“Really really charming !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2010

A B&B with a very big Kiwi hospitality ! Felt like coming home, or visiting some family, Jo and Ian did everything to make us feel at home.
Already on beforehand they send as a long (and useful!) list of things we could see on our way from Fox Glacier to Wanaka, and when there, they also gave us lots of information.
The room was comfortable, although the bathroom was a little small (but who cares, we were on holiday !).
Breakfast was really delicious, we loved Jo's pancakes (although we didn't even try to break the record!).
When leaving Ian filled our water bottle with fresh water from their own spring, we regret that we had just one bottle to fill up, because it was tastful !
Great stay with good memories !

My wife and I spent two nights with the Harpers and enjoyed the entire experience. Both hosts went out of their way to be helpful, entertaining, and generous. Of all the people we met in the various B&Bs we visited, the Harpers were exceptional. We look back on our stay in Wanaka with fond memories.

The hosts, Jo and Ian, are relaxed, pleasant, helpful, and genuine. I had some choices to make about travel for the rest of my trip. They spent almost two hours with me helping me plan. Their advice was "spot on" and without it I may have missed some of the most memorable moments of my trip. Thank you again, Jo and Ian.

Perhaps a small thing, but telling: Jo offered me pancakes (in addition to the rest of the breakfast). I typically eat a cold breakfast so I declined. Besides, I was leaving very early. She could have easily avoided the project but made them anyway (I was the only guest that morning) and they were delicious.

All in all, a very nice stay. Just Right.

This is a homestay rather than a B&B and a very good one. The room was small but had all we needed and the food was great. For one night passing through it was exactly what we wanted although it is a long walk into town and a car is really required to go out in the evening. Jo and Ian were excellent hosts and we enjoyed their company.

We want to thank you once again for the wonderful stay we experienced at your bed and breakfast. You welcomed us with open arms and made us feel part of the family. We sure enjoyed celebrating Christmas with you and boy, those desserts were superb! Our room was small but comfortable. The bathroom consited of a shower, a restroom and and a water faucet. All we needed to freshen up!

Breakfast time was memorable, with all the delectable choices. But what we will remember the most about our stay is your hospitability. Wow! We need to applaud you for hosting such a fine establishment! You were one of our highlights while visiting New Zealand.

Thank you for being part of our special journey.

This B and B is in the style of the English and Irish B and B's. You are welcomed with a drink and home made muffin. The hosts are full of local knowledge about their area. The ensuite room is through the lounge room. It has large windows with a view of the lake. Breakfast is good with homemade pancakes.

Jo and Ian are a retired couple who rent out their two downstairs bedrooms as B&B accommodation. They are extremely friendly and like to engage in lots of conversation everytime they see you. I must agree with the last reviewer and say the room with the ensuite is tight and old fashion in decor. The bedroom does not have a TV or tea making facilities and if you want to sit down, there is only the bed to sit on. The door into the bedroom was a sliding door and it did not have a lock or even a latch. We found this a little disconcerting and unusual. The lounge room and breakfast room are shared with Jo and Ian, there is not a private area for guests to sit and watch TV or read in peace. Breakfast is between 8.00 and 8.30am with a choice of cereal, fruit and yoghurt, pancakes made by Jo and various toppings, bread and cheese, juice, tea and coffee. If you are after bacon and eggs or something different there are lots of great local cafes. Most reviewers have loved staying but I do not think I would stay again.

We appreciate your review and comments. We are very sorry that your stay was not enjoyable. Your comment about the door lock has been noted and we will be addressing this issue in the next couple of days. I think you were not very comfortable in a 'homestay' B&B situation which is what we are. We do not advertise that there are TV's or teamaking facilities in the rooms. However our guests are always offered a cup of tea (or coffee) and fresh muffins when they arrive and also on their return after their evening meal. They are also free to make one for themselves at other times (in our kitchen). Our upstairs lounge is available for guests to relax and read as is our upstairs balcony. Our price range reflects what we offer I think. I am not sure what the issue with cleanliness was as we work hard at keeping our accommodation clean and hygienic. Most of our guests tell us that they enjoy the interaction with us and that has been one of the highlights of their stay. Of course we cannot please 100% of the people 100% of the time.
