“Navutu Stars wonderful!!~!~”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2014

Having just returned from a wonderful 6 days at Navutu we strongly disagree to this previous review,we stayed at 3 Islands over 31/2 weeks,on Navutu we found the beachfront accom great, food fantastic with lobster on the menu 5 nights out of six,we did the half meal package for food which exceeded our expectations in size, cost and quality. With only 10 bures and approx only 20 people the expectation of more than one restaurant is laughable.
The Bure was awesome, really a fan was all we needed, internet was a bonus and tea or coffee was available anytime from the dinning room, could even be delivered to your bure!!!
Staff were so friendly and helpful ,conclude that there must be people that should stay home if this island cannot come up to there standards.

A white sandy beach, 30 shades of blue in the water infront of you, ecologic luxury integrated into nature, excellent food, and above all friendly personal. If you think that's a dream... it isn't. It's right there at Navutu Stars. Trips to villages, to snorkel or dive, to the blue lagoon, to caves, Yoga in the morning, move your dining table to the beach, breakfast in bed... I'll stop here. See for yourself, you won't be disappointed. It's not on the awesome adventure list of overnight stays, consider that as a plus.

We booked Navutu on a recommendation who said it was a relaxing honeymoon-style accommodation. The welcoming was very friendly after having arrived in style on the seaplane (we couldn't get the boat as there is only one service per day which leaves the mainland early in the morning, the seaplane is great fun but very expensive - but we had no other option to get there) with all staff greeting us on the beach and singing and a welcome drink. We were shown to our bure and that is unfortunately where things started to go downhill. no airconditioning, no electricals (TV, hair dryer, kettle etc) and a very dangerous-looking 'bath' in the middle of the floor next to the bed.

There is only one restaurant and the food is fantastically over priced for small portions of really bad food ($30-$40 per main). We had to send back the beef fillet on the first night as my partner couldn't even cut through it with a knife and after having to send it back the member of staff who dealt with us didn't look us in the eye for the rest of the trip, so we were scared to complain about the rest of the food which was of a similar appalling standard.

With no other food to be had we spent our three days pretty much surviving on the Pringles we'd had the good sense to buy in the airport.

The website says there is wifi but this is only for 3 hours between 3pm and 6pm each day and is very very slow (and the staff turn it off if they need to use it during those 3 hours).

Activities consist of a daily walk, fishing or snorkelling, none of which were our cup of tea so we ended up having not much else to do but sleep (as the weather wasn't good enough to sunbathe).

I get that this place is supposed to be a relaxing retreat but if visitors are going to be forced to go completely back to basics, I fail to see why they should be charged so much for it. We went on to Castaway Island which which far, far better and although still expensive - you at least feel it is worth it!

Jeff G, Manager at Navutu Stars Fiji Hotel & Resort, responded to this review, June 5, 2014
We would like to thank xcinderellix for the review, and would like to respond accordingly. Due to our long standing and continuous excellent reports, and the fact that Navutu Stars has just been awarded "Certificate of Excellence 2014", we found this review disconcerting.

Our response is as follows.

1. The prices of various sea plane charters to our region are standard and we have no control over them.

2.Our Bures are advertised and considered to be "Rustic/Chic". We have 24 hour electricity which provides adequate lighting and power outlets, for guests to charge cameras etc.,listen to music, or use an appliance of their choice. We unfortunately do not have kettles in our Bures as the electrical demand of these appliances creates problems with our generated power grid. Guests are fully aware that they may order a fresh tea/coffee tray from early mornings to late nights, whenever they desire.Guests are also fully aware that we supply hair dryers from our reception any time during opening hours.
The ambiance and atmosphere of our resort does not warrant TV sets.
Our sunken baths in our Grand Bures are a standard feature for Spa Bath treatments, and we will look into ways of covering or lighting the bath, to make it more visible, especially at night.

