“A hotel of contrasts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2011 via mobile

We returned from our trip today. We loved Fiji but have mixed feelings about the Fiji beach and spa resort managed by Hilton. Firstly, the location was great. It is close to Port Denarau where plenty of tour operators are offering excursions. The resort is clean and well laid out. We stayed in a studio beachfront room which was perfect for a couple. The room was well presented and had a view onto the beach. The pools are also great, we were worried that kids would be an issue but we were never bothered by any. The resort also offers excursions by adrenalin Fiji, we used the kayaks and also did the jet ski safari which was a great experience.
Our major problems were with the food and service. The service at times was unacceptable, usually at breakfast and lunch. We ate every morning at Nuku. Some days we were offered coffee and juice, other days, no coffee appeared. During lunch we were often finding that the service was poor. This ranged from waiting over 30 minutes for our food when the restaurant was practically empty and receiving our cheque without being asked whether we wanted anything else. Usually the cheque arrived before we finished our meal. In contrast, the Nuku restaurant in the evening couldn't more different! The staff were a delight and the food was excellent, it was like night and day! On our last evening the staff at the restaurant sung their traditional farewell song, it was beautiful!
Overall we enjoyed our stay at the hotel, most of the staff were incredibly friendly, we were greeted with a 'bula' by everybody we met. We will return to Fiji but doubt we will return to this hotel.

Dear Stephmcmillan,
Thank you very much for choosing the Fiji Beach Resort & Spa, managed by Hilton for your stay.
I was glad to read your comments about the friendliness of the team and your enjoyable dinners at Nuku restaurant. A tremendous amount of efforts have been put into enhancing the guest experience for dinner in Nuku, from new menu, new crockery, and of course a considerable amount of training for the team.
However, I also realize from your feedback that breakfast and lunch need the same attention, particularly from a consistency of service point of view. We are indeed in the process of reviewing all standards for these two meals, as well as menus and buffet selection, in order to deliver a similarly enjoyable experience. I would also like to take this opportunity to apologize for the inconvenience and unfortunate situation that have taken place during your stay.
I hope you will give us another opportunity to enjoy the type of service and quality that you expect and deserve from a Hilton resort, in which case I would like to invite you to contact me personally prior to your stay.
Best regards,
Frederic

Just stayed at the Hilton for 4 nights. Hotel is truely beautiful - just as described in brochure which is rare. Staff are fantastic, wonderful Fiji hospitality. Room was a lovely beachfront room with balcony (beautifully decorated). Pools are fantastic - enough pools to have kids playing in some and adults chilling in others. Beach is nice but not really one you would lie down on for the day but there are plenty of day trips you can do to visit more beautiful beaches. We did the Robinson Crusoe Island Day/Night Combo. Would really recommend doing this. We got picked up at half 8 in the morning and got dropped back to the hotel and 11pm. Full day on a beautiful island doing snorkling, kayaking, crab racing, volley ball all with local Fijians. Day activities were followed by an evening show with fire dancing and traditional cava ceremony - fantastic. The Hilton has a tour desk you can book with or you can book with a tour company at Denarau Port. The Port is a 20minute walk, 5minute taxi ride or 10minute bus ride. The Hilton restaurants are beautiful, but if you cant afford to eat at the hotel everyday and evening the port is perfect for going out for a more affordable meal - curries, pizzas, fish restaurants etc. Would highly recommend staying at the Hilton. We are a young company who enjoyed some relaxed luxury but the hotel also appeared very family friendly and there were lots of activities put on for children to keep everyone amused.

Dear EnglandLan,
Thank you very much for choosing the Fiji Beach Resort & Spa, managed by Hilton for your stay.
Your review highlights some of the key features of the resort, but it is the part reg. the team and the hospitality that particularly caught my attention. It is indeed rewarding for the team to read this kind of comments, as we live and breathe hospitality and guest satisfaction.
I was also glad to learn that a number of the recent amendments/additions to the resort have started to bring positive changes to the guest experience.
Once again, thank you for your comments, and we all look forward to being your 1st choice for your next visit to Fiji.
Best regards,
Frederic

We stayed at the Hilton for one night before transferring to one of the smaller islands.
It is a beautiful resort (see my photos) and the buildings, grounds and pools are all of a very high quality.
We had an apartment with interconnecting rooms. We arrived latish (9 pm) and the connecting door was not open. We went to the main restaurant for dinner and returned to find the door still not open. By this stage is was very late and we needed to put our two small children to bed, however it took two more calls to have the door opened.
That was the only bad experience however - the rooms are very spacious and the large bath is divine. Gorgeous bath products too. Our room was a little noisy at peak times as we were right next to reception, however I think we were probably put here as we were only staying for 1 night and booked via a cheap deal on Expedia.
The breakfast buffet was very nice, although the meals in the main restaurant are quite pricey. The apartments are set up for self catering with big fridges so if I was staying for longer I'd probably buy some supplies in Nandi town so not every meal needed to be in the restaurants.
The swimming pools are big and beautiful and the beach seems nicer than that at a couple of other Denerau resorts.
The staff were all very friendly, they just operate on Fiji time! We had some troubles with the airline misplacing our luggage and the resort and boutique staff were very helpful in helping us source some resort wear for the interim.
The hotel is very close to the marina so it's quite convenient if you are transferring on to the Mamanuca or Yasawa islands.

