We walked up the mountain that has both the cafe and Canterbury University observatory site on its top. Once there we were nearly blown off our feet by the 80+ kph wind that was blowing gustily across the mountain top. It was so windy they had actually closed the road so people could not drive up, but someone had removed the chain and some cars came up. This was not a good idea as the gusts can blow a car off the road and if the road has been closed to traffic the insurance of the car is invalid.
However to get back to the café for the review. The food was well presented and very tasty. The drinks were superb especially the hot chocolate and the cafe was very warm considering the strength of the wind outside. The cafe was not very busy because of the supposedly closed road but was still fully staffed. A week before we walked up the observatory had 10 inches of snow but that had all gone when we walked up.
The cafe is good value for money and the food well worth the climb /walk up to the observatory site.
