We stayed at the "Residang" passing through Trat. Getting in late we took a cab to the guest house area about 2 miles away from the bus station. The owner of Residang had a fan room on the 4th floor for 400 baht, around $13. Affordable, but there are much nicer guest houses in the area for around that amount. The room was on the 4th floor with a fan and it stayed pretty cool in there. There was a crappy tv with a remote with dead batteries, odd fluorescent ceiling lighting, not really that clean. This is when places start to feel creepy. Still alright for $13. Then we check the bed for bugs. Now, here is a trick that I learned at the vet when my cat had fleas. if you see any small, curly black things, those aren't bugs, they're the bugs' poop. If you smear it and it is red, then the bed is infested. In any case, we did that and bingo: Cimex lectularius, bedbugs. Threw some towels over the bed and dealt with it that night, but wanted to burn our clothes after leaving the place. I realize it's an investment for guest houses to purchase new mattress and frames, but at least check your beds for bugs and replace the sheets and covers. It seemed this room was pretty much unchecked. Also, we were nearly locked out of the place without any warning after grabbing a drink around the corner. Not much communication here. Stay here if you are getting into Trat late and can't find a room anywhere else in town. But either check the beds and bedding for bugs or bring plastic sheets with you.

Reality,

We regret it deeply that our house come through the internet
In that reputation. We regret it that the guest did not contacts us,
Especially if he had this suspicious attitude. We remember this Guest very
Well, we asked him is everything o.k. in his room.He agreed Than he left the Guesthouse for buying some drinks for his room party with his girlfriend .
When he came bag we remind him to the house rules because of our quiet place.
In our small Guesthouse we have very close contacts and relation to our guests, many of them are staying longer 3 to 4 days especially in this room and staying their again when coming bag from the Island. For all over the years nobody did even complain mosquitoes in the room.
There are definitely guaranteed no bedbugs in our rooms or in the house if not , so we
We would close the Room or the spoiled area .
We recommend also when such problems occur to be opening minded to contact us immediately. It should be the normal way when such serious problems appear to find a solution direct, instead of damaging the business with unproved matters.

The room was provided with hot shower, balcony, television, clean towels and bed sheets. The disadvantage was that there was no 24 hour reception and you have to return before 11 pm. Admitted, there is not much to do after 11 pm in Trat but we have to mention it.

If you are heading to Ko Chang we recommend not to buy the guesthouse's ferry tickets to Ko Chang as they depart from Centrepoint Pier where it looked like there were no connecting buses on the return trip (we took the Ao Sapparod pier on return).

The breakfast with scrambled egg was brilliant and the filter coffee a pleasure. The weird experience was to listen to Deutsche Welle from the speakers outside (German news radio programme). Summa summarum, the guesthouse was worth the 300 baht per night.

Residang is a very basic guesthouse in Trat don't expect anything fancy:
They don't hold the reservation of your room if you don't prepay for it: therefore our aircon room changed into a fan room at our arrival. The manager is not a natural communicant and yes the lobby is a bit dark. Good point is that the room is clean, environment quiet. You get what you're paying for, which is not much. overall: We were quiet satisfy. If you have to pass one day before heading to Cambodia or Koh Chang, Residang should do the trick.

This place is not one to linger around really. But if you have to stay in Trat - like we did on our way from Sihanoukville/Cambodia to Bangkok - this is probably a safe choice.

At first sight the place looks pretty bad. Dark, narrow, old - and the german owner does not make it any better. Lots of strange behaviour here. He wouldn't TELL you the WiFi Password but only type into your laptop - because he charges THB 20/day and you could 'sell' (uh- evil) to other travellers maybe?? Aircon is set to 21°C and we only got the remote after insisting - seems like every Baht needs to be saved there...

But after all, the rooms were clean, with small fridge, TV (Thai& 1 German Channel of course), hot water, quiet with comfortable beds that gave us a good sleep.

Breakfast was nice with good portions making us ready for the transfer to Bangkok! So don't bother about the rest if you just need a good bed for a night, you're safe here.

Alas, the reviewer makes my very friendly and comfortable guesthouse sound like a stage set from a horror movie. Please don't be misled! First impressions of a new place depend mainly on your own frame of mind! Residang is clean, comfortable and welcoming. The building is about 10 years old, we do happily give out remotes for the aircon to all responsible-looking guests, and our (very speedy) wireless is simply not a problem. Come and see for yourself!

I have been staying at Residang off-and-on for a few years, and I'm writing this to clarify some of the comments posted on this site.

This is a family-run hotel. The rooms are basic but very clean, comfortable and quiet, with cable TV and fast in-room internet. This is an excellent choice for families -- The owner doesn't tolerate noisy drunks or sex-tourists, and he insists that guests be quiet and considerate. No doubt this cramps the style of some, but for most people it makes Residang an unusually pleasant place to stay.

There is a restaurant and a travel service, which can sort out transportation to the islands. Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. The owner speaks English, German and Thai, and communication is not a problem. The hotel is tucked away in a quiet corner of town, but is only a 5 minute walk from the stores and the market.

Trat itself is a little gem of a town, which happily is not too well known. It has lots of good restaurants, a delightful market, and the people are incredibly friendly and pleasant. Residang is without a doubt the best hotel in Trat. Highly recommended.

If you look for a good bed, this place will make you happy!

They are very helpful with helping you organise a visa-run, cheap taxi and boat tickets.

The place has a lack of atmosphere. Its dark and run down. The owner gets a kick out of rules and hangs up notes everywhere. This makes you NOT feel at home.

The location is great with a lot of nice restaurants and other guesthouse. The vibe in the area is great. So this place stands a bit out.

If you look for a one night budget stay, go here! If you are looking for a nice, feeling at home place, don't go here.
