“Truely a special place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2008

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in August as part of our Honeymoon and we were totally blown away. We stayed in the Tientsin bungalow, which we thought at first looked a little remote from the other 3. But this proved to be more of a selling poitn for us.

The accomodation is outstanding and service above 5 star. We were waited on hand and foot but never too intrusive. The bungalows are the ultimate boutique experience for accomodation.

The scenery is aweinspiring along with the amazing local people. The tea factory visit is fantastic along with the guided walks being idyllic.

The highlight of our honeymoon!!!!!

Beware of the complimentary booze, potentil for extreme over indulgence if possible. But the food was gorgeous!!!!!

My husband and I stayed at the Castelreigh Cottage and were bowled over by just how fantastic this place is. It seemed quite expensive when I made the booking but once we got there we felt it was worth every penny. The cottage is stunning, i think this is the best one as it has a view over the lake and the rolling hills covered in tea bushes. There is a stunning pool and the rooms are spacious and the colonial styling is so comfortable. This only really scratches the surface of why the cottage is so good though. The real luxury here is in the personal service you get from the amazing team of staff (including your own butler) who serve really fantastic food and cater to your every need. The meals and drinks are all included in the price (they will even make up a packed lunch for you if you want to go exploring in the day). There is also a very lovely high tea served at around 5pm (on top of all your other meals). All in all the best place we stayed in Sri Lanka. We only stayed two nights but wished we had stayed longer.

The only negative thing I have to say about the place is the advice you get from the Activity Centre. They suggested we do a trip to Horton Plains as the drive would be 1.5 hours each way, with a few hours of walking around and visiting Worlds End. The drive actually took 3 hours each way (roads in Sri Lanka are slow going as they are mostly single lane)... so this ended up being a 9 hour excursion. We came back exhausted and wishing we hadnt gone.

Apart from this small hiccup... we recommend Ceylon Tea Trails whole heartedly. You MUST do the Tea Factory Tour with Andrew Taylor, the Planter In-Residence. He is the most passionate and interesting Tea Ambassador and will give you a really infomative and fun tour of the local tea factory. Excellent.

Stayed at Norwood bungalow for 2 nights en route to amanwella. Loved every aspect ie food, rooms (we had 2 garden suites) , staff. Highly recommend the river rafting and the visit to the tea factory on the plantation. Loved having meals on the terraces and plenty of room so that you could speak to guests in the bar but dine very privately if you wished. Cream teas were a delight.
Chef very obliging and would certainly adjust meals to suit your wishes ie do ask if you have preferences. WIne included in price was a Chilean standard type and drinkable enough not to warrant paying the premium for the other wines on offer.
Pool great for lengths but was fairly cold in my view.
UK travel agent said the bungalow at Norwood is 60s style but i think this doesnt do it justice. The decor is modern colonial and successfully looks as if it was always like that.
We (2 adults and 2 kids) could have stayed longer ie up to 4 nights easily and will have to return. None of the rooms interconnect but with only 5 rooms that should not be an issue for most familes.

We have recently returned from a 10 day trip in beautiful Sri Lanka, which was superbly organised by Premier Holidays. We stayed in some fantastic hotels and saw some wonderful sights, guided by the most knowledgeable guide, Ravi from Aitken and Spence. All of the arrangements and planning from Aitken and Spence was excellent and our trip went so smoothly.

Although we enjoyed every aspect of our stay in Sri Lanka, the highlight of our trip was definitely our stay at The Norwood Bungalow in the Ceylon Tea Trails.

Norwood Bungalow is an amazing place and we loved every minute of our stay there. It was so wonderful to wake up to the fabulous views from our windows each morning, surrounded by tea plantations and beautiful scenery, The decor and layout of the bungalow is beautiful, and the bedrooms were stunning. Also, whilst we were there, our friends got married at Norwood and this was an amazing day because of the setting, and because of attention to detail given by all at Norwood with the wedding planning, particularly by Andrew Taylor and Janaka Chandraratne.

Everyone at Norwood made us feel very special, and we could hardly believe that we were lucky enough to experience the wonderful Tea Trail experience and atmosphere. The service is second to none; you have your own butler (Mahes and Mahendran are fantastic) who ensures that everything is just perfect, along with Lakmal, Bandara and Sylvester, and the chef who spoke to us each day to ask what we would like for every meal! The food was stunning and so much of it! Three fabulous meals a day plus high tea!

We were also taken to look at the beautiful Castlereagh and Somerville bungalows. We walked from Norwood to Castlereagh through working tea plantations. It was fantastic to see how the tea is picked having been to a tea factory earlier on in our holiday. Each of the bungalows has its own character, but all are so tastefully decorated and maintained and have the most magnificent views.

We were totally overwhelmed by the Tea Trail experience and how we were treated - just like Royalty. We would definitely like to visit again and to stay for longer as our 3 nights were just not enough. We have returned home with some fabulous memories and photographs of our time there.

If you go to Sri Lanka, you must stay at The Ceylon Tea Trails - they are out of this world and words just cannot do them justice.

Thank you to all at Norwood, to Premier Holidays, and to Aitken and Spence, for everything you all did to ensure this was the most amazing stay we have ever had.
