We read mixed reviews of this hotel but decided to give it a chance and stay here anyway. Usually I always trust trip advisor, but in Changwon hotels are limited so this looked like the best option. It is terrible value for money and if you can find somewhere else to stay, do!! This place is SUCH a let down.
In summary for those who don't have much time:
Service - very poor at check in. Man who served us argued with us about hotel credit we paid for telling us we could only use it for the spa when the website had said anything was okay, food, drink etc. He spoke good english but was very rude in the way he handled the situation.
Hotel - old, worn and dirty corridors. Does not look like official photos on the hotel website.
Regular Rooms - strange design, quite modern and I liked it but it looked very old and tatty, quite small size too. Hotel was definitely not full but they didn't offer any kind of complimentary upgrade which often many premium hotels do just out of kindness.
Bed - Very big and extremely comfortable. Smooth, good quality linens. Much softer mattress than normal Korean beds.
Air conditioning - Excellent in our room but hotel was far too hot in corridors and restaurant etc.
Heard from another guest his room air con was terrible though, didn't go under 24.
Area - nothing in Changwon really. Busan is a bit far away too, although it's only 30-40mins to the outskirts, it's over an hour to main areas of Busan like the famous beaches.
Who should stay here? - Only people who have to. Those who are on business that are not spending their own money. Do NOT waste your own money on this place.
More detail for those who want it.
I don't like to write bad reviews but honestly, from arriving at front desk there were so many aspects of our stay that left a lot to be desired and did not live up to our expectations that I feel like I have to say something.
We booked a room and chose to buy hotel credit of $30 per day with our booking. The hotel website clearly stated we could use it for anything we wanted in the hotel, it stated we could have cocktails, breakfast, food, spa....anything, according to the site! We thought we would use it towards breakfast, if not, some drinks in the bar. We checked in at front desk and were told we could only use it for the spa. We showed the staff member the hotel website where it stated we could use it for food. He rudely answered that that was not the case. We explained that we felt they should honour the way it had been advertised and let us use it since we did not want to use the spa. He still said no. Then rudely he brought up the korean version of the site where he told us it said in Korean that it could not be used for food in this particular hotel. Ridiculous since we are caucasian british people and clearly would never have read the Korean!!! What ensued was about fifteen minutes of us asking politely for him to refund the additional money we had paid for the credit, a grand total of $50 (not exactly a tonne of money to a big hotel! Especially not to upset guests.) but he insisted he couldn't. We kept asking what could be done, along the lines of 'well, if it can't be refunded, could we please use it for something else, you must be able to suggest a solution if you can't refund it?' After quite some time he told us he could use that credit towards the charge of upgrading to a better room that included breakfast. The total $140 for two nights. But we would get breakfast!! OH GREEEEAAAAT, so we'll pay more to use the credit?! Terrible solution, found this so ridiculous I just laughed when he explained.
At this point I pointed out that I was sick of wasting my time at reception and found it ridiculous that a hotel was willing to piss off guests so much before they even got into their room. He said he'd ask the manager what else could be done but he was in a meeting so he'd call us in our room. We went to our room, which was nothing like the photos, and really very worn out and tired looking. (hairs in the bathroom too!) and waited for the call. We wanted to go out but waited half an hour for the call. No-one called so we decided to go out. We stopped at the reception on our way out and the man went to ask the manager then. He came back and told us in this case we could use it, because it was the hotel's mistake. Yes, that's what we told you over an hour ago!! No sorry though or any kind of gesture of kindness to show some kind of apology for wasting our time with THEIR mistake.
It was good that at least the hotel manager understood this was such a small mistake and easily fixable. But all this fuss and problem over such a small thing. Did the staff never get trained??! Never in all my time travelling have I experienced such a stupid problem made into such a big issue. It was a waste of our time and made us feel angry and displeased with the hotel from the first moment we arrived. It really tainted our stay, not the best welcome. I should add that I worked in Disney World in Guest relations for some time, I know what good customer service is and had any cast member in Disney behaved in the way this man did at check-in and spoken in the way he did (especially considering how trivial and easily fixable the issue was) they would have most probably lost their job!
Anyway, we ended up using our credit to have a late lunch in the cafe at the hotel. The food was okay, but a few of the staff members there were very clearly talking about us to one another, looking over and making remarks in a negative manner. Either someone had told them about the issue at check-in or they were just plain rude. We didn't feel very comfortable and were again annoyed by the terrible customer service at this hotel.
The rest of the stay was uneventful, very comfortable bed but that was the only good thing. Everything else distinctly average, certainly not worth the money we paid.
The hotel pool which we thought we'd take a swim in and relax by, having looked at it on the hotel site, was packed with tonnes of children and their families with inflatables taking up all the loungers. Some of the guests at the pool weren't even staying in the hotel, we saw them leaving in their car straight from the pool!
We're used to staying in high-end resorts and hotels and this place was by far the worst value we've stayed in for quite some time. Possibly the worst ever! If you can avoid staying here then do. If you have to come to Changwon for business, then the beds are at least comfortable and you can go to starbucks/paris baguette next door in the mall for breakfast and use restaurants in there for dinner. Also, there is a WA bar in the mall which you can pop to for cocktails, beer and bar food since the hotel bar is actually closed! (another thing falsely advertised on the website, that we were dissapointed to find out)!
They know nothing of good service here, some serious staff training is needed and a lot of cleaning should be done. It could be okay but currently it's a major AVOID if possible! Don't trust the website pictures, or expect anything more than 3 star at absolute best!!
