“Wouldn't stay anywhere else”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2007

I hadn't been to Fiji before but my husband had years ago, we mainly chose this hotel because we had a 2 year old and it was a nice short flight (3.5 hours) and a 20 minute drive to the resort from Nadi airport. We scoured the reviews here first and we thought it was going to be the newest resort in the area.
The first day got off to a rocky start, when we got to immigration in Fiji, there was a huge queue in about 30 degree humidity, not a good combo with a toddler who hadn't slept on the flight, and me quite pregnant, although we got lots of sympathetic looks, no special treatment. After an hour waiting, about three from the front of the queue and the toddler screaming we got pulled to the front. Then another half an hour waiting for our luggage and stroller, then another 10 minute wait through customs. I was about ready to cry and go home, when we were greeted by our driver from the resort and the white 7 series air conditioned BMW. Thank God. It was cool an spacious, and he offered us cold water and towels from the cooler in the car. No baby seat, but they drive pretty slowly and it is rural roads so not too dangerous. Everyone's good mood was restored and all was well. When we got to the resort, we were settled into our room and told 'by the way there is no water for half an hour' since the islands water supply was being fixed or something. Turned out to be about 3 hours and I didn't get a shower that night. Also I quickly figured out that our room was not the beachfront we had booked. Instead it was right near the deli, so quite noisy wth the restaurant and band nearby and light all night. I was really upset but the manager sorted us out a beachfront the next day. Bit of a hassle moving since my husband had already unpacked everything. Also be aware that a "2 bedroom" meant for us two adjoining rooms (studio and one bedroom) however this is apparently bigger than an actual two bedroom so I didn't complain. The two heavy adjoining doors were a bit of a pain.
However from this point on I didn't have much to complain about. The staff are all so easygoing and genuinely friendly, the rooms are spectacularly new and well fitted - complete with washing machine and dryer ( a lifesaver), espresso machine and coffee (no time to figure out how to use it), dvds in each room, playstation, flat screen tvs, all brand new. The weather in winter was great - 29 degrees every day, the food in the restaurant Nuku and the deli were better than I expected although not cheap, probably priced the same as Sydney. The breakfast buffet (included) was fantastic, everything you could want, all eaten outside overlooking the ocean if you want. The deli also has pizzas which are pretty good and well priced. The pools are great, clean, new, with lots of seating and towels. Last week of school holidays we had no problem getting a nice possy. The spa and kids club and gym are makeshift but the service and facitlies excellent nonetheless. My husband and I both had fantastic massages there. My husband really liked the gym, although it is small there was hardly anyone there and it was new and clean and air conditioned with tv and towels and water.
The only things wrong were that we asked for a high chair for our room that didn't come for about three hours, too late for our son's dinner but it did eventually come after asking about 4 times. i recommend getting things from the beginning. Also the kids club has a severe lack of organised activities for younger kids. They do have activities but these are only 1/2 hour long most of the time and don't keep the kids amused all day. I would like to see a three hour kids club session twice a day.
The babysitters are cheap F$6 hour and pretty good although don't expect fully trained nannies. They love kids but are a bit lazy and not always really experienced with kids. OK mainly to watch the kids when you aren't around the pool or go out for dinner but not really for bathing feeding etc unless you are really trusting and not fussy. Most of the time they are cleaning staff that are finished for the day. Our nanny nearly scalded my son in the bath so supervision is essential.
There is a Denerau shuttle bus that is free and will take you to all the other resorts like the Sheraton, the Westin and the Sofitel. From what we saw were were well pleased that we had chosen the Hilton. They were all a bit tired except the Sheraton. This had an excellent restaurant "V". We would have gone back again but they were closed Sunday and Monday. Also "Hamacho" at the Westin has good Japanese.
Overall we didn't want to leave and I cried on the last night when the restaurant staff sang us a farewell song over dinner in the restaurant. When they finish this place (there is lots more scheduled, including restaurants etc) it will be out of sight, however it was hard to get a time frame on this out of anyone. Be aware when you go that it is unfinished and you will be ok.
We would definitely go back next year.

Being the newest resort on Denarau, I decided to book our honeymoon here. We did not know ahead of time that you can book the hotel's BMW's to come pick you up at the airport... so we had to take a taxi (cost ~$24FJD). We arrived very early in the morning, so I had booked the room for the previous night so that we could crash if we were exhausted.

We were greeted by the very nice concierge and front desk staff. The check in was quick and while we were waiting, the concierge loaded up our bags on a cart and another lady brought us virgin mojitos and cold towels. I've never been greeted like that at any hotel! It was quite refreshing! The concierge took us to our room and brought up the bags and showed us the features of the room. We walked in and were amazed by the room and the view. The staff left us a very nice note welcoming us on our honeymoon as well as a small box of fijian lotion, soap, and oil.