3.Yes we have only one restaurant. We cater for a maximum of 10 Bures, and 20 guests. We cannot comment further on this, as far as to say we do not need multiple restaurants at this resort!

4.Our main course meal pricing on all of our menus, including the vegetarian choices, has a far wider range than what xcinderelliex quoted, it actually ranges from $15.00 to $38.00.
Our chefs produce a very high standard of meal quality and presentation. This is clear in continuous reports from previous guests. As managers we enjoy items from our menu on a daily basis and we are personally involved in menu planning, ensuring diversity, content and portion size. We find xcinderelliex's statements on receiving bad food totally unfounded.
We pride ourselves in having the friendliest and most efficient waiters, and we do not believe one of our staff suddenly had a bad attitude toward the guest, without either the guest or the staff member reporting this to us accordingly?

5.WiFi. We have recently introduced this to our resort. The system is currently on the same connection as our office computers, so we have to limit the times to 3pm to 6pm, as we cannot operate our office with WiFi on, during normal work hours.
If any guest requests WiFi out of the normal times, we are always happy to switch this on for a limited period, especially in an emergency.
No manager or staff member switches this off intentionally. Our connection frequently is lost or is very slow, and often this is from problems on the mainland, and mostly on weekends. This is Fiji... and we are on an island!
In future we are looking at up-grading this facility.

6. Our activities are diverse, cover a large area, and include cultural, marine, kayaking, wake boarding, walks, markets, hikes and sports. Guests are always welcome to inquire about other experiences, which we organize for them, and scuba diving which is out-sourced.We are planning on adding more water sports such as paddle boarding, and water skiing in the very near future, and also more demanding mountain hiking in exciting areas.

xcinderelliex we would like to add that at no time did you voice your feelings to any of the 2 managers during their stay. We as a team have a very good and open relationship with our guests and feel that your personal feelings should have been brought to our immediate attention. Dissatisfaction and complaints after the fact cannot resolve and find solutions to improve your experience on a personal level. That is what we are here for.

kindly,
Jeff an Colleen.

We stayed for 9 days. Despite arriving during an absolute downpour we were met by friendly staff with very large umbrellas! The resort absolutely lived up to our expectations. The management and staff were always able to help without being overwhelming. Totally relaxed atmosphere and beautiful accommodation in one of the grand bures. Lovely walks along the beach either morning or evening. Mossie repellent a really good investment. By the second day most of the staff knew our names and went out of their way to organise whatever we wanted to do day or night. Visiting the village school was a highlight, had a heads up in previous reviews and took some materials for the children. The school teachers do a terrific job with limited resources. Can recommend the fishing trip and the massages! A very big thank you to all the staff for making it a memorable holiday. We will definitely be returning. Alex and Krystyna from Melbourne.

Room Tip: Grand Bure number 3 has great access to a private beach and almost total privacy!

Stayed there with my husband for 5 days. We booked directly on the resort's website. We wanted a garden bure, but it was not available for all 5 days, I asked for a combination of beachfront and garden, and they were happy to help, charging for the price of cheaper garden bure. The island has this resort and one village.
Resort has only 8 guest bures: 1 garden (smaller, very private), 2 grands (with a bathtub in tge room), and 5 beachfront. All are beautifully presented, always clean, free bottles of water daily, very comfortable bed, bar fridge, mosquito nets on the windows, but not on the deck doors. There are probably as many staff to look after you as there are guests.

Each bure has a hammock and sun lounge. Nice bathroom with shower, mirrors in bathroom and room itself, adequate lighting, but if u want to put make up on - do it during the day light. Great bed linen and towels, beach towels provided by the office, nice bath robes in the wardrobe. Shampoo, conditioner, soap, shower gel and body lotion are provided. Free limited hours Wifi internet available near the office on the main (communal) deck.

