“Vanaka Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

My family & I had the recent pleasure of staying at the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa. From the very moment we arrived the warm welcome was like nothing we had ever experienced. Without exception every employee we came into contact with throughout our stay was genuine, friendly & uplifting. Australian hospitality has so much to learn from the Fijiian people. It was wonderful to see the General Manager visible every day, spending time with the guests and the staff and personally getting involved.
The hotel itself was beautiful, from the rooms to the outlets to the amazing pool and surrounds. All the little details are thought of and nothing is too much trouble.
Particular mention must go to the "activities" team. If you are travelling with children, these guys really do make your holiday special. Our thanks go to Eddie who was an absolute super star!
We cannot wait to return - it will without doubt become our regular holiday destination!

Just stayed for 7 nights mid April 2013. Overall a great resort, all inclusive with a comprehensive gift/souvenir shop (suprisingly cheaper than most), a convenience store (a rip off for drinks, chips, mags, etc) and 4 restaurants, multiple bars and a massive resort pool. Caters well for families and in particular kids. Sofitel rooms are acceptable with all modern facilities like room safe, comfy beds, reasonable decor, size, mini bar, etc, etc. This is Fiji 5 star so dont expect New York 5 star! We had an ocean view room. The rooms and resort are a little tired (not drastic, but tired) however acceptable. Kids club is OK (used it once and the kids didnt rave but didnt hate it either) and we used an in room baby sitter one night - you cant complain at FJ$8 an hour and they know theit stuff.

The resort is 10 mins away from Port Denarau by Bula Bus (tourist shuttle at approx FJ$8 per day per person unlimited or FJ$5 one way by cab) and is where all day cruises leave to the islands and is a shopping & restaurant hub. Unlike the Coral Coast, Denarau & the port allow you to get out of the resort
to eat something different or just escape the resort itself. The fiji people are so friendly and accomodating. They get it wrong from time to time but generally we found the service in the hotel good and were suprised by the 'fiji time' comments by some on tripadvisor.

Some other comments on activities and the area:
* Mana Island Day cruise (South Seas Cruises) is excellent. Pool for the kids, swim/snorkel, etc
* South Sea Island criuse is excellent
* Sigatoka River Safari an absolute must
* Nadi town - forget it - like downtown New Delhi

Great resort for families and couples. I wouldn't recommend for business, but who would want to work in fiji? Lol.
Staff were fantastic, and the kids club was the highlight of our trip. I was hesitant and feeling a little guilty about sending My 3 year old to kids club, but she wanted to keep going back, she even made friends who she played with outside of kids club as well!
The food in the restaurants and room service was ok, but the snacks at the cafe/bakery were fantastic.
The ladies in the spa were wonderful, but it was a little pricey. Try a spa outside of the resorts if you are on a budget, you will get the same quality but cheaper :)
The bar staff and the aqua aerobics was great, a must do.
Rooms were clean and everything was functioning well. They are a bit on the small side though.
All in all we had a fantastic holiday and I would recommend this resort.

The staff really treated us well. The wedding couldn't of gone better. Very happy with location and meal set up. We had a majical stay and wedding day. Bride felt disappointed to be charged more than double the price for hair than was on the spa price list. Charged $250 for hair when price list stated $120

We stayed in early April 2013 in an "executive suite". It was just an average room with a very ordinary looking bathroom. Did not try any of the food on site but the pool was one of the best I've seen for a place in this price range. It was also in close proximity to the marina where you can get anything from great meals to shopping (15 minute walk from the resort). The air conditioning in the rooms was inadequate as it was set to being locked so you couldn't change it and it was slightly noisy which affected sleep quality. The staff seemed ok but didn't have much dealings with them as we weren't using many of the facilities. But the pool gets top points.

Great location. Great friendly welcome by all staff but they are not trained according to 5 star Sofitel standards. Room was fine, not spotless but acceptable, despite not having toothbrushes, shaving kits, combs like every other sofitel hotel in the world.

Breakfast in the buffet area is a nightmare. Coffee is exactly like dishwater. It takes 15 minutes to get a cappuccino and the staff walk past dirty plates on the table. They have no idea of service and removal of mess. The layout is bizzare as bacon and hot food like sausages is on the wrong side, it should be near the egg station to avoid people wandering around everywhere. No shots or smoothies, very lousy fresh fruit make for a miserable breakfast. Noisy with kids running around it is not a pleasant experience.
Pool is beautiful and plenty of sun lounges complement a well kept garden area.

In the Foyer they allow a strict 30 minutes only per day access for complimentary wifi. This is quite mean and considering the distance from your room to the foyer this is some what an inconvenience and you have to wait a day to get your reply if sending business as you can't log on for 10 minutes and then 20 minutes at a later period. One log on per day is all they allow for free. Most hotels in the Sofitel or 5 star category around the world are more generous.

We grabbed a 7 day break in March. The wettest month of the year for Fiji. Overall the Sofitel is a large hotel experience. Not particularly memorable but nothing to fault in a major way. The rooms are comfortable but typical of a large resort. The pool loungers are the least comfortable I have ever sat on. Perhaps they have a cushion normally but during the wet season they remove them?
Denarau Island has the benefit of the Bula bus that circles the major hotels and the port which was our favourite eating destination. I would probably not go again but nothing really to complain about.
