“Beautiful setting but nickeled & timed”

The setting of this resort could not be more beautiful. We knew it was expensive, but if you go there be ready to be nickeled & timed to death. We stayed in the Casitas, which has a kitchen, which we like as we prefer to make our own breakfast. The hotel offers a service whereby they will shop for you for a $25 service fee, however, this year they also overchared us for the items purchased on TOP of the service fee; for eg. we were charged $6 for a 12 oz bottle of Snapple, $15 for 4 quarts of milk, $17.50 for a 12 pack of Pepsi, $12 for a 6 pack of Sprite, etc. The restaurants are expensive and only ok. In any event, the nickle & time stuff does not sit well with me when you are already being charged 1st class rates for less than a 1st class resort. Been there 2 years in a row, will not be going back.

“too big and expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2009

We stayed at the Casita's and it's true, as one other review said, that if you stay here you should know that it's a big resort. I must say though that this place is HUGE. The room was beautiful and roomy, The shuttles were timely and the service was really superb but I would never stay here again. It took at least a half hour to get to the beach and it wasn't worth. The water was flat and boring. we actually ended up renting a car for $70 a day just to drive to the wyndam Rio Mar to stay by their beach which was sooo much nicer. It had waves!
But even if you disregard all the advise, I would say that it is one of the most expensive hotels i have ever been to. My family of 4 spent at least $500 a day on food. Insane and unexceptable to me that a family resort should rip people off like that. You just can't have a good time that way.
The spa was reasonable but not too nice. A little dirty and I didn't find it luxurious at all. I had a basic massage and it was only O.K. also, they charged $25 dollars to enter the fitness center which had 1 elliptical machine and 10 old junky step machines.
I do not recommend this hotel mainly because I really felt ripped off the whole time.

“Lovely, but overpriced.”

Very lovely, but overpriced. No question that the location is beautiful, but Paradise
Island (Bahamas) is just as lovely and better priced. This is one of the least expensive
"U.S." areas, they don't need to put a bottle of water in your room and charge $8.00 for
it.
The place was nearly empty, and won't make it unless they have some special offers
going. We went out to local restaurants to eat, and found wonderful places at good
prices. The Conquistador charges for every move they make, including parking, and
then getting your car - even if you get it yourself. And so, dear Conquistador management, you will only scam me once.

“Loved this place on off-week”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2009

This place is great on off-weeks. We stayed the week before Presidents Day week. It was great being able to walk into restaurants without reservation, waking up any time without the burden of having to get a seat at beach/pool. No lines at water park or Palomino ferry. Palomino island was empty. We could play volley ball, rent jet ski, etc. Fantastic.

As Presidents Week approached, so did the crowds. Peolpe pushing to get seats at beach and pool. My kids were run over by two very rude NY woman getting on the ferry so they could get their seats. I would not want to be here during Pres Week with the usual crowds./

“El Conquistador - An Amazing Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2009

The El Conquistador is an amazing resort that is fun for the entire family.

My family vacationed at the resort last July and the kids continue to ask when will we be going back. The resort staff is extremely friendly and helpful.

Our kids range in age from 10 to 16 and there was fun for everyone. The hotel has its own waterpark onsite as well as several pools.

In addition you have access to Palamino Island, which is exclusively for El Conquistador guests. Each morning the family would jump on the high speed ferry and head to the island. On the island you can either relax on the beach or choose one of the many activities available. In the early evening we hung out at the pools and relaxed until dinner time. There are several great restaurants in the hotel and below in the harbor area.

The kids liked the Blossoms Japanese Grill and Ice Cream at Café Caribe while my wife and I loved The Stingray Café in the Harbor area.

We had a spectacular time!