There's no air conditioning, but ceiling fans. Some might find it too hot in the bure, as it's always humid. Plug-in mosquito zappers with tablets are provided in each bure, but I was bitten a lot. I believe there are also mosquito nets available from the office. There some books and board games available. Books mostly in languages other than English. Each bure has a CD player, selection of CDs available at the office.

There is a board where daily activities are written, some are free, some others, like lovo night, are for an extra charge. Tea and coffee are unlimited and available throughout the day.

Meals are served on the deck overlooking the sea. In our opinion, meal plan isn't necessary if you're not big eaters. Basic breakfast (included, per couple) is 4 pieces of toast, 4 muffins, cereal, muesli, fruit platter, butter, jams, selection of teas, coffee, 2 juices. We found it to be enough, and usually took muffins away to have for an afternoon tea. Lunch selection is usually the same. Dinner menu changes every day. I think there are some snacks available as well. Everything is charged in US$. Prices aren't cheap, but acceptable. Cocktails are great. Food is tasty. No grocery store as far as I know. You might want to bring some food, but everything must be kept in the fridge - ants. Bring wine and spirits from duty free - much cheaper.

There's a little shop at the resort where you can buy sunscreen, other essential stuff if you forgot something, all double the price comparing to the main island prices, AND in USD. Clothing and souvenirs are extremely overpriced as well.

Service is excellent! Everyone knows your name! Api, Wati, Sai, Torika - THANK YOU!

Free daily yoga is done by the beauty spa staff. I highly recommend free 30 mins massage on arrival, and if you are lucky enough to get Torika - extend it! Worth every penny. I also recommend a coconut body scrub - great experience, coconut prepared before you!

There is a very nice swimming pool we used a lot. The beach is great, you can swim every day at high tide. The tide times are written on the board every day.

If you're not used to a type of holiday where there's not much other activity but sleeping, eating, swimming, snorkeling - take a book, tablet with movies or you will be restless like I was. :o) But it got better on the 4th day.

Absolutely recommend if you want to learn what a true meaning of rest and relaxation is.

Thank you to all Navutu Stars staff, Caroline and Jeff.

We stayed at Navutu Stars for seven magical nights. There are many things that make Navutu Stars so special - the beautiful location, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, wonderful food, and the warm and friendly staff. You can choose to go kayaking, snorkelling, for a walk along the private beach, or an activity from the activities board (activities change daily). Or you may simply decide to relax on the day-bed, and take in the sights and sounds of this magical place. We would love go back to Navutu Stars in the not too distant future!

I've traveled to many places, and this by far was one of the most amazing places I've been to. My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and it was just perfect for us. We stayed here for 7 nights and had a vacation of a lifetime.

We went snorkeling and kayaking every day, enjoyed walking along the private beach, and spent so much time relaxing. This is the perfect honeymoon destination.

The food here is excellent and it is definitely worth it to opt for the meal plan. I'm a vegetarian, and getting food here was no problem.

We stayed in a regular bure our first 5 nights, and switched to a grand bure for our last two nights. Having a bath drawn each night was amazing and so relaxing.

The only thing that we had a bit of a hard time with was scuba diving. In the entire Yasawa Island Group, there is only one PADI scuba place and that is at the Blue Lagoon Resort. If you are planning a scuba trip, I would suggest staying closer to there. Navutu Stars was perfect for us, since we pretty much felt like we had the island to ourselves. However, each time we wanted to go scuba diving, we had to hire a water taxi to take us over there, which was a little spendy.

One other thing to take into account is that during low tide, the beach in front of Navutu recedes quite a bit. The beach in front of the regular bures can look a bit like a mud flat. However, we found that this was the perfect time to go kayaking out into the channel outside the resort. At this time, it's very easy to see down into the coral right from your kayak (which the resort provides for free). We jumped off our kayaks most days and snorkeled around right there, which we really enjoyed.

Another tip - if you are prone to mosquito bites, make sure you bring bug spray, and lots of it. I was completely eaten alive, even though my husband somehow didn't get a single bite.
