“2nd time back at Sonaisali resort”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

This was my second trip to this resort I must say such a different experience from our first trip we were married there in June and I must say Sally was amazing could never have dreamed of a more beautiful wedding and the staff were unbelievable but one our second trip my husband and I were not treated the same, some of the staff were quite rude to us and our friends that we made on our first trip were also treated badly by management on the island. we were question about what we were doing and where we were going It felt like we were criminals to the extend of our family friend being our driver was even questioned about where he was taking us. I had booked for Christmas with 35 of us planning to come back but after the experience we got this time I am now reconsidering the resort we will stay at!!! there is no need to treat us that way we came back just to relax but the whole time we were being watched and questioned not a good experience at all

Bula Lea-anne,

Really appreciate your feedback, especially as it’s provided us with an opportunity to respond to your queries in advance of your next planned visit.

We were thrilled at your response to your lovely June wedding at Sonaisali, and we look forward to replicating the same level of service and attention to detail once again in December.
Lea-anne we sincerely apologise for any misunderstanding created during your most recent visit in relation to security issues raised by some staff members.

As you would be aware, the Resort is situated on a 110acre private island, with an additional mainland holding. Public access to the island is restricted for security purposes. It is deeply regretted if any staff member appeared over-zealous in relation to carrying out their duties in this regard.

We also hasten to explain that the Naisali taxi base on the mainland is privately owned and operated and is not connected with the Resort.

I am aware that Customer Care Sereana has been in contact with you separately in relation to your December arrangements and I would invite you to also contact me directly if I may be of further assistance in this regard.

Once again, please let me assure you that our dedicated Sonaisali Team will do everything possible to ensure that your next visit is as friendly and Welcoming as the first visit your initial experience of our Resort.

I will also look forward to meeting with you personally during your stay.

Warm regards,

Jan McGrath
Executive Director.

Sonaisali resort was the first stop on our south pacific group tour. We were there for three nights and did not want to leave. The island is so peaceful and the views are incredible. The restaurant is a little pricey but the food quality is very good. There are several watersports available that are free. My daughter enjoyed the horseback ride around the island. I would not call the accommodations upscale but the rooms were very large and clean. The pool is very large and very cold. I sincerely hope that I can return to Fiji someday.

Bula,

Many thanks for taking the time to post your very positive review.

We’re delighted that you were able to enjoy a range of Activities during your brief 3-night stay, including our unique and ever-popular horse-riding excursion throughout our 110acre tropical island Paradise.

We very fortunate on Sonaisali in that all accommodation features lovely ocean vistas , with views out over the neighbouring island group.

We thank you for highlighting our “very large and clean” Fijian-style bure accommodation and delightful swimming pool.

We also hope that you will be able to return to Fiji and to our Resort at some future time – and for a longer stay.

Thank you for choosing Sonaisali and for sharing your comments on-line.

Warm tropical regards,
Jan McGrath

Hotel could do better with cleaning the swimming pool, less mosquitoes in hotel rooms and flies constantly disturbing you at the breakfast buffet and corals that hurt your feet while swimming or playing at the beach. Wasn't a very pleasant stay, but was happy with a free upgrade to a spa room.

Bula,

We are, naturally, disappointed with your short review, but remain heartened by the fact that you were happy with your complimentary upgrade to Spa Beachfront Bure accommodation category.

All Guest feedback is taken very seriously by Management of the Resort and we thank you for your contribution in this regard.

I think that you have raised an excellent point in relation to coral on the beach, and will endeavour to ensure that the staff responsible for beach clearing remain additionally vigilant in clearing away all sharp shells/coral which are regularly deposited with incoming tides.

The tropics, unfortunately, are home to most species of the world’s insect population, are not quite so easily controlled, despite our best endeavours, particularly in an alfresco environment.

Sincere apologies that we failed to meet expectation in this instance. I would liked to have had an opportunity to meet with you and perhaps ameliorate some of your concerns whilst you remained on property.

Kind regards,
Jan McGrath

Well where do i start, Jess and i chose Sonaisali for our once in a lifetime wedding experience and boy did they out do and exceed our expectations. The wedding itself was something out of a fairytale, everything was well thought out and planned perfectly through to and throwing emails back and forth from my Wife Jess and Sally the wedding coordinator. Sally did an exceptional job with the organising of our special fijian wedding. All the staff at Sonaisali were very friendly and always happy and helpful went out of there way to meet our needs. A BIG THANK YOU again to Sally and the Staff at Sonaisali.
We even forgot our wedding cake left overs in the Cooler at Sonaisali when we disembarked on our Honeymoon, so again Sally goes out of her way to bring our cake to us along with our professional photos the day we arrive back on the mainland. Jess really felt like a princess marrying the Prince on Sonaisali..

Lastly as part of our wedding package we were treated to their famous 9course meal in their award winning restaurant, this was the most lovely food experience we had ever had - amazing and so worth the money.

Bula Jess & Tim,

We were delighted to host your beautiful Wedding. Wedding Co-Coordinator extraordinaire Sally sends personal greetings and sincere thanks on behalf of all of our dedicated Sonaisali staff for your great comments.

The warmth and friendliness you experienced at our Resort is frequently highlighted on-line.

That Sally would go that extra mile in personally delivering your photos and cake upon your return to the mainland comes as no surprise, given the attention to detail considered “normal” on Sonaisali.

Many thanks also for your generous comments in relation to the Resort’s Plantation Fine Dining Restaurant. Plantation has certainly firmly established it’s well-deserved reputation for excellence amongst appreciative Guests.

