“Hidden Gem!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2011

The short trip from the busy A1 transports you away from the hustle and bustle of life to what feels like your own country manor. We relaxed in front of a beautiful open fire in the library and enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the whole place. The service was first class and David had superb local knowledge of everything from the beer to our evening meal. I would recommend the meal at Eshott Hall it was superb and was fantastic value for money. The venison was a real delight only slightly beaten by the pear dessert!! This will not be our only visit to Eshott.

Dan and Louise are the warmest and most generous of hosts, it feels like you are staying with dear old friends, they and their suer staff are low key and laid back in the best way but still attend to every little detail. The house is exquisite, the grounds delightful, the food wonderful and the rooms sumptuous. The surrounding countryside is stunning and there's so much to do and see. Fishing the Coquert River with my Dad and Dan was a highlight and John the gilly could not have been more helpful. We realy loved the country house feeling and the fact that both Dan and Louise are so hands on and enthusiastic. Congratulations Dan and Louise, also to Robert and Gina (we met Robert the owner and he was charm personified!) I think you have pitched it just right and wish you every success. We hope to come again - or to see you at our lodge in the South Luangwa, Zambia.

Have just returned from just under a week at Eshott Hall and Self Catering cottages staying in one of their converted stable cottages - and we wish it could have been longer! Eshott Hall is now under new management (Spring 2010) and is a perfect place to stay. Our hosts Lou and Dan couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. The hall itself itself is fabulous set in lovely grounds and has been renovated to a very high standard, mixing modern touches with heritage Georgian pieces (as befits the age of the Hall) perfectly. The cottage was lovely, had everything we needed and again beautifully appointed. Location wise, again, just right, leaving guests in easy striking distance of the coast, the hills, the local attractions and the city of Newcastle. We booked for an evening meal in the Hall during our stay and they have a wonderful chef so definitely recommend that. We're already planning our next stay!

We had a one night stay while visiting the Farne Islands with friends. This was our second visit - the first time we were so impressed that we decided to stay again. We were pleasantly surprised to find that it was even better than before. New Managers Dan and Louise are the most genial and helpful hosts you could ever meet. They are overseeing significant improvements, while running this top class boutique hotel/B&B. The rooms are large and well fitted, and have luxury bathrooms with bath and shower enclosure, and undertile heating. We also had dinner, where we were treated to the most fabulous meal, with pre-dinner drinks in the lounge and coffee in the library - wonderful ambiance which added a real sense of occasion to the birthday we were celebrating. Eshott Hall is in its own well-kept grounds, with a private drive and sunken vegetable garden (used for the freshest ingredients by the fantastic Chefs). We were even lucky enough to see a red squirrel on one of the many feeders! We will definitely stay again in the future - many thanks to Dan, Louise and team.

Firstly I must say I was very surprised to read the below review of 13 June 2010 but then noticed that the reviewer had actually stayed in 2008, so feel the review is very much out of date because wow oh wow - what a place! I read reviews on here but was never compelled to write one until now!

My husband and I stayed here as part of a golf tour over the UK and booked based on the reviews we had read here.

The hotel is rather tucked away but in the sense that when you drive into the grounds it really does have that wow factor. On arrival we were greeted by the managers ( a husband and wife) who were courteous and friendly and showed me and my husband to our clean, spacious and lovely room. The food was absolutely exquisite and the house and grounds stunning. I could not fault the place, especially as I had learnt that it had recently been purchased and all the staff were new. We were made to feel very welcome and will be returning without a doubt. If you want a place in the area to stay with great accomodation and a meal that is out of this world, prepared with local produce (some grown on the estate I believe) then this it it. Thank you for a truly memorable night.
