If you want peace and quiet, good food, friendly staff, beautiful surroundings, then look nowhere else. The hotel is quite isolated but a tuk tuk ride will take you into the local town. Our room 128 had a beautiful view over the hotel lagoon and was very comfortable. There is a huge buffet to satisfy most people. Free WIFI is available in the reception area. This was our ninth visit to Sri Lanka and as always the warmth and friendliness of the hotel staff was outstanding. Mosquito repellent is very useful! We also urge you to take any pencils writing books clothing towels etc to the orphanage in Waikkal about half an hour away where the children who are all mentally ill will give you an overwhelming welcome.

We were a group of 13 Americans, and my wife and I had our 10 month old baby. The first 24 hours were the hardest part of the stay. After that it was more enjoyable. We arrived in Sri Lanka on a late night flight from Bangalore. We left the airport about 11pm and reached Club Palm Bay at midnight. Check in was stressful. When we arrived the man at the counter was on the phone for over 5 minutes before he greeted us and started to help us. We were all exhausted and had a baby that needed to get to sleep ASAP but the staff was lacking and unmotivated to get us into our rooms quickly. It wasn’t until 1am that we were in our room and got the baby down to sleep. When we arrived in the room there was a thick trail of ants along the wall pillaging the sugar packets on the tea/coffee counter. This is unnerving when you have a small baby sleeping in the same room. It was too late and already been so hectic that we waited in the morning to clean the room. In the morning the house cleaning came to remove the ants, but when we returned from breakfast there were still ants everywhere and they had even swarmed the baby bottles that were in the bathroom. (I have posted pictures of this) I had to spend most of the that day dealing with the hotel staff to get us situated in a new room that was not ant infested and near our friends. The rooms themselves were ok, nothing fancy but got the job done. Thankfully you don’t spend much time in the room because the pool is so nice. All our rooms had 2 single beds pushed together with a crack in between. One of our beds was missing a leg so I had to wedge a toilet paper roll under the corner so it wouldn’t wobble. The rooms get hot and muggy when the AC is off, but be careful because in the middle of the night you will freeze if you leave the AC cranking. The bathrooms are hot and muggy because there in no central air, so you can’t stop sweating once you get out of the shower. Also, our shower walls weren’t properly sealed at the bottom, so the shower water would leak out all over the bathroom floor.

Overall the staff were very friendly and made you feel welcome, just the service and execution was super slow. We would have to make multiple phone calls and wait hours for extra bath towels to arrive. It could take lots of effort to get the pool staffs attention to get you lounge chair pads and pool towels.

We were on an “all inclusive” package which was a bit deceptive. Before, when I have been to an All Inclusive Resort, it really means all inclusive. All food, all drinks, and all activities are included. Not the case at Club Palm Bay. At the bar, there was a separate limited menu that all inclusive package people could order from. Other drinks were chargeable (and not cheap). They also had morning and afternoon tea/coffee and snacks. This usually consisted of biscuits and mini sandwiches. One afternoon they have bbq chicken wings which we were really excited about. The first plate was already empty when we arrived. We kept asking if they would bring more since it was still the beginning of a snack time. We waited an hour and more never came even though they brought several more plate of the biscuits and sandwiches. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner were all buffet style. There was a separate a la carte restaurant which wasn’t included in the ‘all inclusive’. Overall the food was slightly above average. The variety was quite plentiful with a large salad bar, bread and soup options, a live food counter, western continental dishes, Sri Lankan/Indian, vegetarian, Halal, and dessert table. Each meal usually had 1 item which stood out in quality and the rest of the food was just ok. Everything was edible, but it wasn’t anything you were going to post about online. We were also disappointed with the lack of seafood options. The pictures from trip advisor and other websites showed delicious seafood options, but none were found on the buffet. The plus side to the buffet is that there are tons of options, so even picky eaters can find something they will like. In the evenings they would have live music playing which was fun.

For those looking for great seafood, across from the hotel on the beach there is Sasha’s seafood which we visited a couple times to get our seafood fill. They also have a nice souvenir shop there which is better than the ones in the resort. Sasha’s had a 4 person seafood platter for about $50 that included lobster, shrimp, fish, salad, french fries, and other delicious fixings.

The swimming pool is definitely the best part of the resort. It’s huge with a variety of depths, a volley ball net, fountain, and shallow platforms and walkways. Our baby enjoyed playing in the pool and crawling around on the shallow walkways. There is a great amount of seating around the pool with different levels of shade. The pool felt great in the warm Sri Lankan sun. Don’t forget your sunscreen because you are very close to the equator. Some other facilities include ayurvedic spa, dirt tennis court (costs extra to play under lights at night, bummer), table tennis, small gym, chipping and putting green, small basketball court, and outdoor badminton court.

The hotel is on the beach and a lagoon. The beach was disappointing, we actually never hung out on the beach. It had blackish brown sand and was a small beach even though there was shade huts and lounge chairs. It was pretty windy with big waves of muddy brown ocean water. The beach also had street dogs and cows roaming. The lagoon in and around the resort is beautiful. The resort is actually really big and has beautiful grounds, especially the older wing. You can go on a long lovely walk and never leave the resort. There is fun wildlife like monitor lizards and lots of cool birds to watch for.

On this side of the world, you get what you pay for. We booked our tour through Make My Trip and it was about 38,000 Indian rupees ($600) per person for 5 nights “all inclusive” twin sharing including roundtrip airfare from Bangalore. Definitely a great price. Next time we go to Sri Lanka I know my wife and I will choose to stay at a nicer 5 star hotel where the service and food will be better.

In summary, Club Palm Bay is a great deal if you can have low expectations. There are some good perks which make it a fun place to go, especially in a group. The majority of people staying there were Brits, Russians, and local Sri Lankans.

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same. Some are a pretty far walk from the pool and dining area. The ones on th...

Well organized & spacious rooms, huge swimming pool, lot of sports & activities make this hotel a superb location for company & large group outings. The staff are friendly and helpful. In terms of food, the Breakfast & Lunch spreads were very good. Dinner was pretty ordinary and didn't have much of a selection. Also the room service menu was fairly priced and has some good options.

They could greatly improve the in room entertainment, as the TV only had 10 very poor quality channels. Overall we had a great time here, would recommend for anyone.

great place to relax. Good staff, always smiling. Rooms are also spacious. Food had a good range of selection and tasty too.
But the area has little attractions nearby. It is a bit far away from the main attractions of the country. But the Negombo bay area should offer some good seagoing experiences.

Room Tip: Pick a room near the pool if you can. Less walking

Great hotel with fantastic service, nothing was too much for any one. Food was great lovely curries but always something for those that do not like spicy food. The pool was huge although sometimes found it hard to get a quiet spot as there were some noisy residents as mentioned in previous comment. Lagoon view was fantastic and they happily changed our room to one on our arrival but had to wait a day, gardens are fantastic though and some rooms have equally great views across them. All in all fab value for money, it was our second trip to Sri Lanka and lived up to our expectations.
