“Good location... but no 24 hours coffee shop....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2009

Hotel is situated in a good location... Rooms are getting modernized and it should be good in the coming months.

There is no 24 hours coffee shop which makes it bad as there are no places near by and main city is 20 mins drive.

Policy of internet usage sucks as if you pay for 1 day and logged out, you have to get a new login. I had to keep my laptop on so that it doesnt logs out.

Well above our expectations!

We were really put off the hotel based on the comments on this website about the refurbishment. We ran out of time to find an alternative, so showed up at the hotel with some apprehension.

I have to say we were really impressed. The refurbishment is complete!

The hotel itself is right on the water, although there is no sandy beach. Not sure about swimming in the ocean either, but the pool is right there anyway.

Lami Bay is quite beautiful with moored yachts and picturesque islands. The pool / bar / restaurant area is really nice, tastefully decorated with quality furnishings. There is a laid back atmosphere and lovely cooling breeze. The rooms are a little small, but well appointed.

The food in the restaurant was delicious - the marinated raw fish entree is a must have! The service was a little slow, but hey everyone was on 'island time' anyway.

Definitely recommended.

This Hotel is undergoing MAJOR renovations which were meant to be completed in June. They won't be completed for a few months more I'm sure. Hotel has temporary restaurant/bar, reception desk and no outside pool area. Rooms are scant. Restaurant and beveredge menu is poor. Check to see if renovations are complete before staying. Once it becomes tghe new Novotel, it will be great!!

My husband and I stayed here in July 09. They were in the middle of a complete rebuild of the hotel and there was nothing available except the room we stayed in. The lobby, pool and restaurant were a complete building site with all the associated dust, noise and disruption. In our room neither the TV nor the fridge worked, and there were many other unhappy customers. They had a young girl in her 20s on the front desk taking all the flack. This is an Accor/Novotel hotel and they should be ashamed of themselves for opening when the building is so unfinished.

It is always so nice to start out my trips in Fiji by staying here - the staff are incredible - always remember your name & make you feel as though it is really nice to see you again. I was so amazed this time - I was taken to my room and there was a gorgeous display on one of the beds in the room - WELCOME BACK was spelled out in letters cut from palm and in the center were gorgeous tropical flowers!!! What a way to greet someone coming back - it was awesome!
The hotel is in the final phases of renovation & should be completed in a month or two - construction did not disturb me & the view at the Tradewinds is lovely...my room faced the sea - the dining room is an open design so you are looking at the sea & feeling the breezes. Very enjoyable!
The best part though is that you feel as though you are part of the staffs family.
Pool is very nice as well.

I stayed in this hotel a few times in 2005 and 2006. I am a former Fiji resident born in Suva but now an Australian resident.
With no family and friends remaining and being nostalagic in returning to the city of my birth, i came to Suva, from Nadi.

I stayed in this hotel for two reasons: One it was the first hotel, I saw coming to Suva (located at Lami on the outskirts of Suva) and second, It had a very good price outside(something like $60 Fijian per nite)

Overall, I was highly impressed by the standards of the rooms. The rooms were a good size with good A/C. The lounge area was quite but very impressive where you could have a beer (reasonable price) while admiring the views to Mosquito islands.

For the price, its a fantastic bargain and for people who know Suva hotels, this hotel is miles ahead in value for money.

Few things were average. Staff are reasonable. Dont assume that they will talk to you and give you info about Suva. They are there to do a job and thats all they will do.

Its a few Km's to the city centre so expect a $10 one way trip. If you are game enough, you may wish to catch the blue passenger buses (open windows) for a few dollars.

I did not try any cuisine as Suva is the restaurant capital of the South Pacific. Expect good food especially Indian and Chinese at very very good rates.

Overall my impressions: ( 2years old)

Bula ,

Thank you for your comments regarding your December stay. It is great that you enjoyed your stay.

As you would have seen, the hotel is currently undergoing renovations and it is progessing well. The first accommodation wing is planned to be online early April with the hotel lobby in mid May.

Again, I thank you for your comments and I would like to welcome you back to the Hotel in the near future.

Kind regards,

Brian Townsend
