“Absolutely horrible”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2007

This hotel is so tired looking. The paint is pealing, the tiles cracking, curtains fading etc etc. It cannot be classed as a five star hotel. The whole property needs to be knocked down and started again! It is not even acceptable as a stepping stone hotel. Stay at the villas - but no more than 2 days.

Not at all impressed. We stopped for a one night stopover on the way back from Castaway Island.

Has all the grandeur of a supposed 5 star (?) but the rooms are in dire need of refurbishment. Ours STANK of cigarette smoke- absolutely disgusting and we were greeted by a cockroach in the middle of the floor. The smell permeated the linen and everything.

The pool was just a big square, no thought to function i.e. separate kids area, bar area or quiet area. It was way too small for the number of rooms.

The beach was not very nice compared to the outer islands (Although I knew this already) and cannot really be helped as it is the mainland.

The meals at their 'Signature restaurant' were outrageously priced, $FJ50 for a main. We did have a nice meal at the Sheraton Villas in the Japanese restaurant however.

We felt the whole place was really pretentious compared to the quality of the rooms. Mutton dressed up as lamb. It didn't have the casual Fiji feel of the islands, you could have been at any location around the world.

The staff were friendly enough but you did not get the Fiji feeling.

Also the drinks were quite expensive, we expected the mainland tho be a little cheaper than the islands.

I was very disappointed with the Sheraton. The rooms were ok but the bathroom was in need of a good bleach. The whole place is in need of a renovation. Compared to the other Resorts in Denarau it is very tired looking. The food was very nice though.
I thought it was very expensive compared to the other resorts . We made a 4 minute phone call to Australia from our room and it cost $70. When we made a phone call from another resort for the same amount of time it only cost us $17. Drinks were also very expensive compared to the other resorts.

  • Liked — It has a beautiful Wedding Chappel
  • Disliked — The front desk staff were quite rude

This was the least expensive of the Starwood properties on Denarau Island. The hotel web site did not reflect the best deal - despite the normal guarantees - another web site provided a rate of A$235 B/B versus the A$325 'best' rate offered by the hotel. Even the cheaper rate is expensive for this hotel. Showing its age the rooms are clean, reasonable size and have a good range of equipment and facilties but they are clearly reaching an end of life and need refurbishing. The food standard is poorer than I've experienced in similar hotels and as an example the evening buffet was expensive at F$75 for a 3 star selection of food. The other 2 restaurant locations are of a slightly higher standard - and the beach/sand location of the poolside eatery has a good ambience but again the selection is limited and reasonably pricey. The gym is small, very poorly equipped and maintained. Matching the overall impression of the 'stay experience' the staff smile and try hard but rarely succeed; a complaint of a 24hr bell ringing, keeping most of our party awake was met with a justification that it was the laundry 'over-pressure' alarm! Overall this is a tired old-dame with a need for a 'face-lift' and whislt not worth the $ rate there is a limited choice with adjacent properties also charging excessive rates. Look out for flight/hotel deals which seem to offer the best value from Australia & beyond

I found this hotel excellent for a stopover to/from the islands. We stayed for three nights after having spent 10 days out on the Yasawa/Mamanuca islands. When you arrive from the peaceful resorts on the islands, where noone has expected you to make any other decision than what to eat from the menu, it´s nice to come to a place where they have everything within four walls. A sort of slowly getting back to society. Facilities we found handy was the souvenir shops and tour desk. We also took the Bula bus which gives you easy access to the resturants on other resorts close by. This is strongly recommended since both the service and the food in the resturants at the hotel is nothing above average. The service at the front desk though is good.

Don´t spend your entire time on Fiji at this hotel, but as a stopover to/from somewhere else it´s a good choice.

My huband, 2 children aged 4 and 6 and I have just returned from 8 days at the Sheraton.

Overall I would say it was wonderful.

The rooms are a wonderful size for a family. Huge bathroom with a great shower. We had a room with 2 'queen' beds which were tiny!! My husband and I had a terrible first nights sleep as we were practically on top of each other! Ended up in separate beds for the rest of the stay for the first time ever, not too impressed.

I must say that the rooms are starting to look a little shabby, need to be renovated! Our room was an ocean front which was so fabulous. Great for the kids to play outside. nothing quite like waking up and seeing the sea out your window.

Generally found the staff very rude and unhelpful. There were a few that were ok, but most just couldn't be bothered helping with anything. Watch out if you need a last check-out, as they will charge at least $100 for the privilege, didn't expect that!

Pool area was pretty average. Boring pool design. Cracked tiles everywhere. Much prefered the pool at the Westin and villas. Lots of sunbeds and umbrellas though.

Eating out was quite expensive, but nice to have the choice of the other resorts. We found the golf club was great value. Also Blue Vono. Steakhouse at the Westin was good too.
Buffet breakfast was great, lots of variety. Didn't really need much to eat during the day.
Nice to have the option of The Cafe for quick, cheap meals, especially with kids.

The Bula bus was fantastic. I think it was the highlight of the trip for my 4 year old son. Nice to just jump on and go somewhere different each day.

The whole resort had a wonderful relaxed feel to it. Never felt busy which was nice. The beach was a dissapointment, thought it would be a lot nicer than it was. Kids didn't seem to mind though. Had a ball playing on it.

Overall I thought the Sheraton was good, but I probably wouldn't go back until it had been refurbished. Had a good look at the rooms at the villas and the Westin and either of these would be a much better choice. Still had an amazing holiday and can't wait to return to Fiji!!
