Stayed at Vansana in mid-Dec 2008 for 300,000 kip / night for 1 person, 400,000 for two. Located a 15-20 minute walk from the main intersection in town, thus walking to/from town for dinner is not especially convenient, though the hotel offers a free shuttle to town. The room is large, with a large desk and chair, fridge, TV (CNN, 2 movie channels), a sitting chair, sufficient cupboard and shelf space. The bathroom has a tub and shower with ample hot water, though the pressure is weak. Soap, shampoo, and 2 bottles of water are provided each day. No AC or heat, so in December in the evenings it is damp and cool in the room. They provide plenty of blankets, so you are warm while sleeping on the hard bed. Buffet breakfast is minimal (bacon, eggs, baguettes, bottled jam, soup) but the coffee is good. Not an extensive selection of American/European food for dinner, but prices are ridiculously cheap. All rooms have a balcony with 2 chairs and a table. Request a room with a view of the Valley as opposed to of the town. This 38-room hotel seems to be popular with the tour bus crowd. They have a business centre with one computer and extra Ethernet cables allowing you to connect your PC. They charge 500 kip per minute (200 kip in town, but the 2 “cafés” in town were not working during my stay). They accept CC (at a 3.5% commission) and you are billed in US dollars but they give terrible exchange rates (when the exchange rate was 8,495 kip per dollar they gave 7,729 kip per dollar). In other words, it is best to pay in cash.
If you are only here to see the “Jars”, it’s as good as any place to stay, though if you want to be in town, where absolutely nothing happens, there are other options.
