“Lovely resort, but suprising beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

As they advertise online, I expected a truly "tropical oasis". Indeed it was a lovely place to rest and relax by the pool, offering good dining experience, lots of activities and great service provided by the most friendly staff. I was just surprised by the beach, which was quite far from the view of "tropical oasis" I had in my mind. The sea was not very clear, with lots of jellyfish. I haven't seen anybody swimming in the sea throughout my stay (5 days).

Dear Peter H,

While I was pleased to hear you enjoyed the accommodation, dining, pools and activities on offer at our resort, I am sorry that you were disappointed with the beach front. Thank you for sharing your feedback and we hope you will visit us again soon.

We stayed at the Sheraton for 5 nights in June, our room was clean and well presented every day by the room service staff. The A/C unit and fridge are crazy noisy at night (having read other reviews I'm guessing this is a problem that won't ever be fixed) the overall presentation of the hotel is good. The staff are super friendly in all the facilities. My down side to the trip was the price of the food and drinks (not just alcohol) $16.50 for a corona with tax, when you can go down the road and buy one in a bar for $8, that's just wrong and bad taste! The meals are pricey too $95 Fiji for a buffet (which was nice but it's a buffet, if you know what I mean) per person, go down to the quay and you will have a nice meal for two for that and possible a couple of drinks. You get my point.
Great hotel, a little dated in some ares, awesome staff but wowsers they charge for food and beverages.

Room Tip: Ask for a seafront/ ocean front room not just a sea view. If I stood at a funny angle and used circu...

We stayed a couple of nights before heading to the island, the rooms are ok but the air conditioning is noisy and the rooms are showing cracks in ceilings and the screens to outside are hard to open but they where clean and had nice views and where quiet apart from the air conditioning. Breakfast area is ok but not very relaxing as there is so many people..
The pools where ok if you got up early to get a lounger, but seamed to get one by the Westin which was quieter and had a lovely bakery inside the resort.
It was ok overall but not sure i would rush back.

Expensive but very nice. This was our third visit to the Sheraton. The rooms are clean and tidy although we found the air conditioning unit a bit noisy at night. Fabulous bathroom with a double sink. Ocean Breeze rooms are great. We were on the top floor so a good view. Ocean view or Ocean Front rooms would be even nicer. Feast buffet is excellent , especially if you get the half price voucher for your first night. All the restaurants are expensive. We took our own cereal for breakfast and you can buy milk at the Denerau Villas shop. Like any large hotel it's friendly but pretty impersonal, especially once you have been to one of the islands. I'd probably stay at the airport for the first night next time and go straight to the island the next day. If you can afford it It would still be a relaxing stopover on the way home after the island before flying home the next day. Bring your own alcohol/snacks and have a drink on your balcony before going out at night. Hard to get a spot by the pool during the day as people get up at 6am and save spots with their towels and then leave them for 2/3hours while they go off for breakfast etc !! I recommend Malolo Island or Castaway/ Matamanoa....have been to all three and never a problem there. The Sheraton charge for the use of catamarans/kayaks etc whereas it's all free on the islands. All in all it's a very nice hotel but very expensive.

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs have great views and less invasive with people walking by. Ocean Breeze great.

We stayed for four nights as a couple. On arrival we were upgraded as an SPG member to an ocean view room. Part of our booking had been at garden view room level so to have the whole stay in the one higher grade room for the same price was a great start.

We used the Feast restaurant buffet for dinner the first night - at half price (SPG membership again). We had breakfast there each morning and loved the service and the range of food. The local newspaper at the restaurant check in desk and coffee delivered to your table are a nice touch. The view from the restaurant is really pretty - grab a table closest to the pool.

We mostly used the adults only pool. The main pool is for families and they are everywhere. Having an adults only pool means you can escape that scene.

The room was lovely. We had room 1404 in the second building of rooms. This is a big resort so where you are can effect your experience. Our room appeared recently refurbished to a high standard. We were very comfortable here. No cockroaches (or any other insects) no aircon problems - the only issue was a dead light globe over one of the two sinks in the bathroom. We reported it and it was fixed before we got back to our room.

We bought a four day pass on the Bula bus and used the Westin and Wyndham resort restaurants as well as eating at the Sheraton. Mumacitas mexican at the Wyndham was particularly fun - there is a long list of tequilas available by the glass. We took the bus into the Marina several times and ate there. We did some shopping there too. The Marina shopping centre is a homogenous development that is typical of modern resort towns. The credit card took a bit of a bashing.

I particularly want to mention the Sheraton staff who made our stay so happy. They went out of their way to help out. The reception staff particularly, but all of those we came in contact with were happy, courteous and helpful. Denarau is a big name resort development but it is the people that make the difference.

On that subject, Denarau is about big resorts, not beaches or coral or cheap stays. These must be found elsewhere.

We loved the Sheraton and would happily stay again and longer. We recommend it highly

Room Tip: Become an SPG member before you stay. It is free and easy to do - google it. If you don't book d...

The moment we stepped foot on the resort, we were greeted by the friendliest staff members. We stayed at the hotel for 5 days, and from the very first night through to the very last morning, the experience was nothing short of spectacular. The rooms were exquisite and the views, even more so. The facilities provided by the Sheraton Fiji played a major role in making the experience memorable. The hotel rates weren't over the top either which made it even more worthwhile.
To anyone who is looking for 5 star accommodation in Fiji, I highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Choose Ocean View rooms- the views are worth the extra few dollars!

Lots of problems and waiting at check-in, and a room that seemed to have seen better days. Linen seemed old and a bit worn, and although the location is perhaps the best in a Denarau, the reality is that Denarau itself should never be considered a destination and should only be for stopovers (by necessity).

Having stayed at several Denarau resorts before I was suprised to find that the Sheraton had the worst levels of service, and looked the oldest . Staff seemed quite disinterested in guests, to the point that they will actually avoid eye contact so as to avoid the need to engage with you. Totally different to other places. Grounds are ok, but litter is noticeable around the Sheraton's grounds - something you don't find at the per nearby hotels. Shop at the end of the driveway was half the price of the one in the hotel's lobby, which was a nice surprise (although this merely highlighted e ridiculousness of the prices charged in the resort).

Pools are not heated and are stone cold. Beach activities centre is manned, but by locals who really don't want to talk to you. Beach is an awful mud flat.

Bottom line - stay elsewhere. If you must stay on Denarau, just note that the beach is awful at all the resorts, so choose your resort based on service. This one ain't it.
