I went during summer, first night on a Contiki tour. The food was passable, the room was average, the lodge itself was slightly out of date.
But I could have stayed there for a month. Having a few beers on the deck overlooking the lake was the most serene and beautiful experience of my life. Australia doesn't really do mountains, so being wedged in between them, with a lake stretching out away from me was incredible.
Grab an IPA, grab a seat, and breathe in that incredible South NZ air.
