We just returned from a 6 day trip to FDR Pebbles. It was simply wonderful! Our kids (ages 7 and 3) were as happy as could be, and my husband and I enjoyed a much needed break from our usual hectic and stressful routine. This was our first trip to Jamaica and our first family stay at an all-inclusive, so in that context, here’s what you should know:

• The people of Jamaica and staff at FDR Pebbles are wonderfully warm, welcoming, and gracious. Everyone works so hard and is as pleasant as could be.
• Our vacation nanny was fantastic. She kept our kids entertained, safe, fed, comfortable, and happy. The resort is small, so I could always find them if I felt like checking in on their activities, or playing with them. There are so many different activities for kids (from early morning to bed time), we didn’t get to nearly all of them during our stay. Since there’s a 4 year age gap between our kids, one good feature was leaving the younger child with our nanny while we took our older child snorkeling or in the ocean. Also, since our younger child still naps, it was nice having the nanny stay with her in our room while we ate lunch or relaxed on the beach. I felt like our nanny was dedicated to taking care of all of us – we wanted for nothing.
• The grounds are lovely, and the pool and beach are great. We never found the beach to be overly crowded, even though we traveled during peak Spring Break season. I always felt safe and at ease.
• Another plus is that the background of the guests is fairly diverse, including Jamaicans. I believe the resort is Jamaican-owned, which we appreciated.
• The experience was incredibly relaxing for the grown-ups.
• The accommodations are simple and modest - we had a large room which was semi-split into two separate rooms. It was perfectly adequate and comfortable but not luxurious. We especially liked that no building is higher than 2 or 3 stories (it is not a high-rise type resort).
• The food is fine – nothing special, but since all I cared about was that someone else was taking care of cooking and cleaning, it suited me perfectly. The drinks are plentiful and delicious! Mixed drinks are included.
• You have to leave the resort for shopping (as I wasn’t remotely interested in that activity, not a problem). The all-inclusive price includes one shopping trip to Montego Bay and another historic tour of Falmouth (neither of which we attended).
• We took one day-trip to Dolphin Cove for the “touch” experience, which we loved (even though it was outrageously expensive).
• I wouldn’t recommend the resort to individuals or couples traveling without kids along.
• Bring lots of sunscreen from home! Bathing suits (with cover-ups for the girls and women), shorts, and tee-shirts were all that was needed during the day. I was comfortable in Capri pants in the evening.
• Lastly, we provided tips to our nanny and a few special staff before we left. I had no idea how much to tip the nanny, so I settled on $5 per day per kid, plus $2.50 per day for cleaning our room (which was one of her additional responsibilities). Hope that helps others.

All in all, if you are looking for a low-key, very relaxing vacation where your kids are happy and entertained, this is a great place to go. We were all sad to leave and look forward to returning one day.

This was the best place for kids. I have a 8, 3,2 year old. they loved it. The vacation nanny was great, we were able to spend time with each other while genevie(nanny) took the kids to the diso, kids club, crab hunnting and what not at night. us $4.00 per hour we paid more. The kids buffet nice! chicken pasta sandwitches jello icecream, kids drinks at the grill (spongebob, spiderman) kids love these they should try for a girl drink something princess.

the adult food was good, loved the itlian resturant and the beach BBQ. breakfast was really good loved the smoothies. we did not leave the resort but for though of you that would like too take the nanny with you. My daughter love to play in the sand, they have all the sand toys you would want so don't bring any. We took our own life jackets but they have them at the pool. bring lots of sunscreeen. the family realy enjoy the glass bottom boat ride, we saw sting ray another family saw a nurse shark. you can snokle at the beach or take the tour from resort. colin was a very nice man.

the staff was great at filling request right away. we stayed away from the dairy but they offer soy products if you ask for them.my kids like the strawberry soya milk. they filled our inroom fridge with what we asked for. we had a room in block 4 overlooking the pool nice room but for about $10.00 more a night you can have one looking out over the sea, munch better we just did not know. NEXT TIME block1 for us. tie-dye fun afternoon, bring lots of your own shirts a bit pricey at resort.

over all would go back again, a few things to change, Ask for extra nanny$20.00 per day for 3 kids and get sea view room.

Timeshare community - All inclusive stay - Don't forget your wallet!
Older, family oriented community. I was 28 and my wife 29, we had a great time with the staff, the food was great, and the fisherman who caught the live lobsters for me was the coolest. The staff chef was very kind to prepare them for us, best lobsters I ever tasted for $15 LoL If you arrive looking for a freakfest you will be disappointed, but if you are ok with a charming room and peaceful settings You'll be fine! Enjoy!

