“Relaxe and unwind”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2014

All staff are friendly and always greet you with a loud Bula to make you feel at home. We both loved our stay at the resort; there is so much to do for both adults and kids. Although we are a couple (no kids) we had a great time. There is an adult’s only breakfast restaurant which is a great way to start the day as well as an adult’s only pool if you want some quiet time during the day. We spent most of our time swimming/Snorkelling in the ocean as there are a lot of corals and fish to discover including clown fish (Nemo’s) as well as an option for kayaking and paddle boarding, I only wish we had brought our own snorkels. Highly recommend the Bilo bar to watch the sunset and enjoy a few cocktails as well as doing the local village tour which is resort organises for you most of the staff live at this village (take chocolates and lollies for the kids). If you have the time make your way to the spa you will feel very relaxed!! The food at the resorts is lovely but is resort prices (which is to be expected) generally we would have a big breakfast and only a few snacks throughout the day which we had purchased from a nearby town to cut costs as or share a sandwich to hold us out until dinner. Overall I would highly recommend this resort, I had read other reviews before we went and wasn't sure what it would be like however we came back very relaxed and would love to return again.

Third visit to Shangri La - we loved it, the kids loved it! Great price for accommodation, some extras expensive, but overall our holiday was relaxing and fun! Loved the beach massages and Kids club!!!

We spent 6 great nights at the Shangri-La, March 2014. Myself, husband and two children 4 and 6. It is a perfect destination for families. We found very little to fault. Perfect weather, was a quiet time to visit (the pool was never packed unless there was a game of basketball/volleyball. Restaurants were not all that busy, no waiting time during the so-called peak period. The is a little "tired" looking I guess, but for us that just adds to the charm. The setting eas just idyllic I thought. I didn't feel the need to take my magnifying glass to pick up all the faults. LOL. I feel sorry for the people who are stolen from and genuine misfortunes, But otherwise some people are just hard to please. Either stay home and be miserable or go to Denaurau, it is more cosmopolitan and up-market. We stayed in Sup. Lagoon View room, which was located perfectly with children. Nice to sit on our little balcony and watch the sunset every afternoon. Bathroom was spacious and good storage. King-size bed was heavenly. The room was a little cramped - made us realise in a few short years a family room/interconnecting room will be needed. The resort is very expensive in regards to alcohol and meals. Take snacks for lunch (I took canned tuna/salmon, sundried tomatoes, bottled olives, crackers, sweets, cup-a-soups, packet of fruit and nut mix) Had no issue declaring at Customs. Buy alcohol at Duty free/Sigatoka Town ($30 return taxi fare), or the supermarket in the village where Tomlu's Rest. is ($8 taxi fare retrun) We ate at Gecko's and Tomlu's more than once. Seafood is wonderful and less expensive than resort. However depends how much you eat. Staff very friendly and you meet everyone from the Resort there as well. Buffet Breakfast had an enormous variety we thought as did other holiday makers. I found it hard to fault. We took away croissants or muffins for our boys' to snack on. (as does most people with children) From check-in to our departure everything was smooth. The only gripe I have and I could be way off, as I have only ever heard good things about Kids Club. I just didn't get a good vibe about it. My boys' only went to two afternoon sessions during our stay. And another time I went down and stayed with them to watch an activity, I just felt the staff were disinterested and not engaging with the children. March it is a quiet time at the resort so maybe too much effort was not required? I will accept I may have formed the wrong opinion nevertheless. All in all we had a fantastic time and have no hesitation in returning next year. I highly recommend the Fire Show and Lovo feast at the Resort. Very enjoyable and everyone had a great time. Also the 2.5 hour tour to the local school and village. Really, really enjoyed the school. The children melt your heart. They have so little but are just so happy and joyful, You can donate money as you leave the school and also take footballs/soccer balls/ skipping ropes etc. They don't even have a playground with swings, monkey bars etc. (Books/pencils) Big thank-you to Ace and Marley - The Ambassadors of Fun at the resort. They certainly make your stay memorable. Vinaka!!!! See you soon

Hopefully a balanced review

Came in from Australia for our honeymoon pretty late (it was 11pm). Having not been to a resort for a long time, I was unsure what to expect. If you expect everything to fall perfectly into place, you are bound to be disappointed no matter what.
Luggage was taken to room, room service ordered. Food took a little longer, and I was hungry, but so what. It came and it was very nice.
All the food was amazing. I did get the runs one night after eating at the Bilbo bar, and the duty mgr was supposed to call me and did not. I can put that down to common error. And I am not 100% sure it was the food (and to be fair this can happen anywhere in the world and does often). I had had a bottle of water from the local village (un-opened) so it could have been that.
The staff were friendly, and helpful. Yep, some things took a little longer, sometimes the service could’ve been better but it was very friendly. Biggest problem was some other guest who got aggressive after he took our seat. Staff dealt with it professionally (no their fault), and even waived my drinks for the night. Defiantly go see the fire show.
Played golf and the course is amazing,. Great caddy.
Also, the tour company “Pacific Destinations” were fantastic. We went to a local village and swam in a waterfall. Thank you to the guides it was such a great experience.
Yes, the rooms may seem “dated” the hotel is old but the furnishings are lovely, and well maintained. The rooms are actually pretty nice, painted and big enough.Reading some of the other reviews, I think ppl may have a bee in their bonnet. There are no rats / mice. The gardens are AMAZING.
Adult pool is super relaxed. The tikkia (spelling) Restaurant there is great. Yes I agree, get breakfast early, but Omg the selection is amazing. Most restaurants are very good.
I advise you get a tally on your spend each day.
The people of Fiji are a proud ppl and they are humble is serving you. However, many live close by and are owners of the land you’re staying on, and for this are truly much richer than most guests, so respect goes both ways.
If you expect everything to go all of your way all of the time, you are going to be disappointed no matter what.

Go here if you have kids. Mine were a bit young for kids club, which looked amazing, but we could have hired a nanny more often to have adult time off to go snorkelling, kayaking etc. instead we hung out at the very easy pool for hours. We also caught a cab into Sigatoka with a really nice driver we befriended and then booked for a day to take us to nadi as well.
If you hire a nanny, be clear about your expectations of how active you want her to be.
It is so expensive here, I was constantly surprised. But you just need to get food and refreshments outside. Sigatoka is a funny little town but we bought good fruit at the market and takeaway curry at rajs.
Get used to air on being on all the time. It was quite noisy in our room.

There is something for everyone. Great for families/groups/couples. Loads of activities or do nothing lying by the pool or beach with the bar not too far away.
The beds are huge and extrememly comfortable.
There was a group of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed it.
A good selection of food outlets. Or not too far to eat outside.

We were so hesitant of going to the Shangri-la in Fiji after reading so many negative reviews but we had nothing to worry about! We had the perfect stay, a great room overlooking the lagoon, the meal package for dinner was great as kids could eat early for free and then we would drop them to kids club for a disco or a movie then the adults could go to one of the restaurants for dinner! It is a bit dated but had an authentic fijian feel which we liked. We absolutely loved it and the kids had a great time - we will be back for sure! Some things were on fiji time, but what do you expect? If you go expecting to relax and unwind and have a good time you won't be disappointed. Bula and Vinaka Shangri-la, we will be back!

Room Tip: If you have kids stay in the lagoon view rooms - we had a superior lagoon view room which was in a g...
