“Great Hotel for the Money!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2011

We stayed at the Fajardo Inn for 2 nights following a cruise out of San Juan. It was close to the beach and to the rain forest. The staff was very helpful in suggesting restaurants that we might like and giving us directions to the rain forest and to the beach. We had a balcony room with a great view of the ocean and the rain forest. For the price, it was a great hotel. Plus, there were 2 restaurants on site that were both very tasty. The only drawback was that it was difficult to find. Fortunately, I speak a little Spanish and was able to get directions from local folks.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights during a birding trip. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and a haven for many different birds. There are also fruit trees to feed both human and avian guests. There are two different pool areas, with the lower one being the largest. The setting is lovely and the pools very clean and inviting. The rooms are large and very clean, with tile floors. The beds are very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated on a slope, and some rooms would be difficult to access for anyone with mobility issues, but I believe there would still be suitable accommodations available.

We stayed here 6 years ago and ther have been plenty of improvements. If you have a rental car this is a great place to stay. It is very clean, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the new pool is the best. The savings for us were the best. We were able to choose restaurants outside of the hotel and come and go as we pleased. At $105.00 per night we had ample space, a balcony, views of the Caribbean, and a small kitchen with microwave and fridge and a sink and service for two. The ferry to Vieques and Culebra are 4 minutes away, Gambling is 10 minutes. and two of the best restaurants we've ever been to are maybe 6 minutes. Pasion de fogon, and Ola-ola great tapas.

Fajardo Inn/Room 313

We are here on Road Scholar birding trip. Three days ago I eMailed the Inn and requested an upgrade with a view. They say I have an upgrade which is in fact something of a dump. The view is of parking lot gone to seed. Likewise gone to seed is the room, reminding one of the style of an '80's Days Inn. A nice large closet contains four lonely plastic hangers along with an ironing board on the fond hope that someone would stay more than a day. The dim light in the shower reveals a single small piece of soap, shampoo and conditioner.

There is a kitchen with microwave and a rusty refrigerator. Again, why anyone would stay more than one night remains a mystery.

The balcony is about four feet wide with no table or chairs to be found. One wouldn't venture out there in any event unless you like a view of dilapidated old military vehicles, trash and roof tops.

We greatly enjoyed our time in Puerto Rico, but the hotel wasn't entirely as advertised. Things you should know: the hotel's location isn't walkable to much. The ferry terminal is indeed a 10 minute walk away, but the area is full of factories and stray dogs. Also, many of the rooms smelled funky, and a number of "ammenities" were closed or somewhat misleadingly described when we visited in December -- "business center" was a room of 2 old computers and unreliable internet, swim-up bar was closed, mini-golf was so poorly maintained that putting was difficult, hotel restaurants are lame and overpriced, and there are hardly any other nearby food options.

Still, the hotel staff is good spirited. They helped where possible. Nearby beaches are beautiful. And the weather is great!

We stayed at the Fajardo Inn for 2 nights.

Pros

* It is a nice hotel perched on a hill, with spacious clean rooms and clean bathrooms.
* The staff was nice, informative, helpful and assisted us in getting taxis on multiple occasions.
* It is a short walking distance (~ 10 min) from the terminal where you can get ferries to Vieques and Culebra.

Cons

* Only for people who don't have a rental car, the location is not walking distance from many eating options. Your only bet most of the time (lunch or dinner) is the restaurant attached to the hotel - Blue Iguana. The restaurant is good but the lack of choice is not great. The Fajardo Inn also has another restaurant called Star Fish, however, it ended up being closed on the occasions that we tried to go there (late lunch and dinner).

Conclusion

Turned out to be a great option for the price and the only cons we came across are applicable if you don't have access to your own car.

My wife and I went to Puerto Rico and decided to visit Culebra. We arrived to Fajardo late at night and without reservation found the Fajardo Inn. What a windfall. Close to the ferry to Culebra, clean rooms, friendly service, cold air, two restaurants, and we could not beat the price at a 2 star hotel.
