“Fantastic!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2011

We went to the restaurant here for our wedding anniversary, having heard great reviews about it (we live nearby). On arrival we found a beautifully and tastefully restored house with welcoming open fires and friendly staff. The waitresses managed to be both efficient and take the time to chat and welcome us despite being extremely busy. We were invited into a sitting room and offered drinks and a look at the menu while we waited for our table (we were early and as I already said they were very busy), it was lovely and relaxing - just what we wanted for our anniversary. The food was excellent - scallops cooked to perfection! My husband had lamb for his main and it was, in his opinion, the best he has ever tasted!
We have friends staying with us next month and are already anticipating treating them (and ourselves) to Sunday lunch here! :)
Thanks Rosita and family for a wonderful evening!

I was in Durrow to attend a wedding at the Castle and this was the perfect place to stay. I checked out the reviews here first and was impressed by all the raves, and I can now say how deserved they are. On all points; cleanliness, friendliness, value for money, even the quality of the coffee, this place is a gem.

I stayed in the Ashbrook Arms while attending a wedding at Castle Durrow nearby. It's a lovely old building, which has been nicely renovated, and is right in the centre of Durrow, County Laois. The Aircoach service from Dublin to Cork stops almost outside the front door. It is literally 2 minutes from the Castle, and 10 minutes from Abbeyleix. I was greeted by name on arrival by Rosita the manageress, who showed me to my room - a lovely double room with a large sleigh bed, flatscreen TV, high ceiling, bottled water and a spotlessly clean en-suite bathroom. After a night celebrating I enjoyed a great sleep in the comfy bed, and then the following morning an absolutely delicious full Irish breakfast with complimentary newspaper. They really make every effort to make staying in this guesthouse a cut above the usual experience, I was so pleased and would highly recommend the Ashbrook Arms.

Stayed in this guesthouse to attend a wedding in Castle Durrow. It's perfect! Location is literally 5 mins walk to the castle front door, breakfast was excellent, all freshly cooked, big bedrooms & bathrooms perfectly fitted out with lovely comfortable big sleigh beds, crisp white linens & lovely fluffy white towels (not often found in hotels!!). Would absolutely recommend this guesthouse.

Proprietors Sean & Rose Ita were most welcoming and friendly and waited up to welcome us - even though we arrived late. It was like home from home.

Like most, we travelled to Ireland for a wedding at the Castle Durrow. Our family had the most fantastic stay at the Ashbrook. Rosita and Sean make you so welcome that you feel like family. The building has a great history and has been restored to a very high standard. Our family occupied five of the bedrooms and each one of these was large, tastefully furnished (with incredibly comfortable beds) and luxurious en suites.
The lounge is very cosy with an enormous open fireplace and a basketful of logs for you to throw on the fire. And Rosita is always around to provide copious amounts of tea , coffee and biscuits. Sean is a great chef - we had an excellent meal on the first night of our stay and you really need a big appetite to enjoy his very tasty Irish breakfasts. Above and beyond all this excellent hospitality, Rosita ironed all of the shirts for the wedding!! We intend to return to Durrow, if for no other reason than to enjoy the excellent hospitality of The Ashbrook Arms!!

We found this place a great alternative to staying at the nearby castle for a wedding - it's about a 5 min walk away and half the price, although still a bit pricey for a B&B in our opinion.

That said, the incredible service more than made up for it, as we were greeted and looked after very well by a lovely local lady who was so friendly and accommodating it was refreshing and almost overwhelming! To my boyfriend's joy she even ironed his shirt for him!

The room and en suite was spacious, simple, tastefully furnished and spotless. The bed was incredibly comfortable. There was no TV or tea/coffee making facilities, but we liked that and were offered hot drinks and biscuits on arrival anyway.

We were also impressed by the homely lounge with a big fire that we wished we'd had more time to enjoy!

We did, however, find the time to enjoy a delicious full Irish breakfast, complete with a bottomless pot of tea, toast and tremendous hospitality.

We stayed 2 nights and slept at the front of the building the first night which is on the road and a little noisy early morning. I'd recommend requesting a room at the back that overlooks fields as it's much quieter. But testament to her goodwill, our lovely hostess noticed I was looking tired at breakfast and immediately made us up an alternative room to move into for the second night.

We couldn't have asked for more and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
