to surrounding skifields.
We will definitely be staying here again if we are lucky enough to get a booking and am happy to recommend to anyone a chance to enjoy these great host's company.
Thanks again Blyth for running my phone down to the airport!!

This was our second stay at the homestead and it was just as great as the first. Ann and Blyth are fabulous hosts and as soon as we walked in we remembered why we loved it so much. The rooms are beautiful, the location as close to the skiing as you can get, and the hospitality fantastic. There is always something to eat and drink, be it tea and fleshly baked muffins or wine and a cheese platter, all to be eaten in front of the endlessly roaring fire. The dinners cooked by Blyth were delicious, and he even cooked separate fresh and healthy meals of our kids. As parents of young kids, it is great to be able to put them to bed, not worry about a babysitter and sit down to a romantic adults dinner. And of course the kids loved the skiing, the dogs, and marshmallow roasting on the outside fire....

Cardrona's best kept secret.

Pleasantly satisfied with the overall experience from room stay to food, wine and company of the hosts. Their service is of top notch and it's definitely worth a stay be it individual or family.

My wife and I, plus our two youngest girls, stayed for five nights most recently in this superb accommodation.
While the weather was not always conducive to outdoor activities (the high country horse-riding is a must though), none of us cared in the least as the home itself was such a relaxing and comfortable place to hang out and recharge.
The homestead is unique in the valley for its idyllic surroundings and landscaping, stunning artistic finish inside and out, and its attention to detail in terms of comfort. Although we did not try the spa, pool or outdoor fire, we really appreciated the sky TV, the wireless internet, and the beds which were so comfortable and cosy. This place really is five-star.
The thing we liked as adults was the way each room was decorated. It certainly reflected the history and incorporated the natural beauty of the area - check out the fire!
However, the thing that will stay in our memories, beyond the comforts of this homestead itself, was the hospitality of the hosts. We were made to feel like visiting friends rather than paying guests.
While our privacy was always respected, we also enjoyed wonderful time as a couple with Blythe and Sue. Little food treats and drinks would often appear from the kitchen for our young ones. As two very successful career professionals, our hosts' attention to detail and service was very evident in this home stay experience. Their warmth and charm were our particular pleasure however.
As a family who have lived overseas for the past seventeen years, we have enjoyed a wide range of accommodation experiences in many continents. As New Zealanders, we would certainly recommend Waiorau Homestead and our hosts as a 'must stay' to anyone local or foreign visiting the Otago Lakes district (forget Queenstown!).

Dear Ioana & family, thank you so much for your kind comments and we really enjoyed having you to stay, the girls were so well mannered and the easiest guests to have. It was great to catch up with some expat Kiwis as well! We hope the new baby arrives safe & well and we look forward to meeting you on your next visit to New Zealand. Kind regards, Ann & Blyth
