“Decent rooms but there are better places in town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

This place was fine. The room was big and clean (we were staying on the first floor). The bathroom was clean and the hot water worked. Since we were on the first floor, we didn't have much of a view, but we did face the river.

The owners wanted 120,000-150,000 kip for the room but we talked them down to 100,000 kip.

The guesthouse is a short walk from the main drag, which means its quiet at night.

We only stayed 1 night. Would have stayed longer but there was no wifi in the rooms, only in the lobby. Also, we found a better hotel, with good views and wifi that was cheaper.

While my girlfriend was showering in the room the sink fell off the wall and shattered cutting her hand. We promptly told the husband and wife that owned the place about it and she told us she was going to charge us. We got the local police involved (who was wearing a BeerLao tank top) and, after quite a bit of friendly conversation and mild laughter in Laotian between the owner and the police, we were again instructed by the police that we had to pay since we didn't adequately check the sturdiness of the sink when we agreed to the room. If my girlfriend was standing under the sink when it fell it would have shattered both her feet.

We were friendly about approaching the situation since no one was seriously hurt and shocked when the woman who owned the place immediately accused us of deliberately breaking the sink. Then she got upset about the small amount of blood on the towel from my girlfriend's lacerated hand! This is a terrible way to conduct business and customer service and anyone traveling to Vang Vieng should look to the many other nice, clean and cheap guesthouses and hotels in town.

Room Tip: Don't stay here, dishonest owners with poorly constructed rooms. Check everything in room when y...

Although a bit soulless, this guesthouse was clean, friendly, reasonably priced and offered a perfectly enjoyable stay in the heart of town. It's located on a rather quiet street, so despite Vang Vieng's notoriety as a party town, you might even get a good night's sleep.

I really loved the size of the rooms and the cleanliness of the hallways and rooms and the fridge is stacked full of beer Lao. It is close enough to town to eat and drink.

We stayed in AeKham when it first opened in 2010. For 120,000 we had a large room at the back overlooking the Thavonsouk resort and river with AC, cable etc. The room was clean and bright and was both cheaper and bigger than similar guesthouses I've tried in VV.
The GH is a few minutes walk from the main town area so is quiet at night - a good option.

Riverside location on road lined with hotels of varying quality. the Aekham newer, cleaner than similar hostelry in same price range. Family-owned and operated. They'll rent you a motorbike from on-site at fair rate. Room clean, good-ventiliation, shutters to block light. Access via exterior stairs, unsupervised at night for guest to visit undetected. Good open-air restaurant next door.
