Thaminda was very friendly and had good communication. They picked us up and dropped us off in their tuk-tuk, free of change. Provided tea, bananas, coke, water and cake after dives.
Small dive shop but ok. Some of the gear looked well used but was ok. Diving in Welligama isn’t the best – mostly boulders with a few swim thoughts. Marine life was less than we expected for the Indian Ocean and not abundant. Water temperature was 29 degrees. He is the only dive centre in the Welligama area.
The price was 60€ for a twin tank dive, including all equipment hire, transport and snacks.
He did not take proof of qualification before accepting new divers and didn’t particularly buddy them well. I wouldn’t want to take a diving course with Thaminda. As a dive guide he was ok, but would not use him as an instructor. He used his air quicker than less experienced divers - we usually surfaced because of his air consumption.
We had a problem with contaminated air. One tank tasted of oil and made for a very unpleasant dive. Following the dive, he emptied the tank completely and changed the compressor filter. We also had a few engine troubles which were not very reassuring.
Note, he only accepts cash payment (rupees, Euros or Dollars).
