The Starfish Trelawny is gaudy, tacky and run down which is a crying shame because the staff in the main seem nice enough. Sadly the run down state of the place and obvious lack of investment mean the staff are up against it - the place struggles to deliver and the dining hall resembles Butlins back in the sixties with its cheap orange and blue plastic chairs.
The aircon in the rooms was filthy and was all on or all off. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages which caused a number of guests problems - my wife included who ended up in Montego Bay hospital with respiratory probs - and if u ever have to go there you cannot imagine how poor the hygiene is (no exaggeration there's blood running down walls, syringe needles laid all about, people walking in with bullet wounds: its like hell on earth) . So, imagine my shock when i asked the chef for some fresh fruit so i could take it to her in hospital - he flatly refused. I pleaded but no use - after trying everything i made an official complaint to the mgr who apologised profusely and got me some, but then whispered just see me if u want any tomorrow !!! Clearly the chef is a nasty piece of work.
The beach is dirty and not pleasant to swim in the 'private island' is covered in cigarette butts and the locals won't let you on or off without trying to flog you something or cadge something. They get quite annoying and aggressive. The restaurants are always booked up early too so, unless u get up at the crack of dawn to queue and book u will struggle to get in anywhere except the buffet. Then there's the flood of locals that they allow in to the resort once a week - why they're allowed to run riot is beyond me but be prepared for that.
