“Nice hotel, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

Nice clean hotel, good aircon and spacious bathroom. Most comfortable beds have had for the past 9weeks with proper duvet and nice pillows! Good location for centre of town, staff speak English very well and are keen to help you out. Good variety of breakfast choices and eager to please. Only hesitation on the first night (a Saturday) was the intrusive karaoke coming from nxt door hotel until 1am! I was so tired slept anyway but it kept my friend awake. Wasn't anymore karaoke for rest of the stray however, likely just a weekend treat! Nice hotel reasonable price. Would happily stay here again as seems more intimate and friendly than some places we have stayed where we have barely seen a smile from some staff! Ther is possibility of using swimming pool at sister hotel but I didn't go myself

At my return to the "unholy city" i was planning to stay again at the Ban Sabai Bungalow operation, as it suited me well the last time (and because it had a pool). As they were booked out, i had to look for an alternative and decided to try out the Inthira hotel, as it is a sister hotel of Ban Sabai. Well, i choose it because i thought i would get the same positives that i liked Ban Sabai for, plus some better rooms and of course because i could use the pool of Ban Sabai, as this is part of their sister hotel exchange. In the end it turned out that the Inthira is somehow very different to Ban Sabai and not always in a good way. I will try to explain this further...

Location: The hotel is located on the main road of the town, quite central, but not directly on the action. This means the bar scene won't keep you up all night, but the rest of the town will. Compared to Ban Sabai i found this place really noisy (noise came from town and consisted of cars and construction noise). This means that you should be prepared to wake up early. Apart from that, the location is quite okay. Not to far away from everything, but still far enough from all the noisy bars.

Hotel:

The hotel is directly on the street, and consists of an open restaurant, which opens to the street (try not to sit near the water, as it smelled a bit foul) and doubles also as the reception area. The rooms are tucked away behind, which doesn't make them immune against the noise, but well. It's not a big hotel and it's even a bit cramped together. But what i found really interesting was, that as soon you leave the restaurant / reception are, the place feels almost deserted. I didn't meet any of the staff members behind this area. Well, i guess facebook is too addictive ;=)

The hotel doesn't have a pool, but you can use the (small) pool of Ban Sabai bungalows, which is 5 minutes aways (by foot).

Rooms:

The following applies to the superior rooms. I heard that the standard rooms are far below the superior rooms, quality wise (said people who had seen both). The rooms are not overly big, but not too cramped either, very clean and in general nice to look at. The rooms have a safe, an old-school TV, some comfortable beds, icy air con (yeah) and even a balcony. Sadly, the view from the balcony was NIL, as they have built another hotel next to the Inthira, which means that you can watch some constructions workers, doing their work or later, you might be able to chat with the people of the other hotel, when they step out of their room. This makes the balcony a bit useless.

The bathroom was roomy and clean too (as the rest of the room), but it had some serious problems with water pressure in the shower and also with the water temperature. The lukewarm water dripped more or less out of the shower head, but never was there any real pressure.

Service:

Ouch...seldom i have met staff that seemed so disinterested in me and my being than here. I will not go further into detail, as i cannot. I had virtually no interaction with the staff members, as i never had the feeling that somebody would like to engage with me any further than he had too. I don't even recall any smiles or nice words. And i'm not somebody who runs around in bad mood. Usually i approach people in a very friendly way and expect the same from the other side (remember who has to serve whom ?). Not here...well, maybe they all had a bad day, but i guess it's just their mentality. I found the staff at Ban Sabai very cheerful and friendly. Here i had the feeling that guests were only something that needed to be taken care of, but not more.

Breakfast:

Same as at Ban Sabai. I found the quantity of the meal a bit low and also the quality just okay. I don't understand this, as their food itself is really good. And maybe you could do some variations on the breakfast. The continental breakfast for the third time with the same jam is a bit boring.

Verdict:

I expected a cheerful operation like Ban Sabai with nicer rooms. Well, they had nicer rooms, but the rest was letdown. The hotel feels somehow deserted apart from the reception are. Staff seems to be more interested in Skype and Facebook, than in guests and in general it just feels average, but not really outstanding. I guess if you put the price of the rooms into consideration it gets a bit better, but in total i was not impressed. It left me with a dull feeling, like Vang Vieng town did.

Fantastic rooms and clean. The reastuarnt connected to the hotel is fantastic and very clean. Breakfast every morning was great. Recomend the banana smoothie! Staff can speak very good english which makes it easier!

Room Tip: Down stairs rooms are better as they are protected from sun by trees, better for a sleep in.

I stayed at this hotel in October it is one of the loveliest hotels in the area with perfect location. The hotel manager is lovely and helped us find places and understand the Laos culture. We recieved a complimentary drink they took our backpacks to the room which was lovely and clean!! Wifi is good and the breakfast is brilliant as its cooked freshed and you get to choose what you want. There are tourism books to read an find out what to do and all the staff are helpful and friendly! There is also a pool you can use at the sister hotel 5 mins away it is small but has lovely views of the mountains and river and is perfect for a quick dip to cool down

Stayed for 2 nights in superior room. Standard double was much darker and on ground floor. Clean, large room with comfortable bed. Only problem was large gap around doors onto balcony allowing mozzies to get in and makes the aircon not as efficient. Mosquito net in room helps. Also cockerels in the morning at 2, 3, 5 and 6 am do get a bit annoying but not hotels fault. Bring ear plugs. Breakfast average.

We stayed here for 3 nights as we got a good discounted rate by booking online. The room was clean (althugh a very pungent damp smell was present throughout our stay), with a/c, cable TV and a good comfortable bed. The breakfast and service provided by the staff were really good too. However, the room should have been $25/night which given what else is available in the area seems somewhat overpriced. We stayed 5 minutes further down the road on our 4th night and got exactly the same facilities and service (in fact, we had a bigger room which smelt much fresher!) for $15/night. Probably worth going to their sister hotel down the road which offers a swimming pool and much nicer rooms for only a bit more money.

Dear Emily,

Thank you for your feedback. I am glad you appreciated our rooms, breakfast and the service offered. I will look into the bad smell your experienced and i wished you had told me as i would have offered you to move to another room.
As for the price, i am surprised that you found us expensive. Most of our guests tell us that we are a very good value for money hotel and we are proud of that. We only use quality products in our rooms and restaurants, pay fair wages to all our staff. As you mention our second hotel Ban Sabai, you will be happy to know that all the guests of Inthira are welcome to use the swimming pool of Ban Sabai.
I wish you safe travels and hope to see you again in Vang Vieng.

We stayed here for 3 nights and really enjoyed it.
The staff was really helpfull and the manager his english was also good.
We had an superior room on the second floor and we had no complaints about it.
Just next to it they are building a new hotel and started to make noise around 0800 but this had nothing to do with Inthira.
We used 2 times the pool from the sister hotel down the river.
Breakfast was good at the hotel, you get a small card to pick your breakfast.