Dear Louche,
Thank you very much for your review of the Fiji Beach Resort & Spa, managed by Hilton. It is my understanding that you have had a short, yet enjoyable stay with us.
I would like to apologize for the incident with the connecting door – we are about to implement a tracking system for all guest requests that will ensure that unfortunate incidents like these do not reoccur.
I would also like to take this opportunity to stress that the location of your room was not dictated by the kind of rate that you booked.
Thank you once again – the team and I look forward to your next visit to Fiji.
Best regards,
Frederic

we celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary with this resort and it was sensational. We had a one bedroom beach front unit and it was just like the brochure described. The staff were wonderful and made us feel really special .The band played our favourite song which we danced to, it was fantastic. The meals were great and inexpensive by australian standards.Happy hours were great get one and get one free. Can recommend the beachside massage was out of this world.Loved the bula buses, cheap to travel around the other resorts, and the port. Cheap dinner and drinks at the port.Went to Plantation Island for the day and was worth the trip. Can recommend getting a lim to and from the airport loved it .Be careful with the hounding when shopping at Nadi and shop around before buying. Went on a day trip which incuded the secret gardens and a village tour which we found a very humbling experince.Whendoing Nadi can recommend the Bulla Cafe for morning & afternoon tea or lunch. they are just over the bridge as you enter the town , Gloria Jeans is also mid way on the right hand side of the main street of the town . Taxis are cheap to town and drivers very helpful . Loved it loved it loved it we will be going back . PS mens clothes are cheap especiaaly Ralph Polo .

My husband and I stayed at the Fiji Resort and Spa for 3 nights in August 2011. I was expecting quite a luxurious hotel but I was quite disappointed. We stayed in a beachfront studio room which was nice but quite compact. The restaurant was OK but breakfast was a bit of a bun fight. We started going much later for breakfast so that the crowds had died down and the staff had time to clear the tables. The meals and drinks were quite expensive at the bar and restaurant so we went to the Marina in the evenings to eat. I found the hotel quite impersonal and there were mostly families staying there. There were a coupple of minor probelms with the room and it took 3 phone calls to get someone to assist us. It was noisy early in the morning with children running up and down the corridor from 5.30 am. i think we were a bit spoilt as we had stayed at the Lomani Resort on Malalo Lailai for the previous 7 nights which was paradise. The main reason for staying in Denerau was to see some of the main island and have more activites. I enjoyed Denarau and the marina and it was nice to have choices of places to eat and drink. We did have a look around some of the other hotels and they all seem much the same. If you really want to see the idyllic side of Fiji I think you need to go to the outer islands, Denerau was fine but the beaches and the atmosphere was no where near as good as Malalo Lailai.

Absolutely loved our stay at this hotel. It was our second time in Fiji, and first at this hotel (previous stay was at the Westin just next door).

Main reason for choosing the hotel was the room formats being more apartment style than hotel room. We were travelling with 2 young kids (2 and almost 4) at the time, and having a large 2 bedroom apartment style really made the difference.

There is a full size fridge (not a mini bar size), full kitchen with hotplates, microwave, coffee machine, dishwasher and all crockery and utensils. Washer and dryer in the bathroom were great and we would definitely take about half the clothes next time and just wash mid way through. There is even a BBQ on the balcony which was great for a quick sausage sizzle for the kids dinner.

The fridge is stocked with mini bottles of Fiji water and milk for each person every day complimentary.

There is a supermarket at the Port Denaru, but prices are much higher as it is aimed at tourists. Best advice is to grab a taxi to the main town (about $15 Fiji Dollars) and go to the supermarket there. We stocked up on lots of goodies and snacks for the kids, as well as bottled water soft drinks.

Tip for parents- take a lunch box or other container with you to breakfast and pack a little lunch for the kids. The staff are totally fine with it, and to be honest about half the other tables were doing the same thing.

The kids club is fantastic, and they also run activities for older kids as well. The program runs all day to keep them entertained, and they do everything from pool games and fish feeding to cooking classes and movies at night after dinner.

I highly recommend making use of the nanny services. We used a nanny that friends had used previously, but all of them are great and operate through the hotel. Prices are fixed and many are staff that work at the hotel during the day. When we travelled, the cost was $8 Fiji dollars for 1 child or $12 for 2 per hour. This came out to around $7 Aussie dollars per hour for babysitting. It let us go out for dinner at night, as well as get a bit of time to ourselves by the pool.

Pools at this hotel are just amazing. There are 6 infinity pools of varying depths, and plenty of room for everyone. One is supposed to be an adults only pool, but that wasn't really bing enforced.

Some kids can be a little on the loud side, but that is to be expected on any holiday. Most parents were very considerate and attentive if there kids were getting out of hand.

Service can be a little slow as things are on 'Fiji Tim', but really is is not a big deal.

Breakfast can be a little busy, as the restaurant can't hold the entire hotel at once. You usually only have to wait 5-10 minutes for a table at the most, and even then it is in peak times.

Weather was great in May. We previously traveled in early March and you get the end of the wet season.

We have rebooked to go back to the hotel next year, and all I can say is that it is a great holiday for any family.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are waterfront at this hotel and it is basically one long line of unit blocks down...
