“From Novice to The Loop in Less Than a Day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2012

Thoroughly recommended for beginners or experienced riders -
Tom can give you a trip to suit your experience.

He has a lifetime of experience of bikes and biking, maintains his own bikes (maintenance of most hire-bikes in Laos is generally poor to non-existent) and will only do escorted tours.

I had never ridden a geared motorcycle.

Luckily Tom was free all day when I wandered into his shop having seen a poster in a cafe that mentioned tuition.

He gave me some practical instruction, being careful to make sure I "got" everything I was doing to control the bike and always knowing just how far to let me take control at each stage.

Then we did the Vang Vieng "Loop" which is a great beginner ride.
Tom also knows some WOW! mountain trails if you are an experienced biker. He can also take you pillion if that suits you better.

Book this guy!

“Uncle Tom, taking you back to 10 years old, simply happy!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

We took a full day tour yesterday, it was abusolutely fantastic! In the morning, Uncle Tom took us to go inside these amazing mountains where most tourists can't find out, you can enjoy the enduro riding while sightseeing the great view around you. We went to several really remote villages in the afternoon, there Uncle Tom revealed the true life in Lao, peaceful, simple, and happy. We also met lots of cute kids who are very shy but curious to us. Uncle Tom surely has a good relationship with them, they all welcomed us very well.

Uncle Tom is a very funny man, on the other side, he takes his responsibilities seriously, you will have a great experience without any worries(He worked as an engineer in UK).

Here are tips about the tour:
1. Most of the roads are quite dusty, you may like to go with your masks.
2. The sunshine could be extremely strong, so remember to bring your sunshades, and sun cream.
3. The kids you may see during the tour are quite lovely, but they are really poor, if you can bring some snacks/candies to them, both will be happy.

“Best trip ive done yet!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

Inquired about this after seeing it on tripadvisor. Having only ever rode a scooter on a road i was going into this a complete novice of motorcycling. However thanks to Toms half an hour help and training i was ready to go. Having never been motorbike riding I wasnt sure what to expect but I was competely blown away by how much fun it is to riding and completely different to being on a scooter. On top of this the scenery is absolutely phenomenal. Vang Vieng has so much breath taking landscapes it was a wonder why there werent more tours like this one. The loop we went on included passing through 5 villages to which we stopped at and Tom explained how the local people live/work. We also rode for 45 minutes up a small mountain and through a valley to reach a truely breath-taking view poin where you could see 20/30 km in every direction. We really got to know Tom and he is a very funny guy (double of Tom Jones) who has a real passion for motorcycling but also a great understanding of local people and landscapes and this is what makes this tour the best I have personally experienced. This is the best tour I have done in SE asia and at 25 dollars for 4-5 hours is a snip - recommend it to anyone!

One little tip is that Toms shop is not in the centre of Vang Vieng it is a 5 minute walk over the river/toll bridge and next to Maylynn guesthouse.

“helped by uncle Tom”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2012

Bikers usually help bikers but uncle Tom goes the extra mile, not only does he help people have a great dirt bike experience on his bikes but any passing adventure bikers can stop in at his workshop get a friendly welcome and a helping hand with their bikes. If you don’t need a hand but just a nice clean flat out of the sun place to work on your bikes themselves Toms place is ideal. Even if you don’t need Toms help just stop by to shoot the breeze with a fellow bike enthusiast and while you are there stay at the MayLyn a little piece of paradise in Vang Vieng

“Another trip out with Tom, "Chuor"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

After visiting Vang Vieng for a short time with its dramatic scenery, i thought as a keen motorcycle enthusiast what a perfect way to see the real Vang Vieng sites. I had only ridden a motorcycle a few times previously but with some excellent tuition we were away. The group of riders was small making it a nice way of meeting others with similar interests on my travels. We had an extensive tour of Vang Vieng covering terrain that would only be suitable to cover on a good quality dirt bike which tom provides. The sites seen are breath taking and are rarely seen by tourists. Tom was a fantastic host with a lot of knowledge of the sites providing another angle to what was seen. All in all i would highly recommend it to anyone. Sanchez