“FDR Pebbles - the best island vacation resort”

FDR Pebbles

Clean rooms, but perhaps not for those expecting the most up-to-date. Great food, they even include some local cuisine if you want to try it. If you have children - it's heaven on earth - a nanny included that you can keep on for the evening, for a few extra bucks.
Super friendly, high-energy staff always making sure you are happy. All-inclusive, really means all-inclusive. You can always find a cold drink. Glass-bottom boat tour, snorkeling, single-kayaks... and if you want one of the guys to go with you as a "guide" they are happy to do so.
We left this resort to go to a wedding at another resort - regretted leaving. So much that we forfeited a few hundred bucks to return for the remainder of our trip. THey even gave us the same Internet rate when we returned (thanks, Freddie). We even got the same nanny for our son - Audrey!
GO. Especially if you have children. You won't regret it.

“Nanny made the trip- set your expectations before you go- you'll have fun”

FDR Pebbles

This was our 2nd time to Jamaica in the last 4 years. We stayed at the Ritz in MB last time and liked it, but decided to try something else this time. The Rtiz is a 4-5 star, Pebbles is a 2-3 star (some big differences). First of all, do your homework about this resort before you go. (Read as many reviews as you can before you go). This is a place for families and children. The resort is very mellow in curbside appeal- not fancy at all, but good enough. It is fairly inexpensive for what you get (you get what you pay for, with the exception of the Nanny) (If she is good- your trip will be worth it no matter what) The resort is known for the nanny service which is included in your package price. You are expected to have your Nanny everyday from 9-4:40 pm everyday you are there. She has a few breaks and then you have the option to use her after hours to go out to dinner. She straightens up your room, stocks your fridge with fruit, cheese, fruit loops, crackers, beer and sodas. You can hang out with her and your kids, or let your kids do what they want with her while you are off napping, sunning yourself, eating, etc.
I will try to sum up our week (5 nights/ 6 days) as best as I can.
We have 2 kids 3.5 years and 5.5 years old and I am over 7 months pregnant (this was our last trip as a family of 4).
I requested a Nanny named Kimberly Williams, who was the reason this trip ended up being good (23 years old, responsible and good natured). DO YOUR RESARCH! You would probably not let your kids go with just anyone at home- so why do it in a 3rd world country. I was afraid of getting a "bad " nanny after all the reviews I read. I requested her and thankfully she was availiable. The nannies work based on tenure and requests. Our nanny was there 2 years, some have been there as many as 6 years. Our nanny told us that there has been really slow periods she hasn't worked for a month or more. They make NOTHING! I think $50 a week PLUS the tips you give them at the end of the week. We gave our Nanny $120 as a tip because of everything she did with our kids and how much they liked her.
DO NOT GO TO FDR PEBBLES FOR THE FOOD. Some things are Ok to eat, other things are really bad. Some of the fish and meats were great. There are 4 places to eat, 2 of which are only open1 or 2 times during the week (an Italian restaurant and a Jamaican restaurant). The grill restaturant is a swim up to or sit down restaurant open from 10:30sih- 10 ish at night. You can get burgers, fries, sandwiches etc. whenever you want. We found to the food to be pretty awful (at the grill quality wise- but the kids loved the grilled cheese, etc. You will find things you like on the buffet that is served breakfast 7:30-10:30, lunch 12:30=2:30 and dinner 6:30- 8:30. We were always the early birds to eat with the kids. Coffee is brewed by 7am in the main restaurant everyday, so I would go down to get it and request a little metal coffee pot. to take to my room. (Sometimes the staff gave me an attitiude, sometimes not) If you have not been to Jamaica before, you may love the people, or not.
Most of the staff at the resort is very nice. The grounds are very clean and cared for. The rooms are a little tired, but efficent for you and your kids. Request a room upgrade with a water view if you check in and it is slow. It is well worth it. BRING BUG SPRAY. At night around 6p, mosquitoes and other bugs start coming around. They fog the property at night to kill some off, but others will get in your room at night. SPRAY YOURSELF B/F bed and you should be fine. Some kids were covered in bites while we were there.
If you go to Pebbles during a slow time (not school vacation week, or holidays) there is a lot less to do for the kids. They don't plan as many acitivities for the nannies to take the kids to. Our kids did rock painting, tie dying shirts, arts and crafts, treasure hunts, etc. They were really content hanging in the pool and going down the water slide with life jackets on. I saw a lot of nannies get in the pool with the kids (the deepest part is 4'6''.
We saw all age kids with nannies 2 months- 12 years old perfectly happy. The rainy times of day are fine for the kids- they hang out and do arts and crafts, etc. There isn't too much for the adults to do if it rains, but thank god for the nannies.
I would recommend this resort if you set the right expectations before you go. I read all the "bad" reviews too and realized when I was there that some of those people probably aren't happy anywhere. Go with a positive attitude and your family should have a great time.
