“Appalling food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2012

Our reviews were not published on our return last year??
Being the only two diners in the restaurant,we were presented with a congealed rice starter, deep fried chicken breast with mushy veg,and a plate of fruit.
Having toured Morocco for the past 5 years, wining and dining,we were really disappointed being offered this this from a 4* hotel.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2009

I was in Tiznit for business, and after the beauty of the Moroccan mountains and coast wasn't that impressed with the town itself. The Hotel Idou, however, is a nice break. The lobby is gorgeous and makes the hotel look more upscale than it actually is -- Once you get upstairs to the rooms the hallways are rather sparse and unadorned.

The room was large, with a large double bed and small single bed. There was a small balcony that opened onto the main street, television with satellite, and the bathroom had a deep tub and great shower with excellent water pressure and hot water. The hotel staff, including the restaurant staff, were always very friendly. We ate several good meals in the restaurant and ordered room service twice. Breakfast is a nice spread including several kinds of bread and pastries, fresh orange juice and coffee.

My complaints -- The open design means that when there's a crowd in the lobby, the sound carries all of the way up to the rooms. The bar and lobby were also very smoky at times.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2007

Stayed two nights in January 2007. Hotel still seems brand new (it was opened by the King a few years ago) so the rooms and corridors are a little bit like a chain hotel, but beautifully spacious, impeccably clean, comfortable, with splendid marbled bathrooms and gallons of hot water. It was alas too cold to use the lovely swimming pool terrace - in a year or so when the trees have grown this area will be idyllic. Fabulous, enormous brass filigree chandelier in the lobby which the desk clerk switched on for us. It is magnificent - and illuminates the beautiful and very grand hand-painted stairwell. All very stylish in traditional Moroccan colours and patterns. Lovely friendly staff and perfectly respectable restaurant.
If you want to be sure of mod cons this is the place. We were almost the only guests and we were made genuinely welcome without pressure. We left feeling good, and also ready for humbler, older hotels in the desert and mountains. I recommend this hotel. We enjoyed it.

  • Liked — spaciousness and friendliness and a little hint of modern grandeur
  • Disliked — Needs to mellow a little - it's all a bit brand new