The room was very nice. The floors are all tiled. The bathroom had a shower stall with a fabulous adjustable rainfall showerhead. Beside it was the toilet. They were serviced by a sliding frosted glass door. There was also a very nice tub that divided the bathroom space with the room space. The vanity was nice, but could have used more direct lighting overhead. The sliding walls of the bathroom were very unique, so you could blow dry your hair or get ready and not disturb your partner. There was a nice big hairdryer, robes, slippers, and yoga mats. They also left 2 bottles of fiji water for us twice.

The bed was very comfortable. There was a nice flat screen TV, dvd player, and video game console. Although there was not a lot of space for putting away clothes, there was a small bit in the cabinent and also in the closet. There was a fridge/stocked mini bar, a very nice looking coffee maker, and an ice bucket (which they charge you to fill via room service).

There was a nice chaise lounge in the room. What we loved was the sliding glass door that pulled back most of the way so you had a room continous with the porch outside. There was another small couch, chair, footrest, and tables out here. A great place to get out of the sun or enjoy the sunrise in the morning.

The only complaint I had was our unregular housekeeping service. Even though we would leave the room in the morning with the sign on our door to service the room, they did not get around to it until after 3 or 4pm most days. Also, they did not refresh/replace the towels daily. Our big towels seemed to be replaced, or refolded, but not the handtowels or facecloths. That was a bit of a let down at a 5 star place. One morning they did have things done by 11am.

The amenities are wonderful. The breakfast in the morning, although pricey at $30 per person is worth it. There are eggs cooked to order, an array of fresh fruit, breads, juices, sausages, bacon, french toast, and a feature of the day. You could sit inside or out and enjoy the view of the beach and mountains. What better way to start the day? We went with the room tarrif that included breakfast in the price of the room, so all we had to do was pay for a tip. The pools are nice and inviting. The chaises are very comfy. I especially loved the pool with the infinity/waterfall. There is a dedicated children's pool which is not very deep, as well as 3 other pools of varying sizes. The service for drinks and food around the pool was best achieved if you went into the restaurant to order, then it was brought to you. Every now and then you could catch a waiter who was wandering around the pool to take your order. The drinks and food were at resort prices, but that seemed to be the norm for the island. There was a more modestly priced place to get sandwhiches and pizza near the front desk.

There were tons of fun activities daily, and the kids there took advantage. Pool volleyball, bike rides, rugby and volleyball on the beach, pool aerobics, and a nightly torch lighting ceremony. There was also a watersports hut on the beach where you could take out the non-motorized boats for free or pay for things like parasailing, jetskiing, and fishing. Make sure you check the tides if you book the catamaran, more than once they told us we could not take the boat out due to the low tide (there is a reef that becomes exposed that they do not want you to tear up).

Everyone around the resort was very helpful and extremely friendly. The excusion booking desk was very helpful at picking activities out for us. Very memorable experiences!

I would highly recommend this as a place to stay when you need some rest and relaxation. We had a wonderful honeymoon here!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2007

Our family (of 4 adults and one infant) stayed at the Hilton Fiji Resort for eight days in May 2007 and we were very impressed with almost every aspect of the holiday.

We were met at the airport by a Hilton Fiji represntative, who took all our luggage (5 suitcases and a baby buggy) to two BMW transfer cars that the resort provides. The BMW cars were both brand new (one 7 series and one 3 series wagon) and they were in perfect condition. They had also remembered to bring the carseat that I had specially requested for my daughter.

The drive from the airport to the resort is only 20 minutes.

On arrival at the resort, we checked in at the temporary reception and were shown to our two bedroom beachfront villa. The villa was 5 star - with at least three plasma TV's, Bose stereo, playstation, DVD player, kitchen with cooktop etc. Our only complaints would be that there were no teatowels in the kitchen and no dishwashing liquid (not that we were expecting to wash the dishes, but we often wanted some to clean my daughters bottles and plates etc).

The villa was well appointed, and even included a BBQ on the deck (which the staff came to clean up after we had used it).

The cot we had ordered was in the room, however we needed to ask again for a highchair to be provided in the room. This was delivered very quickly.

The pool complex at the hotel is divine - the best in Fiji (we have been to Fiji at least 10 times before and stayed at most of the other resorts on Denerau).

We didn't manage to get to the Spa, but the kids club was lovely and clean and very well equipt. The staff seemed good, however my daughter was too young to leave there alone (children need to be over three years to be left at the Kids Club without a parent or nanny). Nannies can be hired from the resort, and alhtough we didn't get one, I heard that they were all good.

