“Overall a great experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

My partner and I stayed here for a week over Easter 2013. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience with the friendliest staff I have evere experienced.

The Good Points:
1. King sized bed which was extremely comfortable in a room with a fabulous ocean view.
2. Good facilities in bedroom with robes, slippers, ironing board, easy to use safe, sufficient power outlets located near mirrors (for those of us who blowdry hair/straighten - it is something that hotels often get wrong). disappointing that there were no herbal teas available (minor point but it IS a 5 star hotel),
3. Excellent champagne buffet breakfast with food constantly replenished and good choice to suit all tastes. - often a long queue for omelettes and delay for tea/coffee.
4. Music at breakfast and poolside during the day was a pleasant experience.
5. The staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble and everything was always with a smile.
6. We enjoyed the music in the Breeze Bar in the evenings and particularly happy hour where the bar staff always provided efficient, friendly service. A particular note that the Kornez band were excellent - disppointingly no music on Easter Sunday or Monday nights which I would have thought prime nights for entertainment in the Hotel which was fully booked.

The Bad Points:
1. Smell of paint in the bedroom/bathroom, staff remedied this with air freshener but it lingered for our stay.
2. Others have noted water pooling on the floor in the bathroom, this was also an issue for us and was an annoyance.
3. Bathrooms need updating as for a five star hotel the mould growth on the shower tiles was disappointing.
4. We had to constantly ask to have towels replenished and extra towels sent up, as well as replenishing shampoo etc. - This was however, always done promptly.
5. Uncomfortable loungers by the pool, definitely need cushions for these.
6. Wifi Internet was very difficult to access in the lobby where it was free, exorbitant rates for to use one of the 3 computers in the business centre which was a definite let down seen as my phone would not work while I was there. I was told that I had to ring the internet provider whenever I had an issue as sofitel could not deal with the issue directly. Poor.
7. We had the Indian/Pacific themed buffet dinner in the Lagoon restaurant one night, which we found to be extremely expensive given the quality of the food. This was a disappointment given the excellent quality of the breakfast buffet and put us off eating in the Lagoon for the remainder of our stay. Overpriced and bland with zero atmosphere.
8. We also had lunch in Salt Bar, the food here is again average for the prices paid, greasy and bland - potato wedges are not that difficult to get right! Beef burger was tasty though.
10% surcharge on Public Holidays was a bit of joke given the already expensive prices of food and drink in the hotel.

We had intended getting a massage while we there but the prices in the Spa were ridiculous - over FJ$400 for a couples massage which we felt was not worth it.

While overall it was an enjoyable stay, my partner and I felt that it was 5 star prices without the 5 star quality.

The Sofitel meets your needs and some. Arguably the best located hotel at Denarau due to its proximity to the Port shops etc, the service, quality of rooms etc is excellent.

The staff are warm and friendly and the facility is maintained well. Management seem active in ensuring standards are maintained as they are quite visible.

Any request is handled promptly.
Definitely will return here.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

We stayed at Sofitel on Denaru, Nadi in April 2013 for a week. The resort was lovely. The pool and surrounds were very well maintained and picturesque (even though there had been a cyclcone only a few months before). There are almost 300 rooms and the resort was almost full but did not give the impression of too many people. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We only stayed in a basic room but the facilities were excellent. The bed was king sized and so very comfortable with pillows that you just sank into. A minor down side was that the shower was over the bath which was a bit narrow (though water pressure was great). The water pooled up on the floor beside the bath and became a bit slippery at times. The room air con was locked on 22 degrees which was just right.
We had to ask for items such as shampoo and soap to be replenished but these came quickly and with a smile. There is an onsite laundry for guests at no cost (you do need to provide washing powder) which was readily accessible.
There were just enough pool lounges for the guests present but the lounges could be rather uncomfortable after a while. Those few that had a thin padded mattress were highly sought after.
Food was relatively expensive but you could choose to go to Port Denaru via the Bula Bus ($8 a day each) or taxi $7 each way. There are a number of restaurants at the Port. A trip into Nadi is another option but we didn't do this. We ate at the SALT restaurant at the resort most nights and the food was good. The themed nights in the Lagoon restaurant were rather average and lacking in atmosphere. These nights were very expensive and provided just an average meal. Maybe a little bit of entertainment or something a little more special aligned ot the focus might be worthwhile. On our last night we ate at the V restaurant. Wow, what an experience! It was also rather expensive but well worth it for a special occassion. Food was excellent, service above excellent and atmosphere spot on.
Overall, a lovely holiday and we highly recommend this resort.

Room Tip: Rooms from 100 - 120 nice and quiet (and likewise 200 - 220 and 300 - 320) with great views. Would...

My Family went to the sofitel for a vacation as i had been to fiji when i was younger i wanted my partner and twin boys to enjoy fiji the same way i did. The kids loved it the staff. The Staff loved hanging out with the boys the brekkie was yum yum yum. The boys where spoilt for choice when it came to the food..The staff where great they took the boys the first night and got them to join in on the fire lighting around the hotel and dressed them in traditional wear it was sooo awesome to watch. The rooms where clean and very comfortable and the beautiful views from every part of the hotel was gourgous..It was so much fun with the water slide and so much to do or if you would rather do nothing you could..My partner enjoyed it so much he proposed to me and we went back to get married at the sofitel and have been going back every since

Room Tip: Gound floor rooms at the executive wing beautiful on the end of the wing. Beach outside your door sp...

Really enjoyed Sofitel Denarau and would recommend it to couples and to people with family. We travelled with friends who had small children and the hotel was one of the few in Fiji to enable their three year old into the childrens' club, which he really enjoyed. The staff there seemed really helpful and managed the children really well.

I'd agree with other reviewers that getting an Accor Club card is great value when travelling here - half price of food in the restaurants and cheaper hotel rates. Some strange rules though - food is half price in the restaurants but, if you eat breakfast in the coffee shop, it's considered a cafe so it doesn't qualify?!

V Restaurant was magnificent and the staff both there and in other restaurants were great. Entrees at V are more adventurous than the mains but both of good quality - go for the tenderloin rather than the ribeye though if you are into steak.

Overall, great hotel, well laid out and well run. The spa was good and their specials really worthwhile. Rooms lovely although somewhat tired bathrooms but, with oceans views from all, it was all lovely.

The reception area is stunning and sets the mood for a great stay in Fiji. This hotel has direct access to the best part of a sandy stretch of beach compared to other neighboring hotels. The pool area is stunning and the rooms are comfortable with each having a balcony facing the ocean. The hotel is well-situated to Port Denarau, the gateway to some of Fiji's island network.

While staying at the Sofitel we looked at all the other resorts on Denarau and found this to be one of the best. The atmosphere was lovely, great pool and bar area and good spacious rooms. V restaurant was lovely we only went to the buffet once and were disappointed but Fiji isn't renowned for its cuisine. It is a great resort for couples and families. Added advantage is it's close proximity to the Marina which is a fun place to go for good bars and restaurants, better value than the resort restaurants
