“Still looking for the "STARS"?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2013

This was our 5th trip to Fiji and we decided to leave Nanuya Island Resort early and try Navutu Stars. After reading the reviews and the resort website, we were expecting luxury ~ a wonderful beach, fantastic swimming/snorkelling and 5 star dining. We did find wonderful staff and large, ocean front bures but we were very disappointed in the beach, swimming/snorkelling and the dining. The beach has been reclaimed and is totally unswimable during mid to low tide, the water is murky and the dining lacking in consistancy. As supper must be ordered at lunch, there is no mystery surrounding dinner and you are in and out of the dining room in less than an hour. The prawns were cooked to perfection the first night; the next night they were overcooked and tough. The beef was perfectly done but the sauce lacked flavour. We have had much better meals at other resorts. Considering the cost of the accommodation, we did not expect to be charged for snorkelling trips when you could not snorkel/swim in front of the resort. $25US/person/hour!! The highlights of our visit were the staff, Watti's performance and the children's choir. Note: don't wear your good clothes/shoes to church as Dan will expect you to walk back through the mud and thistles. We went by boat but had to walk back?? Certainly not the service we expected at a 5 Star resort. Unfortunately, the manager was a "talker" not a "listener" and could not even offer us a simple sandwich when we did not want to participate in the buffet offering.

There is so much to love about this resort that i'm not sure where to start! This island doesn't have any roads or cars so things are really mellow. But we were coming from a 3 bure B&B in Taveuni so in comparison it was actually larger than what we were used to!

But bigger is better in many ways: Navutu has more food options, more snorkeling excursions to choose from, more activities like yoga and massage, more social events: there's actually a bar and sometimes a caberet!, as well as private moments like dinner on the beach or at sunset point.

The bures are excellent: large, beautiful, clean and comfortable. Our garden bure was nicely secluded, we actually preferred this to being situated on the beach.

Swimming is a little limited because it is so shallow around this part of the island. There is some decent snorkeling at the "reef" they are building just offshore.

There are actually a couple different beaches facing different directions which is great depending on the direction of the breeze as well as the location of the sunrise/sunset. The kayaks are available and a quick jaunt across the way you'll find a nice long beach. Staff will also take you anywhere you want to go and even drop you there for a secluded picnic lunch or whatever. Fun!

Yoga in the morning was a fantastic way to start each day (though management might look into adding some bracing for the 2-story decking). The instructor is also a very talented massage therapist and I recommend you experience a personal 1-hour massage at the beginning and end of your stay just in case you weren't relaxed enough already!

A couple tips for management: 1) There is a hour during the afternoon when maintenance workers spray around the area. We would have like to know more about this schedule and exactly what they were spraying. 2) It took 3 days for properly sized snorkel gear to become available, only after other guests left. This is silly! If there aren't enough to go around then don't let everyone keep them for their entire stay. Better yet, simply buy a few more sets of masks & fins in various sizes. 3) Why is everything priced in US dollars? Didn't make any sense to us.

In all, we had the best Fiji experience here of anywhere because the staff is so wonderful paired with the perfect combination of rustic vs resort. The location can't be beat for snorkeling options nearby. We can't wait to come back!

Room Tip: 3 bures (1 is a garden bure) on the north beach are more secluded. 7 bures (1 is a garden bure) on...

A real boutique resort of only 10 accomodation bures. Warm and friendly staff and a perfect setting. We were the only family but our two daughters enjoyed the real Fiji and loved the private beach and snorkelling. The food was fresh and better than anything we had previously experienced on Fiji holidays. Vegetarians very nicely catered to as well as fish lovers. Family sized bure was very spacious and mediteranian inside. Very good value for money and definately worth a second visit. Definately lives up to the Fiji dream. The seaplane trip out there is a must as is the visit to sea caves.

Couldn't say more about this hotel - magnificent location, superb layout, and the best service you could imagine. We spent 5 days there, and it was the most relaxing break I have had.
Tip - get the ferry up to the Island and seaplane back, do the yoga and get massages, arrange outdoor dinners and snorkle, snorkle, snorkle!

Room Tip: Grand Bur is excellent - great privacy and space

We went there for a 3-night couple getaway and it was a fabulous stay, the bure was just breathtaking, spa bath integrated in the ground, private terrace overlooking the bay, romantic dinner on the beach, very friendly service, intimate resort size promoting easy relationship with other guests. Among all great qualities, the key highlight was really the easy access to daily activities such as snorkeling the coral reefs in various parts of the wonderful Yasawa Islands, visit of underwater caves, visit of a traditional village; you just need to jump in the boat after the breakfast and enjoy paradise! Boat trip from Nadi to get there is an awesome visual experience through the Fiji islands.

Room Tip: Only 2 bures have the embedded spa bath, do not miss it!

We spent the most magical and relaxing 6 days at Navutu Stars, thanks to our daughter's relentless research to source Paradise for an Easter break. The journey to the island was an adventure in itself, taking a 30 minute flight by sea plane from Nadi to Turtle Island, flying over the Navutu Stars resort on the way, and then a 10 minute boat ride through clear blue water.
From the moment we arrived we enjoyed an exceptional level of service from the wonderful Fijian staff. Their natural warmth and happiness is infectious and because the resort is so small - a maximum of 18 guests and 35 staff - it felt like one large, happy family. We were all greeted by name from the minute we arrived and they knew which Bure everyone was staying in. The food was wonderful with fresh fish available every day. We could dine with our fellow guests or at a private table on the beach or on the sunset terrace. Activities were always available: snorkelling, kayaking, fishing, visiting the caves or trekking are just some examples. The Fijian Bobo massage, expertly given by Torika in our case, is not to be missed. Yoga at 7am if you are so inclined; cocktails mixed by Sunia or Kikau at 6pm; dinner and then maybe some surprise entertainment from Watti; back to the bar and finally a short walk along the beach under the stars to get to your bure. The children from the village put on a wonderful singing performance for us and we visited their church on Easter Sunday. On departure day the staff place a garland of Hibiscus around your neck and sing a harmonious goodbye in Fijian, at which point you are almost fighting back the tears and are already planning your return trip. So, yes, we loved it to bits!

We stayed in a Garden Bure over Easter & had a fantastic, amazing holiday. The staff at Navutu Stars are all friendly & welcoming, each introducing themselves & remembering your name every day! The Garden Bure was perfect, secluded enough, if you want privacy, yet a few steps to the beach, the rooms are beautifully appointed, large main room, very comfortable xtra large bed & nice touch with the built in sofas. The bathroom is equally large with all amenities & a large wardrobe. Lovely touch with the flowers in the room on arrival, also the small fridge is excellent as this cooled our wine perfectly for our 'wine o'clock' each afternoon!
The food was again excellent & very reasonably priced. The continental breakfast is ample enough, even for ones that are extra hungry at breakfast! Thoroughly recommend Navutu Stars & we'll definitely be back. Just a quick note on transfers to the island, we used Turtle Airways seaplane & would recommend this option if you are short on time at the island as is only a 30min seaplane trip as opposed to 4 hours on the Yasawa Flyer Catamaran (not much difference in the price between plane/boat). Thanks Navutu Stars, you're the best!
