“Excellent retreat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

Everything about our stay at Beaconfield B&B was impeccable. The place was incredibly comfortable, immaculately clean. Lake Wanaka ended up being one of our favorite stops in New Zealand because we had such a lovely place to stay - not to mention Mike & Carla are the nicest couple! We really enjoyed meeting them.

I would recommend a 2+ night stay to really make the most of your time with Carla and Mike in their beautifully designed and furnished home. Bedrooms are luxurious and open directly onto the garden with lovely views across lawn and their vineyard to Lake Wanaka and the Aspiring range beyond. True to say you will not find coffee making facilities in your room, but Carla will offer you refreshments as you arrive / return and perhaps even a delicious muffin for your picnic. Mike will provide suggestions for walks and restaurants. We wanted to buy a thermos for our onward journey and Mike phoned ahead to check that they were in stock and provided directions. Breakfast is delicious. Mike and Carla are most interesting company and their home made wine a welcome treat after a long walk!

We had to recheck the address of this B & B establishment to ensure that we were at the right place - the house is absolutely stunning, the gardens, including the vineyard, show it off to its best and the views are breathtaking. Our accommodation could only be described as of the highest standard. On top of all this, the breakfast was a feast. Carla and Mike leave no stone unturned in their quest to look after their guests. The tips we received for places to eat and visit made sure that our stay in Wanaka was a most memorable one. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Book early to avoid disappointment

We and my 6-year old boy stayed 3 nights at beaconfield. The room is really comfortable and big, with a big garden and lake view. We packed our dinner back to eat for 2 nights as we just wanted to enjoy our stay and the view as much as we can. Thanks Mike and Carla for being such wonderful hosts, brought out legos for my boy to play and bought the coco cerals for my fussy eater boy. Mike cooked very yummie breakfast, everyday is a different cooked breakfast. Carla's muffins are also very nice. Thanks for everything.

My daughter & I spent only one night at Beaconfield but it was the best night of our nine day excursion through both islands. Mike & Carla were wonderful hosts. They helped us with restaurant suggestions for dinner & mapped out our drive the next day to Christchurch ensuring we took the road less travelled with all the stunning views. And speaking of stunning views, you can't beat the ones right from your patio! The lake & the mountains were breathtaking at sundown & sunrise! I would highly recommend this B&B and I suggest at least a two night stay! First class all the way!

First Class B&B with large comfortable rooms and baths for two couples. If you like hash, Mike cooks a great one along with eggs, Carla's muffins, cerials and all the trimmings for breakfast. Located up on a hill looking over the lake and only a short drive outside of downtown Wanaka, this is a great location, friendly and helpful hosts. Mike and his neighbors also make a very good Syrah, a must taste if you like fine wines.

Room Tip: Both rooms are excellent.

Beautiful views, plenty of space, nice big king beds, bathrooms with shelf space to hold toiletries. Carla and Mike were delightful hosts. They helped us find dinner choices and shops in Wanaka, and they shared wine tasting tips. Mike cooked delicious creative breakfasts (scrambled eggs with salmon), and Carla baked fresh muffins.
