“Excellent highlight in Sri Lanka”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2014

We had some high expectations before arriving in Yala! A safari in Yala with Leopard trails was planned and expected to be the highlight of our roundtrip to Sri Lanka - and it was. We stayed for 3 nights, which was great since wild animals sometimes tend to stay hidden... The nature was beautiful even though it was dry season. We spotted a lot of animals and birds, including some very good leopard sightings, sloth bear, elephants, deers and more. The safari vehicles was very comfortable.
Special thanks to Hasthika for both excellent game drives and very helpful photography guidance. And thanks to excellent drivers, the other rangers Arran and Jerome, Chandima (who helped us with the arrangements) and of course the rest of the always smiling and helpful staff.

The camp was great with spacious and comfortable tents, and good resting areas. We especially loved to sit around the camp fire, talking and gazing at the stars. The food was great as well.
We hope to return!

Leopard Trails had the perfect mix of being close to the jungle and all the comforts you love to have when on vacation. Being just outside the Yala national park means a good chance of seeing elephant near camp at night and beautiful bird life throughout the day. I loved the breeze and the smell of the jungle and the simplicity of sleeping in a tent as opposed to a concrete building but also having a rain shower open to the sky and a big comfortable bed with smooth cotton sheets! A quiet drink with a camp fire on a moonlit night [I went on a poya weekend] was the perfect night in the jungle.
The staff at Leopard Trails were courteous, obliging and efficient. The wild life guides are experienced, extremely knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Their enthusiasm gets you up and ready for the early morning round even if you’re not a morning person. On a one night trip to Leopard Trails I was fortunate enough to have a superb sighting of a big sloth bear and a fantastic [and probably one of the first] sightings of a mother and very young cub.
Loved the place. Definitely going back!

A safari in the Yala National Park is a must to-do in Sri Lanka, not only for nature lovers but also for anyone who want to truly experience the untouched nature of the few remaining parts of the world. Leopard Trail perfectly serves such guests by providing one-of-a-kind camping experience. Our arrival at LT was pleasantly greeted by Arran the camp manager, and his team, with wet towels and cold drinks. Tent interior was nicely done, with a queen size bed, candle lit lamps and an electric fan, and an “en-suite” washroom that had a proper flush toilet and a sink. The Shower tent was also attached to the washroom where you can take a hot shower under the stars. The menu by the way was prepared based on what we had expressed as our preference prior to our visit and there is also a variety of drinks selections for everyone's taste.

For our safari tour, we had a brand new, “high-end” safari jeep with clean and comfortable seats setup best suited for wildlife photographers. Along with us was Arran who had an amazing knowledge in animals and wildlife that we truly appreciated.

During our four safari tours, we were lucky enough to spot numerous leopard, multiple elephants, the elusive sloth bear and countless exotic animals that kept us excited for the whole day. After the wonderful safari, we spent the evening by the campfire discussing the multiple sightings during the day with other guests. Another amazing Sri Lankan meal and all-inclusive drinks surrounded by only the wild animal sounds and numerous stars above our heads followed the drinks.

This was truly our best travelling experience and will not be topped by anything for a very long time.

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. Your feedback is very important to us and we take your comments very seriously in order to improve the experience we provide at Leopard Trails.

We are pleased to hear you enjoyed and felt comfortable in our spacious tents with flush toilets and alfresco showers. As you mentioned we personalize every guest’s stay by sending them a questionnaire prior to their arrival. Glad you loved the food.

Thank you for mentioning our jeeps as we pay great attention to our fleet of vehicles. The new jeeps we use are completely customized and exclusively used by Leopard Trails across National Parks in Sri Lanka.

We also understand that the quality of guiding immensely enhances the experience of any safari and we are happy that Arran was able to exceed your expectations in this aspect of your experience. Pre-dinner drinks and bon-fire is often the highlight for most guests at camp.

It was a great pleasure hosting you at camp and we look forward to welcoming you at Leopard Trails in the future, maybe at our new camp in Wilpattu National Park.

During our 7-day tour of Sri Lanka we spent two night at Leopard trails in April 2014, our first camping experience and what an amazing experience it was. The surroundings and the location itself is amazing while the camp it self is extremely well setup. In terms of facilities, the tents are very spacious with comfortable beds a flush toilet and a wonderful hot shower under the stars.

Arran and Indika, our guides were extremely knowledgeable about wildlife and a lot of fun at the camp fire making the whole camping experience enjoyable.

The biggest surprise of our stay at LT was the food, it was without a doubt the best local cuisine we had on our tour. Since we were on our honeymoon the team had gone to great lengths serving meals at different romantic settings making the whole experience even more special.

We are already drawing up plans to spend our 1st anniversary with leopard Trails at its new camp in Wilpattu.Thank you for the memories and see you all soon.

We are glad that Arran's and Indika’s enthusiasm and knowledge in wildlife brought upon a better experience on your safaris and during evening drinks around the campfire.

Glad to hear that you loved the food! This seems to constantly appear in our reviews and we have noted to not change a thing when it comes to the menu! As you mentioned, we do provide private/romantic dinners upon request for couples or families.

Faultless ! Excellent food & service. Our safari experience was amazing thanks to our brilliant ranger Arran : saw leopards & even the elusive sloth bear ! A very professional, serene & animal-friendly safari experience, not at all like most of the other vehichles that we saw in the park (noisy engines left running whilst watching the animals, driving at high speeds after tip-offs from other drivers, etc). The knowledge imparted to us & our kids on the wildlife, birds, plants & stars (the latter observed during the lovely campfire at night) was invaluable !

Many thanks for a spectacular adventure. We were two families traveling together (4 adults, 4 children in total) and found Leopard Trails through the Luxe guide plus deco from a friend of a friend. We were impressed by the whole experience. The attention to detail and service was special. Chandima arranged for our transport from Colombo to Yala and then back to Bentota at the end of our stay. We only stayed one night but experienced two safaris BOTH of which we saw leopards. I guess we got incredibly lucky.

The camp is very well situated. Knowing we were camping, my expectations were low. I was blown away by the entire setup. The accommodations were really great and totally took our family needs into account. In particular, both of our children have life-threatening food allergies to eggs and to nuts. The camp staff took such great care of them. The chef fed them well and with care making most of the dishes allergy friendly and not compromising quality. We still dream about the curries.

We would like to extend a special thanks for Arran and Jerome who are clearly masters and experts. Our experience was magnified by their knowledge of the park and the animals. We learned so much about animal behavior. And we did get lucky with our leopard sightings.

We would definitely do this again. Perhaps we would go to Wilpattu next time so we can experience more of beautiful Sri Lanka.

We had an amazing stay at Leopard Trails. We were only there for one night, certainly not long enough of a stay for such an incredible place. We definitely can’t wait to come back on our next trip to Sri Lanka.

The campsite was beautifully set-up and the tents were very spacious and secure. The service and staff were excellent and the food was delectable.

Although there was no leopard sighting, the safari was an amazing experience. Arran made sure to keep us entertained by sharing stories and his knowledge about wildlife. We had a great time and looking forward to our next trip to Leopard Trails.

Thank you for such an amazing experience!!
