“Relaxing stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2014

I've been going to Fort Ilocandia since I was little, especially when Duty Free was still there. But it was my first time to check in at Fort Ilocandia when we stayed for 2 nights for my sister's wedding back in December 2012.

First, the staffs were very friendly and accommodating. Upon arrival and even when we checked out, they were there to help us with our baggage.

Second, The room we were checked in was very clean, spacious, orderly and elegant looking. We got a very big bed wherein there was still space to roll even with 3 occupants, it was super comfortable. We got all we need inside the room no wonder why the price is higher than the other hotels.

Third, the hotel's architecture is very classy. It is where most wedding receptions in Ilocos Norte are held. Everywhere you look at is very clean and shiny. It is actually quite hard to walk fast with your heels on since the design of the flooring is like small humps which is also a bit slippery so watch out.

Fourth, there are quite a lot of variations in food and entertainment there in comparison to other hotels in the province. Although the beach is not white sand, it is still relaxing to walk or bathe in the beach since it is clean and the sunset is charming. There are also karaokes offered in the cottages along the beach.

Our group booked through a Travel Agency for 6 rooms from Feb. 4 to 6, 2014. On Feb. 5, one of the rooms we occupied was robbed of cash (US$2,100 and Ph42,000 pesos), 2 cellular phones and a bag full of maintenance medicines. In the investigation, it was identified through digital entry records that a hotel staff entered the room. However, despite promises by the hotel management, no follow-up or update to us was provided after 3 weeks since the robbery took place, not even any apology or any act of sympathy. It's our conclusion that the robbery is not random, as it was committed with strong possibility that more than one person is involved to monitor movements of their hotel guests. Adding insult to injury, the hotel management is tolerating these criminal acts by sweeping the incident under the rug. We have followed-up twice with the Fort Ilocandia Manila Headquarter on the results of their investigation - but no reply was ever returned to us. Therefore, please be forewarned not to stay at Fort Ilocandia, unless you want to try your luck or you have lots of money to burn.

We were with three other couples and we stayed for two nights at this hotel. A beautiful setting outside of the city of Laoag. Many acres and many things to do, although I cannot rate the recreational opportunities because we were there only for the overnight accommodations. Clean, comfortable rooms. Friendly staff. During our stay, the bar/grill was the only dining option for the evening meal. A good menu and good service. The morning breakfast buffet was offered in a large dining room. A very fine buffet with good food choices and a good setting. Wait staff were exceptional at the breakfast buffet. All-in-all, we had a good stay at this hotel while we enjoyed our planned tour of the cities of Laoag and Vigan.

This Resort and Casino is the only 5 Star Resort in the Northern Philippines and fronts a 2 kilometre long beach. The sand is not white but an unattractive dark coloured sand. The resort is 10 mins from airport and is a short drive from the City Centre of Laoag .Its not really walkable distance. We did not stay at this resort but visited during a tour of the area and was very curious to see this Marcos legacy.

The architecture of the hotel is in Spanish Colonial style and finished off in red bricks. I found the resorts lobby very dark and without much natural light and slightly depressing. Overall a lovely and well presented resort with manicured gardens.

The place is not cheap as it is the only upmarket resort in the area therefore choices are somewhat limited.

Fort Ilocandia is absolutely beautiful. If you find yourself in north Philippines, this should be your destination. Impeccably clean. Amazing gardens. Nice views. Activities from golf to Archery. A pristine beach.

Its historic, with a wide range of visitors from Breznev and Nixon to Castro and Marcos (Ferdinand and Imelda). The staff is warm and helpful. Plenty to do without leaving the premises. Courtesy shuttles to the airport is a part of the experience as well.

Rooms are clean... the beds a bit hard, but to find fault would be nit-picking. Overall, this hotel is awesome.

Room Tip: Not a bad room in the house but try to get one facing the beach

What a beautiful and serene location. Fort Ilocandia is located on 77 hectares of land. We enjoyed a quiet stroll around the grounds and down the beach. We walked all the way to the sand dunes- a good mile or more. It was so beautiful. The sunset from the beach was amazing. The food wasn't anything to write home about- except the mashed potatoes and watermelon shake. The beds were so very comfortable. The rooms were clean, the air con worked well and the shower was super strong. Would recommend this place.
