“A strange place from communist times”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012

I did not book this hotel in advance and got a room directly on the spot. The hotel appeared to be pretty booked, so the executive room was the only room available. A bit over price, but ok. Breakfast & wifi included. The room was pretty spacious, but the furniture was almost unusable. The bed was comfy however. The bathroom had a tub and a shower. The hot water was ok. Still some details reminded me of the communist era.
The staff acted a bit strange and I always felt, that the hotel was not fitting to the city at all. The breakfast was standard. Overall, the place cannot really be recommended and does not blend with the vibe and the history of the area.

We had two nights here in june12 it wasnt the worst but for 100,000 kip you get what you pay for.The room was dirty with huge gaps under the door but it did have hot water. The staff were friendly and helpful, organising our tour and even giving us a taster of the local hooch "laos laos".Its an ok place for 1/2 nights but in phonsavan you wont need to stay longer

We had a nice clean room, with a comfortable bed, a decent bathroom with hot water and professional people in reception. Given what we saw of Phonsavan accomodation, this place is def the best and rooms started at 60000 without breakfast (we are vegetarians). We paid 80000 for a slightly bigger room

Room Tip: Stay away from Kongkeo as the owner and staff attacked me and my girlfriend

It's ok, but I can't say any better - roll on Phonesavanh becoming more popular as a tourist destination so there is more competition. I was booked into here by a tour agent for two nights - I doubt I'd have chosen it for myself. I would expect that it is very inexpensive place to stay!

The bed was comfortable enough, the bedroom was reasonably clean, the lights worked some of the time and the tv had a few English-speaking channels. The bathroom wasn't very clean or well fitted. There was a leak from a pipe, probably from the room above, so I got a small shower while sitting on the loo :-( (I didn't report it to them as the staining down the bathroom wall appeared to be long standing - but in case they read this...room 104!!!).

Breakfast was: either scrambled or fried eggs with a baguette, plus a cup of tea and a cup of coffee. Tea was honey tea, coffee had to be taken black or with sweet condensed milk. One day I got butter & jam too!

The place had rooms for 100,000 kip but we bargained and got him down to 80,000 but then that didn't include breakfast which we were fine with. The place was one of the cleanist I've stayed in since travelling in South East Asia and I've stayed in loads of GH's now. I think the best part was the hot shower! You get 2 free waterbottles in the room which is a plus for me. The staff were super sweet and helped arrange a private tour of the plain of jars for us. Would definitely stay here again if I go back but would ask for a different room - I was woken up by a rooster at 5am! but stuff like that's bound to happen;)

Stayed here for 3 nights while visiting the Plain of Jars and the area surrounding Phonsavan. Staff were very friendly and spoke reasonable English. Price included a basic but filling breakfast of eggs, toast, tea and coffee. We stayed on the second floor. The room was clean and was cleaned daily. The bed was comfortable. The room was quite small but this wasn't a problem for us as we spent all day out exploring. There was no wifi in the guesthouse and only one very slow computer in the office that guests were welcome to use. Pretty slow so you wouldn't do more than check emails. Staff were very helpful when it came to arranging tours and onward transport and not in the least pushy.

Phonsavan has many Guest Houses, most of them located along the main street..
Chose White Orchid based on reviews and the fact that they had their own pick up van at the Van station where we stopped after the trip from Vang Vieng.
They have free pick up if you advise them before hand of your arrival.
The have rooms are ranging in price for abt. 60,000 kip to 200,000. The cheapest category do not have breakfast included.
The room was ok , clean with hot water ,a western toilet and TV. No aircon , but at 1200 meter elevation in Laos in February a heater is more of what you may need.
A good breakfast with coffe, tea, eggs, bread and fruit was served in a room downstairs.
The same room is also used as a briefing room for those booking a trip to the plain of Jars with the hotel.
Staff speak english quite well and you can order tours and tickets through them , but you should also look at other travel agents close by before deciding.
There was a black out for a short while in the evening but none of the hotels fault.
A ok hotel to stay at in Phonsavan.