Lastly, thank you for taking the time to share your enthusiastic feedback. Successful accounts of our interaction with Guests is a fantastic morale booster amongst the Resort’s hard-working staff. Vinaka.

Best wishes for all of us for a wonderful and happy future together.

We hope to able to Welcome you back to Sonaisali – perhaps for an Anniversary visit at some time in the future.

Warmest regards,
Jan McGrath & Team Sonaisali

What an awesome place to stay and relax! The pool and pool bar and the beach front lounging is superb. The food was fine and buffet was well maintained. The employees are great, but could tell management is on their butts. I'm sure most places have strong management except the workers are not, and shouldn't be, bitter about it.
Activities were expensive, especially the ones the actual resort offered. I still recommend the surf trip they offer!

Bula Philly,

Fantastic to hear our Resort described as an “awesome” place to stay.!

Vinaka!

You clearly enjoyed our huge pool, Pool Bar and Tale Bar Lounge areas.

Many thanks for your mention of the Resort’s cuisine and “well maintained” buffet presentations
Not sure which particular “management” staff you considered lackadaisical, but please let me assure you - we’re a very hard-working Team on Sonaisali, including behind the scenes in this very busy Resort.

Despite the fact you considered our competively priced Activities expensive your surfing trip clearly hit the mark. As you would now be aware, some of the world’s most famous surfing sites, including Cloudbreak, are situated a short distance from Sonaisali’s private Marina.
Overall great posting – and we thank you for it.

Hope to see you back here for more surfing at some time in the future.

Tropical regards,
Jan McGrath

Sonaisali was the perfect holiday getaway for my boyfriend and me. We spend two great weeks on this serene island and everybody of staff and crew made our holiday the best we've ever had. After working 10 months straight we decided on a real holiday. We were shown several locations in our price range but somehow our gut-feeling always brought us back to Sonaisali, even after the travel agent showed us other, presumably better resorts...we were just smitten with Sonaisali.
And we were rewarded. When we got there, we were greeted by security staff on the mainland, who showed us to the boat. Just travelling over this small stretch of water, we felt that we would have one of the most special and relaxing holiday spots. On the other side of the river a nice staff member carried our bags to reception where we were greeted so warmly that we felt quite home.
We had ordered an ocean view bure, which was (by no fault of the resort) next to many screaming children. After our second night we arrived for breakfast, where the attentive customer care attendant must have seen that something was the matter. As we didn't really want to complain about anything in this great resort she took everything out of our hands by offering us a beach front bure, with spa far away from all the screaming kids. After that the holiday just got better an better. The snorkelling trip was beautiful and thanks to Dan we got so much great information about the surroundings and fijian lifestyle. All three meals were fabulous. The couples indulgence massage on the beach was just heavenly and the pool always nice and clean.
The resort looks just like on the pictures and the people are just so nice, attentive and chatty that you can't help but love them.
It was great to be rewarded so much for ones "gut-feeling", but we are so glad we had the opportunity to spend 14 days in this beautiful resort. Thanks so much to the Sonaisali staff!

Lovely review Claudia, and we thank you most sincerely for it.

You will not be surprised to learn that Sonaisali has developed a very long Returnee Guest List, for precisely the reasons you have touchingly reiterated. Even though we are a medium sized Resort, our focus remains firmly on personalised service. Many Guests comment that on Sonaisali, Guests are always enthusiastically greeted by name.

We’re delighted that you enjoyed your snorkelling seafari to the outer reef under the watchful gaze of Dan, that you appreciated the Resort cuisine and indulged in a beachfront alfresco massage (great choice!)

You obviously made the most of your fourteen day stay and as always, our wonderful staff returned threefold the warmth and friendship you personally exuded. Vinaka.

A special Bula Vinaka from Customer Care Sereana, whom remembers you, and whom looked after you so very well.

We hope to have the opportunity of Welcoming you back at some time in the future.
Very best wishes from all of us.

My partner and I had an amazing holiday at the sonaisali the staff were so friendly and accommodating nothing was too much trouble. The highlight for us was dinner at the Plantaion fine dinning wich I would easily rate as high as Perth's top Resteraunt Amuse! the food was divine staring from the fresh made bread the food keept just getting better and better with every course and the staff were so knowledgable of the menu and wine list we didn't want to eat anywhere else! The resort made it so easy to keep busy with all the activities and Rosie's tourist info and booking located in the hotel. Lounging around the pool was also made pleasant with the awesome cocktails and the laid back atmosphere, we really appreciated that it wasn't to commercialised! Overall we had a wonderful stay and we will hopefully be back again!

Bula Amber,

Great review Amber, and especially appreciated your comments in relation to the Resort’s Plantation Fine Dining Restaurant. Accolades simply keep rolling in for the venue and although I’ve never had the pleasure of experiencing your Perth-based favourite Amuse, I’m sure the comparison with Plantation is a wonderful compliment.

Sonaisali’s ideal location, being so close to the mainland, not to mention the multitude of Activities available directly from our private Marina, provides a wide range of Activities as you’ve pointed out, although many Guests prefer to simply relax poolside and soak up our wonderful tropical sunshine.

And yes. We actively promote an authentic Fijian ambience around the Resort, from our predominantly bure-style accommodation, through to a genuine pride and warmth in hospitality synonymous with the country’s culture and traditions.

Wonderful to hear that we may have an opportunity of Welcoming you back to Sonaisali at some future date.

Kind regards,
Jan McGrath
