This resort has a great fijian feel to it. If you want a homogenous tourist experience then i would go to either the Gold Coast or Denaru. Sonaisali offers a laid back, relaxing fiji time holiday. The staff at the resort are warm and genuine, and really make you feel welcome from the time we set foot on the boat to go over from the mainland. They made such a fuss of our son, eg included him in the meke, and always had a chat. It is a great place to bring the family.
The location is great, as its close to the airport and nadi, but is far enough away to be quiet and relaxing. The pool is fantastic, our son lived in it, and its big enough even during busy times. We did a number of the activities, the sunset cruise is excellent, as is the turtle rock snorkelling. The river cruise is ok, the firewalking display was excellent. The village tour is a wonderful, humbling experience. Don't miss the meke (traditional fijian singing and dancing). The people from the local village are such natural and talented performers. We had pre booked a cruise from Denaru but next time we would do the full day one from sonaisali - much quieter and the staff seem to know the good spots to go to.
We tried the various dining options except the plantation restaurant. I thought that overall, the food was very good. Remember, this is fiji, sometimes the food may take a little while to come but it always does. If you're in a rush then the buffet is good, though go early. The breakfast is very good, the fresh omelettes or pancakes are superb. We've had seafood at many restaurants including pricey ones in sydney - it is just as good here. The tale bar is a great place to kick back in the shade during the day, they are more than happy for you to plonk there in boardies between dips in the pool.
We stayed in a bure, overall it was very comfortable. The bed was fine, the verandah was large with a great view. If you were right down the end it could be a long walk, but that would be preferable to being on top of one another, or having no view.
I just hope the resort doesn't grow any more and lose its unique character. We booked through myFiji and got a great deal.

Wow! What a great review! On behalf of Management and staff of Sonaisali, we thank you most sincerely for taking the time to post your wonderful feedback.
You’ve certainly identified the key points which sets our Resort apart from its corporate competitors: namely, our genuine Fijian feel, warmth and pride in delivering personalised hospitality. On Sonaisali, Guests are called by their names, not room number.
The Resort is, as you say, a great family destination, and it is typical that your young son would be invited to participate in the village meke (song and dance) performance. What a great opportunity for youngsters to experience authentic Fijian culture at first hand.
The Resort’s location, just a short drive from Nadi international airport and a mere 300 metres off the main island is also unique. As you pointed out, on Sonaisali, you can relax and be as private as you wish, or you can make every day an adventure by exploring the many delights of the main island, including nearby Port Denarau, just 20 minutes drive away.
You clearly enjoyed the many Activities on offer from the Resort, with the Sunset Cruise aboard our 35ft luxury catamaran being a highlight.
We thank you for your praise in relation to our “very good” cuisine, with special reference to our standard of seafood equalling that of superior Sydney Restaurants. Breakfast favourites in your estimation ranked as “superb”. Vinaka
We’re pleased that you found refuge in the comfort of the Tale Bar during the heat of the day, with our staff being as accommodating as always in ensuring your requirement was met.
Many Guests enjoy our bure-style accommodation and comment as you did on the large decks and great ocean views. Our year-round tropical climate lends itself both to the spacious accommodation style and relaxed island lifestyle.
Please let me assure you that Management and Staff are committed to maintaining a very personalised feel to the property and are committed to delivering a unique holiday experience to our Guests, regardless of the size of the Resort.
We are absolutely delighted to learn that you enjoyed such a wonderful stay at our Resort, and hope that we will have an opportunity of Welcoming you back at some time in the future.
Vinaka Vakalevu from all of us for your very generous comments.