The resort was very quite when we were there (only 30% occupancy) so we never had a problem getting a table at breakfast or dinner. The only restaurant at the moment is called NUKU. It is fine for the buffet breakfast, but we weren't that impressed with the dinners there, and ate outside the resort in the evenings. More restaurants are supposedly opening at the Hilton in 2008.

We often got lunch at the little deli, which did great gelato's and fresh fruit smoothies.

The room servicing was great the first few days, but on later days during the stay I needed to call around 2pm to ask them to come and service the room. All items in the fridge are complimentary (I think we got 2 cans of Coke, Sprite, Orange Juice and Beer each day), although we didn't really drink much of it.

In general, we loved the resort, although we are looking forward to there being more restaurants when we go back. We also felt that the water sports were lacking compared to other resorts (the jet ski was broken etc) however we didn;t really want to use that stuff anyway, so it didn't really detract from our holiday.

  • Liked — Quality of room - plasma TV, bose stereo; pool complex, kids club, BMW airport transfers
  • Disliked — Lack of restaurant options

Our family (2 adults; 2 kids) stayed at this resort for two nights at the end of our holiday. The positives were as follows:
Our deluxe family villa (actually two villas with adjoining doors) was 5 star all the way from the subtle elegant decor; the brand new everything including full self catering facilities e.g. washing machine, dryer, microwave, fridge etc; the huge bathrooms; the 4 flatscreen TV's; the playstation and a shared plunge pool (which we had all to ourselves because there was noone in the Villa next door). The resort is peaceful (vs the Sofitel which was very busy when we visited). The pools (all 5 of them in a row) are lovely. The view from our room was nice. Breakfast in the restaurant was high quality. Our 7 year old son participated in the evening fire lighting ceremany as a warrier and he had a ball.
The negatives: The non breakfast food in the restaurant was hit and miss, a limited lunch menu and one great dinner (steak), one horrible dinner (burnt fish). There is only one restaurant (Nuku) and no where in the room literature does it advise guests that you need to book for dinner. Arguably I guess you could assume that as a given but we had walked up on a Friday night at 6.30pm with no problems, ditto for breakfast so when we actually checked early Sat afternoon that dinner at 6.30pm would be OK, we were told it was fully booked until 8.30pm and with two kids that timing wasn't going to work. There is no where else to go at the resort. The concierge helped us get a table at The Sofitel Restaurant V. This is their fine dining restaurant and we thought it was better than the Hilton, the prices were pretty much identicial. Our room wasn't serviced on the Sat, we had to call Reception at 4pm and they sent housekeeping around. Apparently the contents of the fridge were free of charge but this wasn't communicated anywhere. Overall I think the Resort is a good 5 star option in terms of Denaru, we preferred the island but if you want a more traditional resort style holiday you would probably be very happy here.

My husband and I stayed at the Fiji Beach Resort & Spa for our wedding and honeymoon.

From our arrival at 6am in the morning, we loved the resort. Their attention to detail, from the cool, refreshing drink on arrival to freshly picked flowers in our room everyday, was exactly what we were after.

All the staff were friendly, and accommodated all our needs - we even had a staff member as one of our witnesses for our wedding ceremony.

Our wedding was perfection - the resort worked with our wedding co-ordinator to create a beautiful beachfront scene where our wedding took place.

During our 10 day stay, we visited the other resorts on Denaurau, and found that Nuku was by far the best restaurant for quality, service and value.

My husband and I also visited the Spa on a number of occasions - my husband had a massage on the morning of our wedding - and the friendly staffs' professionalism was outstanding.

We are planning on returning to the Fiji Beach Resort & Spa in the future, to show our family the paradise where our life started together.

Recently my husband and I spent the last three nights of our honeymoon at the Fiji Spa and Resort. After spending a week on the beautiful island of Castaway we were quite let down by the standard of the Hilton resort. In hindsight we should have known it would not be to the normal "Hilton" standard as the name does imply that it is "MANAGED by Hilton". When we arrived the staff were quick to let us know that the foyer is temporary and that when we come again next the new one will be complete. I hate to say we won;t be back to stay at the Hilton. We looked at the Sofitel next door and this is where we will stay next time.
The rooms have rising damp and the shower/toilet door is very freaky!
The resort is very wet in some places but you have to expect this in a tropical climate.
The resort has only one resturant and the choice is limited. I knew before i went to Fiji, i knew that drinks would be expensive and if you look you will find you can bring a substantial amount of alcohol into Fiji which is what we did and it kept the costs down considerably.
The resort is nice but not worth the money. If you want clean sandy beaches then you don;t stay on the mainland of Fiji but go to any of the Islands you will get a much better Fijian experience.
